The story flowed from one part to another. I loved that the female protagonist took charge and for the most part did what she needed to do. It was fun to read and I would recommend this to anyone who loves mysteries and/or paranormal books.

This is a great beginning to an entertaining new series. It took me a couple of pages to get into it, then it hooked me and I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between Alex and Finn is great! The characters are well written. The story is fast paced with lots of twists and action. It has an abundance of different Otherkin, magic, and suspense. I’m hoping to continue reading the rest of the series to see if I have read the hints of Alex’s heritage correctly.

I absolutely enjoyed reading Black Mark by Katherine Hazen! Right out of the first chapter, you are sucked in! Its twisting storyline keeps you captivated. This is an action packed story with interesting characters and story plot. Book is well written with a unique story, I cannot wait to read the next book!
Otherkin. Trolls. Ogres. Pixies. Otherkin. The world tilted when the Otherkin came out of the shadows and from behind their glamours, but humanity learned to adapt. But not all is as it seems, when non-magicals start disappearing without a trace…
“Adrenaline flooded Alex’s system as she pulled her baton from her pocket and flipped it open. She flung herself at the Daemonkin sneaking up on Nikki. She already had one friend with his life on the line in this mess. Nobody would lay a finger on her best friend.” – Alex Whittaker
All Alex wants to do is to find her missing sister Helena. Teaming up with Finnegan Black, a private detective who has also lost his fiancee to the same fate, seemed like a good plan. But the shadows hide more than simple secrets, and Alex and Finn are drawn into dangerous situations, each more deadly than the last.
“Seventy-two hours. That is final. “- Kurk Sumners
Captivating! An action packed urban fantasy that grabs you from the first word and. Doesn’t. Let. Go!
A distraught Finn Black searching for his missing fiancée is coerced into helping find the sister of the new owner of his former private investigation agency. Are the disappearances related? Will they be found in time? Loved this action packed adventure! Looking forward to book two!

Secrets, lies, misdirection. Who can Alex trust? Alexandra’s sister disappeared two years ago and magic was involved. When she finds out that ex-cop Finn’s fiancée disappeared in the same manner and the same piece of red glass was left behind, she decides to work with him. But he has been a drunk for five years and she has to sober him up. She hopes to devote all of their time to finding the two missing women, but a friend brings her a case that is so complex and involves several different demons, magical artifacts, and everyone group backstabbing and out to get a powerful artifact. Along the way she and Finn will have to learn to trust each other, but something happens while working the case. Either she or Finn have magic that they never knew about. Will it hurt or help them, and how do they control it? I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Non-stop action, a great plot, and a large cast of humans and Fae creatures that will keep you engrossed till the end and wishing or more.
Magic, trolls, demons and a whole lot of adventure…
Finnegan Black (Finn) has lost his way in life. He was an OD (Otherkin Department) detective who investigated crimes involving paranormal beings but he quit his job after the police gave up on trying to solve the disappearance of his fiancée. He became a private investigator and started his own agency so he could continue the investigation on his own. Unfortunately for him, he managed to lose his business to Maeve, a mob-like boss lady with no love for Finn. Now he works in his former office as an employee of Maeve but the rest of his time is spent in an alcohol-infused haze of bitterness and self-loathing. That all changes when he meets Alex (Maeve’s ex). Maeve has signed the agency over to Alex. Alex wants to partner up with Finn to solve the disappearance of her sister and she believes that her sister’s disappearance is somehow linked to the disappearance of Finn’s fiancée, though she isn’t sure how. That was the plan – two birds, one stone. What could go wrong? Well….. a lot. Before they even get to know each other one of Alex’s friends is in trouble and needs their help. Let the adventure begin. This story is a real treat if you are looking for an action-packed, fast-paced adventure with an original storyline and wonderful characters. Looking for a diversion? I highly recommend this book for a fun and absorbing read.

Having not heard of the author before I entered this book with trepidation only to find a great book. Well written, fully fleshed characters, interesting world going back to JFK history, and keeping magic from being too complicated, means a lot, but having a decent storyline means even more. The only trouble I found was that there seemed to be no backlash by the bad guys after the characters do something, but maybe that will come out in the next book. Really like that the story ends without a cliffhanger but the underlying mystery that will tie the series together has taken a step forward. Good read.
Our heroine is a paranormal detective and our hero is reluctantly helping her out. But like any investigation, things get complicated real fast and they are going to have to step up their game just to stay alive.
This is the start of a new urban fantasy series and I am all for it. The story is well written, easy to read and packed with a lot of action, intrigue and mystery to grab you at the start and never let go The characters are well developed and bring the story to life in all of its glory. I enjoyed the combination of detective work with the paranormal living in the open which really made for a distinctive setting. Overall, a great read and I am definitely looking forward to future books in the series.
Highly recommended.
