“OMG what did I just read? This book… WOW!! It’s been years since I read a book straight through. Yes, seven hours I was glued to the pages of this book. A yo-yo of emotions that left me breathless with every scene. Black Swan Affair is a must read!!” ~ Nashoda Rose, NYT and USA Today Bestselling AuthorI’ve loved him as long as I can remember. The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair … brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.
Killian Shepard.
Shep.
We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.
He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.
He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.
So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.
I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.
Now we’re one big happy fcking family.

My review from October 2016:
Holy hell. This book was fantastic!
I don’t even know where to begin with this book. I guess I’ll start by saying it was amazing. Everything about it. Beyond amazing, really. The writing…phenomenal. The characters…strong, and so damn lovable (except for that one – who was so easy to hate). And the story…my gawd, the story. Intense, heart-stomping, packed FULL of emotion. My heart was reeling for days after reading it.
My heart was put through the wringer with this one. One minute I was pissed…the next, my heart was all aflutter with love. Then, next thing you know, I’m cussin’ like a sailor (again) and wanting to throw my kindle. I felt like my heart was a tennis ball, being smacked around…back and forth, not sure what I should be feeling. The passion in this book was intoxicating. I craved every single page, eager to read every last word.
The tangled webs that were weaved… the lies that were told, the secrets that were kept – it’s no wonder my heart felt as if it was being squeezed the entire time while reading this. At first, I wasn’t sure what to think when I finished – I wasn’t sure if it was the ending I wanted. Then after much processing, after looking back at some of the key moments in the story, I realized it was the perfect ending.
This was my first book by this author and I cannot wait to read more of her work!!!
This author tore my heart in two and left me gasping and squirming in equal measure. This story gripped me so intensely, I couldn’t move because I needed to finish. From start to finish, I was on edge, I was tearing up, and was left speechless at the ending. KL Kreig never fails to leave me in awe!
This was my first book by K.L. Kreig and it won’t be my last. The story is a love triangle like no other I have read, Maverick is in love with two brothers only her love for them couldn’t be more different. She loves Kale as a best friend and Killian as a lover. The story is told from past to present and mostly in Maverick’s pov. I was kept guessing till the very end. The story had many secrets, betrayals, love, forgiveness, and drama. I absolutely loved this book and gave it a five star rating.
This book twists & turns your emotions as you read each chapter, changing from the past to the present & eventually meeting with the final twist. I highly recommend it
Just… wow. WOW. I am so blown away by this book, let me tell you. I’m seriously just sitting here, completely shell shocked by this book… in the very best way.
I absolutely inhaled this book. I both devoured each word just as I dreaded them in the same breath. I was so fully immersed, so fully hooked in that I didn’t come up for air once I started reading. Maverick, Killian, and Kael completely consumed me.
This is, single handedly, one of the best love triangle books I have ever read. Often times with triangles, one side is clearly the better choice. But not here. My love for both men cycled viciously in my heart.
There is so much emotion packed into these pages, so much angst and heartbreak and turmoil. Your heart will be splintering over and over again. Everything about this book is perfect, beginning to end.
Amazing, loved it. Could hardly put it down, and when I did I was thinking about it obsessively. Superb writing, tons of angst and emotional complexity, and the author had me switching my mind constantly over what was going on and with which guy. Loved how it turned out, as I was rooting for that one all along! What a gem of a new author discovery for me. *Runs to KU to check out more of her work.*
I am NOT a fan of switching between current and previous times, I seriously have a headache from trying to keep up. I will say it was a good read, and the heartbreak is a tear jerker right up to end. True love wins out.
This was so good! One of my fave tropes is a love triangle, but it has to be really well-told and this was! I had never read anything by this author before and I was pleasantly surprised.
The story itself was really intricate, I loved how it switched back and forth between the present and Maverick’s wedding day (which was a year prior), and everything that happened during that year in between. The detail was great and you just knew there had to be more to the story. When the answers are finally provided, it was so satisfying!
I really felt for Maverick, but also for Killian and Kael. You could really fell the love and respect each of the guys had for her. It’s one of the best “love triangle” stories I’ve read. Highly recommended!
Loved this story!

Love Triangle Romance | Friends to Lovers
Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me on so many levels and I’m having a hard time processing it. First and foremost, I actually LIKE books with love triangles . Not all the time, but every once in a while, the angst and emotional overload from such a book is good for me. Not all romances are easy in real life and they shouldn’t HAVE to be in all books either. That being said, the love triangle is NOT the problem with this book. I think it’s the outlandish plot, the limited emotional connection and between ALL the characters, and the pointless “twist” in the end. Now, I don’t want my review of this book to come off as rude and I mean no disrespect to the author or other readers but I DO want a place to write my own thoughts as it helps me as a reader and hopefully others. So here goes…
Possible SPOILERS ahead. Read at your own risk!!
As I mentioned, this book is a love triangle. The heroine of the book (Maverick) is in love with her husbands BROTHER. All three of them have been friends since they were younger and both brothers have deep feelings for her, but she has always felt the pull towards Killian (the brother). So why does she end up MARRYING his brother, Kael? For convoluted and strange reasons…
Killian ends up marrying Maverick’s sister, so in order to HURT him back she marries his brother. But she still has feelings for Killian despite him now being her brother in law and has a hard time connecting on an emotional level with her husband, Kael. Ugh.. But as she gets to know her husband, she starts to SLOWLY fall for him. In the end, there is a big secret that both brothers have been keeping from her and from there she needs to decide which man she actually wants. Who does she choose? You would have to read it to find out. I personally LOVE who she chose FYI.
Now on to the secret- what A CROCK. It was extremely dramatic and unnecessary. When it was revealed I rolled my eyes because I just… I couldn’t. This “secret” could have been handled in BETTER ways and no one would have got hurt. I don’t want to say what it is though and if you NEED to know feel free to message me. I don’t want to spoil it here.
Now on to the TWIST. Another unnecessary and silly piece to add to an already dramatic plot. It’s mentioned fleetingly throughout the book (maybe 2 or 3 times) and then were HIT with it all at once. It may not have come out of nowhere, but it felt like it did. It honestly just didn’t vibe with me.
You may now be wondering if there was anything I did like about the book and there was. I liked Maverick and the emotional pain she was going through. It was easy to identify through the writing and I could feel it right along with her. I also liked who she ultimately chose in the end. Had she chosen the other I would have thrown my iPad across the room!
In the end, would I recommend this book? Um… I think readers should read other reviews along with mine in order to determine if the book would be a right fit for them. I’m clearly in the minority and don’t want people to NOT read it because of it so I recommend doing your research!
Loved this book, in fact have read it twice and will probably repeat sometime in the future. Will not say much about plot because you just need to pick up the book and have a good read. Just take my word for it.
A competently written story that is just too angsty for me.
This book!!! I read it in one sitting I couldn’t put it down Just love it
OMG. I just finished this book. Twisted but awesome writing. Great story. Kept you guessing.
I just couldn’t like these characters. Except for Kael, who is a wonderful guy who gets dumped on by his wife through most of the story. I was just done. I couldn’t take it anymore.
I thought it was great.
‘The Black Swan Affair’ is my all-time favorite love triangle. I’ve reread ‘The Black Swan Affair’ countless times, and still can’t get enough of these characters. The undecided decisions and secrets keep The Black Swan Affair an interesting read. In fact, it’s a must-read.
Awesome book. My first book and will be reading again.
I read this book forever ago, but I remember how much I loved it and could not put it down until it was finished.
Brothers wanting the same girl? YES PLEASE!
Love triangle? SIGN ME UP!
Impending heartbreak? BRING IT ON!
Angst & Drama? UMM… YES!
Combustible s*x scenes? GIVE IT TO ME!
This was my first novel by K.L.Kreig and what a first novel it was! I was hooked, line and sinker right away and barely came up for air while reading. I even listened to the audio on my drive into work! I cannot believe it took me this long to read it! I’m utterly floored by HOW MUCH I was consumed by it and HOW MUCH I loved it!
BSA was a completely unique love triangle that had me torn on several occasions and yet falling hard for one character at the same time! This story was definitely a HEARTWRENCHER from page one to the very end! It pulled at my heart with every chapter and every encounter between Maverick (aka Swan), Kael, and Killian. I didn’t know quite where my heart resided, until nearly the end of the book. #TeamKael or #TeamKillian. Both were seemingly perfect for Maverick, but only ONE held her heart. ONE was ALWAYS there for her. ONE was her forever.
K.L.Kreig chose to do chapters that were both past and present and also dual POV’s (I’m not saying who), which I LOVED! These 3 characters grew up together, so with the back and forth chapters, we were able to see how their relationships developed over the years and the depths of love they had for each other. Also, with the back and forth, the reader is left wondering WHO the heroine will end up with, which adds to the angst in the storyline. In the present chapters, K.L.Kreig keeps things vague enough that the reader STILL doesn’t know WHO Maverick ends up with. I LOVED that mystery! It keeps the intrigue there.
This was a story of lies, deceit and betrayal. A story about following your heart. Opening your eyes to what is already right in front of you. And accepting that what you thought was going to be your HEA, might not be your forever after all. I couldn’t be happier with how things worked out!
I definitely highly recommend! This is definitely worthy of a reread! Now I just need a HEA for the one that didn’t get chosen M+K
