Speechless! What a phenomenal Journey.
I have read and loved all the Feathers and Fire books. Each book progressively was more addictive than the last. This book was a masterpiece of the written word. Master wordsmith Shayne Silvers wove a story that I am still reeling over. He not only creates a story but creates the colors of emotion and wraps you up in the truly mind blowing moments in that story! Bravo, Master Silvers! Bravo!
This book started out a little slow but gets five stars for the mind-boggling ending.
Callie Penrose has just come through the harrowing adventure of the Doors where she has been learning some of life’s secrets and wound up at Solomon’s Temple, the place she was trying to get to all along. She is just relaxing with Solomon and Richard (aka Last Breath) and Cain and planning to find answers to some of the questions that brought her on this journey to begin with when she is informed that she has been missing from Kansas City for a whole year.
When she returns to check on things, she discovers that her old mentor, Roland, has gone off the deep end in her absence and is running a massive gang of vampires and werewolves who seem to be intent on murdering and abusing people.
To make matters worse, Callie suddenly seems to have the appearance of a demon. When she meets people who were formerly her friends, they start right in attacking her, and it is only with great difficulty (if at all) that she can convince them that it is really her.
Fortunately, Callie makes a lot of new friends and allies. But, as so often happens in the Templeverse, nothing is as it seems at first, and it turns out that the big ritual that Roland is planning is small potatoes compared to the danger that is coming for everybody.
Will Callie’s new friends and new powers be enough? Will she be able to save Roland? Or to kill him? Or even to save herself?
Another masterpiece, excellent read!
You can never go home again?
But this is only because home is not what it used to be. Life is going directions now for Callie, and not all of them good. After being gone for a year the world is going to hell, possibly? Maybe most likely. This installment is showing some of the change to come, definitely a must read!
The author is a master at drawing you into his world. This book answers a lot of the questions from the previous books, but leaves you with a whole new set of questions. There is a rollercoaster of emotions you go thru, but it is so worth it, even the tears.
Oh. My. Dear. Lord. How does Shayne Silvers come up with this stuff. It’s so incredibly complicated that it makes Game of Thrones look like child’s play. Yet somehow Black Sheep: Feathers and Fire Book 6 is still easy to follow along. It’s so dark yet so fun. It’s urban fantasy devil & demons unreality but so relatable and genuine. This is one talented author and one incredibly cool and fun book. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
An Outstanding Weave of Revelations, Mysteries, & Literary/Cultural References…
The first five books in this series each unveiled a few secrets about Callie’s backstory per novel. This was a whirlwind of revelations that served to answer so many questions. I put the book down, more than once, just to absorb the ramifications of what the author was sewing together.
In spite of these details, Shayne Silvers knitted a litany of possibilities and ‘what ifs’ into this mystic masterpiece. It had me begging for more. On top of that, the book was massively laden with Easter Eggs that brought laughter, gasps, head-slaps, awe, and absolute delight.
This sixth book opened a world of possibilities that will resound across all of Shayne’s book series for YEARS. It was an impressive quilt of supernatural pantheons, mystic creatures, my favorite poetry, my favorite comics, and so much more. I only wish every book wrapped me in such an excellent blanket of literary entertainment.
A book this kickass deserves its own soundtrack!
Callie Penrose is back to mete out justice in Black Sheep, Book 6 in Shayne Silver’s Feathers and Fire series.
Callie returns after a year to Kansas City and finds that all is decidedly NOT well back home! The streets are rife with tension and the possibility of violence exists at every turn. To her confusion, Roland, the same man who’s been a kind of father to her, is apparently responsible for the depravity…
But he’s not that man anymore. He’s letting monsters roam the streets to do unspeakable things. Unacceptable things.
To make matters worse, Callie has a different homecoming than she expects because no one recognizes her. She suddenly looks and smells like a black-haired demon! “Her kind” definitely aren’t welcome in town by any faction.
Callie’s heavenly ties also prevent her from trying to talk sense into Roland. There’s a barrier around her church that only those expressly permitted by Roland may pass, and he’s isolated himself inside. He’s erected a second barrier around the city perimeter to keep meddlers out while essentially keeping everyone else hostage, too.
Without being able to turn to her allies in Kansas City, and without being able to leave for help, Callie is forced to grasp at whatever straws she can find. Because Roland, or at least the person he used to be, would want her to.
The honorable thing to do is the only choice to make. It’s time to pit student against teacher. Callie is ready and willing to end it. Not to the pain, but likely to the death…
Callie has matured and found her purpose, her sense of belonging in the world. Enter this true no holds barred, hilarious-as-it-is-violent story, where we’re gifted with many long-awaited and very satisfying answers. What we’re left with definitely raises some even bigger questions that I can’t wait to explore in Book 7!
Black Sheep is outstanding!! Shayne Silvers never fails to take you on an adventure you didn’t even KNOW you wanted to go on. Gods, Werebears, Vampires, the Fae, the gang is all here. Callie has been gone a year, and when she gets back, her city is in trouble. Come along and see how she kicks ass and takes names. The Templeverse just gets better and better. Read it, you will not be disappointed.
Callie is back in all of her glory, but not all is well in KC. After a one year quest, everything is darker, more dangerous, and nobody acts according to their character. The unfolding of all the layers within is expertly done, granting hints and peeks throughout, leading to the big reveal. And the journey unveils more about Callie, past and present, answering questions only glimpsed previously, all while throwing down beautiful action and humor. Expertly crafted, outstanding story.
The Templeverse has always been a great source of entertainment, comfort, and escapism for me. Black Sheep follows this path! Thank God this has come out in this day and age because this is stand outside of Barnes and Noble for hours in the middle of the night cos playing Carl good!
Definitely worth reading twice… at least!!! Callie returns to Kansas City ready to kill her mentor. Gods kneel to her. Battles rage. Her Godfather takes her on a trip. Leads wonderfully into GODLESS. Can’t wait.
Wow I mean it’s hard to put into words the gamit of emotions that I felt while reading this chapter of Callie’s story. Now if you are new to the Templeverse please stop her go back and start at Obsidian Son otherwise this book will not make near as much sense. Its definitely the build up of the entire Templeverse saga that makes these books so brilliant and hard to put down. I will say make sure that you don’t have any major obligations for a good chunk off time because you are going to want uninterrupted reading for this one.
There isn’t anything else I can say except buy all his books and read them in order.
They are absolutely Fantastic!

Once again Mr. Silvers takes the reader by the hand and leads them through a maze of heart-breaking and heart-stopping challenges and hilarity, then brings them out on the other side, appreciating his masterful storytelling abilities and the wonderful characters he’s created. I can’t recommend this book and the entire Templeverse series too highly. The books have brought me hours of pleasure and the characters have become good friends. Treat yourself by reading not only this excellent book, but the entire series. Each book just gets better.
