A feisty girl with bright blue eyes wasn’t on his list of things to do, but she quickly moves her way up to the very top. When he realizes completing his dad’s mission means crushing her in the process, he must decide if his dreams are worth the risk – or if he even has the same dreams, at all.
Two secrets. Two hearts. Two hands being played in one twisted game of deceit.
When the cards are on the table, will anyone be left standing?
The perfect poker face can only hide them for so long.

Already loving Skyler from Palm South, I was excited to read this book . I loved seeing more of her bad@ss personality and see her with Kip. He’s pretty sexy too. I did a co-read with PSU 4-Legacy and it was pretty cool. Love everything my Kandi!
Kip and Skyler meet when he transfers into Palm South University. She is a professional Poker player and Kip offers to help her practice. They have chemistry and can be themselves with each other. Over the coarse of the semester they laugh, share and start to fall in love. Will their secrets destroy any chance they have at love?
I have only read a couple of Kandi Steiner’s books but they are always so amazing. She gives us so much emotion, and characters that are so real and raw. Love Skyler, Kip and all their sisters and brothers. I laughed and had my heart broken and put back together again. This was my first visit to Palm South and I am looking forward to visiting there again.
So glad that Skylar got her own book! She’s my favorite in the PSU series of books. This book was all kinds of feels.. This is a book of what you find you’re capable of and what you’re willing to give up for love. Kip is the hot new transfer, who everyone is talking about. Him and Skylar share a hot kiss but then things turn for both of them. If you’ve read any of the PSU books, then you know Skylar is a star poker player. She’s gearing up for the big show in Vegas. Kip was unexpected but needed for her to realize some things. As sweet as they are as a couple, there’s plans a foot to keep them apart. This is when things get interesting.. I won’t say anymore but you need to read the book and get to know Skylar and Kip better. I loved this book! My only reason for not giving it 5 stars was I had to read in parts due to reading book 4 in the PSU series. I realize my mistake lol
I loved this book! I really loved how poker was used as a center throughout this book and all the references comparing the game and love. I loved Kandi Steiner’s writing and how she used something she grew up learning (playing poker) and brought it into this story. I loved Kip’s character. He’s a hot nerdy guy that would be so easy to fall for in real life. Skyler is a beautiful brunette who plays poker professionally and uses her winnings to help out her parents as much as she can while away at college. Skyler and Kip have an instant attraction and connection and I loved their relationship together. It was somewhat angsty throughout parts of the book and it definitely kept me on the edge of the seat towards the end. I don’t want to give too much of the book away, so I’ll leave ya with that. Definitely recommend this book!
I read Black Number Four in conjunction with Legacy from the PSU series and it did not disappoint! I’m so in love with Skyler Thorne and Kip Jackson and their story. You knew when they met there was an instant attraction and they couldn’t fight it. She’s a poker player, he’s her Big’s first love. He makes a deal with his dad, she makes a deal with her Big so the cat and mouse game began. As they fell in love they learned secrets about each other that ultimately ended their relationship until the ultimate sacrifice is made and love wins in the end!
Black Number Four has me singing…
“I’m so (caught up)
Got me feeling it (caught up)
I don’t know what it is
But it seems she’s got me twisted…”
Caught Up by Usher popped into my head as I finished Black Number Four. I am all twisted, turned, and rollercoastered. I did what I call the “Director’s Cut” version of this book, I went with Kandi Steiner’s suggestion and it was epic.
It all started with my desire to read her Palm South University series which is actually written after Black Number Four but as a prequel and a multi-person POV of many of the characters in these pages. I found I got the better deal. Reading the PSU series and then tackling this book while reading Legacy was a much cooler experience (I think).
Black Number Four is an extension of a family I already love. It was hard at first because I knew it wouldn’t be easy. I knew what was coming and I knew it would hurt. BUT I also knew, in this case, I wasn’t going to be left out in the rain. Black Number Four is a stand alone. No worrying if you get an HEA. Its there for the taking, you just have to go after it.
All those worried about not knowing a thing about poker, don’t worry. I made it just fine. I’ve never played a single hand and I had no trouble enjoying it. Though, I agree witb Skyler where are the half naked dudes with giant checks for the lady poker players!?! We should totally call Vegas out on that…or we could leave it to a roll of the dice…
Legacy, PSU#4 and Black #4 really should be read together, they can be read separately, but to get the best reading experience I would suggest reading them together.
Skyler and Kip are the main characters in Black Number Four. This book follows along in conjunction with Legacy and fits in with that storyline, but only gives us Skyler and Kip’s POV. This book gives you the insight into why Kip came to PSU, the thoughts swirling inside his head regarding Skyler and Erin and also extra insight from Skyler regarding the mess she’s gotten herself into leading up to and after the poker tournament.
Black Number Four was a fun read about a group of college kids in Florida. Skyler and Kip, while holding huge secrets from each other, find themselves pulled together. This book finds these two college juniors reaching out to find themselves and what they really want to do with life and each other. I look forward to more from this crew!
Black Number Four (I’d call it a supplementary book to Legacy, Book 4 of the Palm South University series.) gives us more insight into Kip and Skyler’s relationship. We get dual POVs between Kip and Skyler as they navigate young love, secrets, lies, betrayal, and playing poker. Kandi Steiner guides us as to which chapters to read in tandem with Legacy. I have to say that this is a first for me and very unusual. I didn’t love this aspect of having to switch back and forth and it made the chapters a little redundant, so I found myself skip-reading parts of it. I did love getting to see the other person’s perspective. If you haven’t read Legacy, I would suggest reading it along with Black Number Four instead of just reading Black Number Four or Legacy. I think you could get by on just reading Legacy but it does enhance the story to read both. Honestly, I think that Black Number Four should have just been incorporated into Legacy instead of having to go back and forth between the two books.
I read this book at the same time as Legacy by Kandi Steiner. I absolutely loved how it complimented Legacy. It had the same spark as the rest of the PSU books. It helped develop Kip and Skylar’s relationship that much more in the readers eye. The amount of angst in this particular relationship was top notch. The poker tournaments are intriguing. I’m just in love with these characters!

They have a class together and Sky is looking forward to spending more time with him. But that’s all before she finds out about Kip’s past with Erin, her sorority Big Sister. Erin wants him back and has a scheme that involves Skyler playing a vital role and she’d do just about anything for her Big Sister. What will happen between Kip and Skyler as feelings develop? Will it interfere with their plans? Will Sky be able to play her part and give Kip up for Erin? Will Kip follow through with his secret mission? Will they work things out and find a way to be together? Or will one or both end up brokenhearted? Read the book to find out.
I loved Kip and Skyler’s story! I loved them both as characters. They had great chemistry, and I enjoyed their witty banter. This story was so fun with all the secrets and twists as both played the games they were forced to play. It was sweet, sexy, humorous, and heartbreaking. I loved it and highly recommend it!
This was a great book by Kandi Steiner. I am on a mission to devour every book she has written and Black Number Four is no different. I really enjoyed this book. It was cute with plenty drama between a sorority and a fraternity. I loved getting the whole college feel with this book. Add in a badass poker player and I found Black Number Four to be very fun. Kip and Skyler were very likable and I was rooting for them throughout the entire book despite all the secrets and lies they kept from one another. Their chemistry was sweet and funny. I also liked Skyler’s friends, well most of them and how supportive and caring they were.
This was honestly a good book. Kandi Steiner is a great writer. I thinks its impossible to not like her books.
