I am very familiar with Ms. Grants work.
I enjoy her books a lot.
But this one for me was the best of what I have read by her so far.
It had my gripped and captivated.
With the characters and the storyline.
This book involves two different couples and stories.
I could not wait to see what the author had in stored for her readers.
Or how she would combine the two different couples.
Wow she blew it out the water!
So very well written and so thought out.
The story is told in four POV.
Which I loved!
It gave more depth into each individual character.
And wow wow wow how their stories interwove into each other was phenomenal!
It’s complex and intricate.
This book is sexy and of course in true Grant style it involves BDSM.
But so much more than all the hotness this book it is also filled with intense emotions.
Excellent book!
Shayne and Nalani’s story is intense, dramatic, suspenseful. This is not a story for the faint of heart and it’s intensity and subject matter makes this an important part of the relationships that are written in this series. No spoilers, Nalani and Shane have a sweet, natural relationship that develops over time beautifully. On the other spectrum, you have Nolan and Piper , he will patiently show her why they are meant for each other. A powerful story that can not leave you indifferent but will shock you at times. I honestly volunteered to review this arc.
BOOM! Mind blown and mouth agape at this masterpiece.
***This book does contain a fairly graphic sexual assault scene, if that is a potential trigger this may not be the book for you. I felt the issue was handled sensitively, respectfully and in a believable manner. ***
Wow, wow and triple wow. Having had the massively good fortune to not only meet Livia Grant but chat with her (after the Four Brits Book Fest), I know how much blood, sweat and tears were involved in writing this book. I want to just say that it was worth it because without a shadow of a doubt this is her best book to date, and is up there as one of the best Black Light books too.
The book mainly follows a new couple, Nalani and Shane, though there is enough of Piper and Nolan’s story to satisfy the ‘need it now’ resulting from their appearance in the Celebrity Roulette anthology. There are several ways that these four characters are linked, some obvious, others less so.
I wish I’d re-read Piper and Nolan’s Celebrity Roulette story, just to have the events and ‘feelings’ fresh in my mind. However this book has been written in such a way that you can enjoy this book without having read that story first. I really fell in love with these characters, they were believable and had depth, growing and learning as their stories unfolded.
There are some incredibly hot BDSM scenes. Shane has a penchant for humiliation play on an almost sadistic level, Nalani is a BDSM novice. Safewords were discussed and encouraged, though I would have liked to see some discussion/negotiation of limits too.
I just couldn’t read this book quickly enough, always desperate to know what was going to happen next. At the same time I wanted to make it last forever, savouring each moment and submerging myself in the amazing world created by this supremely talented author.
Scandalized is an absolutely amazing read, firmly ensconcing itself as one of my favourite reads of the year. I had the day off and, despite my best intentions to take my time, I just couldn’t put it down. It’s an absolute must read for any Black Light, Livia Grant or BDSM romance fan. I would also happily recommend it to those who like contemporary romance and are willing to be a little more adventurous.
Black Light: Scandalized is the fourteenth book in the Black Light world, and while it stands alone, reading Black Light: Celebrity Roulette would be helpful. Please be aware of a huge trigger warning before reading this book! This is a book that weaves two unlikely couples together through trials and triumphs. Nalani and Shane are almost a naughty Cinderella story, while Nolan and Piper might get a second chance, but will fears and darkness triumph over love?
Holy. Smokes. What did I just read?! Oh my goodness, it was both so good and so heartbreaking and I was so engrossed with this book right from the very beginning! Shane completely fascinated me because he was the perfect dichotomy between being a dirty bastard and a protective and caring provider. He was fun and had a huge mischievous streak that shined through in both intimate times and out. Nalani was equally fascinating because she had a history to hide, had a dirty side she was finding, and an innocent side that just shined through. I really enjoyed their scenes together and just got lost in their romance! Then I got lost in everything else that happened in this book. Holy crap! I was on an emotional rollercoaster between love, anger, bawling my eyes out, goodness, my heart hurt reading this book! Then you add in everything with Nolan and Piper, a couple introduced in a previous book and their relationship continues to unfold here, and this book turns into something that’s almost hard to read, but so worth it. It’s a chaotic yet beautiful balance between dark and light, consent vs harm, ripping your heart out and healing it back together. I wanted to hate this book at times, but I loved this book! I’ll have a book hangover, but it is so worth it!
Ms Grant takes us on a tour de force through the beginning of a hardcore D/s relationship on one hand, and the attempt to rekindle another one.
What starts as a sensuous excursion into kinks of the most decadent kind is plunged into abject horror by the depravity of one power-mad individual.
With relentless dedication to detail we are dragged through a nightmare scenario which is multiplied when the connection between the two couples becomes clear.
The gripping narrative of the fight for physical and emotional survival of individuals in such circumstances is made even more thought provoking by recent events in the ‘real world’.
The saving factor in the end is the loving support of a checkered ‘family’ of friends and loved ones.
A gripping provocative book.
I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could.
I always enjoy the Black Light books but this one is really amazing. I enjoyed everything about it particularly the great characters, the great and sensitive storyline, the playful witty banter in the couples interactions and last but not least the super hot sex scenes. Amazing!
I love the Black Light world, but this story is so much more than a kinky HEA. It grabbed me by the throat and wouldn’t let go. Then I needed to stop reading so fast because I didn’t want the story to end. And the end was everything you could wish for.
Livia weaved two love stories into one fabulous book. First there is Piper and Nolan, who we met in the Celebrity Roulette anthology where they did not get their HEA. Nalani, the executive housekeeper at Black Light West and Shane, an over-the-top celebrity with specific kinks, are the second couple.
Their stories intersect after a rich, powerful but horrid man viciously attacks Nalani. Piper suffered repeated abuse at this man’s hands years ago, and has never come to terms with her emotional scars, choosing instead to build a wall around her heart and mind. The author brilliantly conveys how the emotional turmoil, anxiety and guilt caused by violent abuse affects both partners, and how the trauma and guilt has to be dealt with by everyone in the relationship, including extended family.
The care and love between all involved, including the larger Black Light family, shines throughout this story and makes the (still kinky) HEAs possible.
This Black Light series gets better with every new book.i have been waiting to hear the story about Nolan and Piper. And Livia did not disappoint. I am so happy to hear their conclusion.
And Nalani and Shane’s story was full of love and bliss and then poor Nalani, my heart was breaking for her and what she endured.
This series is highly recommended!
Stunning
Oh my freakin god! Piper and Nolan, Nalani and Shane’s story/ies are at times brutal and dark, loving and lusty and will take you on an emotional rollercoaster of extremes. This is an intense page turner that will be worth every minute you give it. Be prepared!
Livia Grant is an excellent writer, but this story is much more than excellent, it is absolutely addictive. It is erotic, intriguing and so thoroughly thought out, that it just over-powered my mind and my heart.
Nalani is a housekeeper at Black Light. Unfortunately, she gets into a bit of difficulty with a prestigious guest and is then saved by Shane, an international celebrity. Shane is an experienced Dom, turned on by some rather sadistic, kinky urges, which includes persuading his sub to expand her limits. Nalani is a BDSM innocent. Shane is captivated by her embarrassed responses. I cannot wait to see how Shane will manage to overcome Nalani’s concerns and lure her into his erotically kinky lifestyle. My goodness, but he is a thrilling, erotic, absurdly kinky, strong Dominant. And, he wants Nalani!
Interspersed within the burgeoning romance of Nalani and Shane is the competitive struggle between Piper and Nolan, who we met in the last Black Light Roulette. The two stories intermix surprisingly well, helping to lead to an intense conclusion.
There are several powerful triggers in this story that make us see the dangers many women have faced and overcome. My entire heart and soul twisted into knots of misery and despair. Yet, somehow, Ms. Grant was able to lead us through the desolation into a HEA that made me want this story to go on forever.
This book covers two couples, Piper and Nolan from the lastest Roulette book, and Nalani and Shane, who are a brand new couple. I actually like how it follows both of these couples, and how we get to flash back and forth between the 4 people and the 4 POVs. There are times when the stories intersect, and times when they are completely separate, and I think that Livia Grant did really well keeping that happening in a way that didn’t confuse anyone.
At its heart, when you get away from the kinkery and the sex, this book is really all about connections and falling in love or back in love. It’s about learning to let yourself depend on someone else and trust them, as well as learning how to let someone to make the decisions they need to, even if that’s not the decision that you want.
There is a lot of pain in here, but there is also a lot of success, love, joy, and tenderness. It’s a great book.
The latest book in the amazing Black Light world and it is a very intense, emotional, heartbreaking and sexy book. I have been waiting for the book and I am so happy with the end result. It is a beautiful read that will stay with you for a while.
The story focuses on two couples. One couple already featured in the last Black Light Roulette book and there is a new couple. And there are some familiar faces as well.
I won’t say to much about the actual story because I don’t want to spoil anything, but it isn’t an easy subject that is being addressed although sadly it is something that happens to many women.
There is also a lot of funny, tender and very kinky moments. I loved Shane and Nalani and their journey. Nalani reactions to kink were amazing and felt so natural. Piper and Nolan had so much fire and energy and I loved how Nolan wouldn’t give up and the kinky things he came up with.
The only bad thing about the book ….. it ended. I wanted more.
I honestly don’t know where to start with this review. The emotions that welled up in me at times were overwhelming, but not in a bad way. Ms. Grant did an outstanding job of weaving the stories of 2 different couples together. I knew there would be something that would connect them but when that was revealed, I was basically in awe. Very seldom do I read a story that touches all the emotions in me but this is one of those few. The way this was written………..everything came together and you understood why this was one book with two different couples and how the heartache and troubles that happen helped each couple in different ways. One, to face the past and then move on and the other, to face the future and still move on. The strength of both of the couples humbled me and made me realize what people who are really in love will do for each other. Out of all of the Black Light books, and I’ve read every one of them, this story and one other story will always and forever be my favorites. All I can say is if you are a fan of this series, get the tissues or the crying towel out because you are going to need it. Beautifully written, this is one story you won’t forget!! Bravo!
I can’t even, I just don’t, sigh…..I usually do word vomit! But my emotions are all over the place with this one. We have two different couples with their own problems going on and then….it all blows up!
My emotions took over in this one, I couldn’t put it down, had to know what happened next.
This may be a fantasy world full of sexy, kinky times and the very rich but at it’s core it’s a story, a series about people, just people trying to live and love and find the other person or persons who fit them.
I’ve becone very attached to them all, was waiting on this one and it was perfect. I had a friend tell me to get out my crying towel and it was the best advice ever.
I was invested in this one from page one, not a safe for work reading, if the sexy scenes don’t get you the emotionally crushing ones will. So my advice, find a quiet place, grab a beverage, a blanket and some Kleenex. You’re gonna be there for a while. You can thank me later.
I’m mentally and emotionally drained. I’m staring at my screen, watching the cursor blink and trying desperately to find any words that can explain what this story just put me through, but I have none. I had a feeling I knew which direction part of this story was going to go, but I still never anticipated the actual route it took getting us there. Parts of this story are very dark and brutal and should definitely come with a trigger warning. In spite of the hell the author puts her characters through, I loved every moment I spent in this book. I’d already started falling in love with Piper and Nolan and was desperate to see them find their way out of the chaos. Then we were introduced to Nalani and Shane and I was immediately captivated by what was developing between them. I feel like the aftermath is wrapped up a little too easily, but after everything these two couples are put through in this book, easy isn’t all bad.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Still trying to catch my breath… This is by far the most heart-wrenching story of the series. There were so many times I had to put it down to gain control of my emotions or to dry my tears. I was a wreck and yet I felt the love and blazing heat as the characters explored their unique D/s dynamics. The Black Light crowd has come to life once again, and although it is fiction, I dare anyone reading not to be impacted as if the author was describing circumstances happening to someone you know. Be it Nolan/Piper or Shane/Nalani, these are couples you will love and be rooting for in spite of the seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Now the wait for my next Black Light fix begins… Five stars do not begin to cover the excellence of this book.
The Black Light series is a seamless set of BDSM stories written by multiple authors. The stories are standalones, with some recurring characters. This book focuses on two couples, Piper and Nolan, and Shane and Nalani. Piper & Nolan were introduced in the Celebrity Valentines edition, and I have been waiting impatiently for Mistress Ice’s story. I adored Shane’s careful introduction of his lifestyle to Nalani, her acceptance & mutual enjoyment of their kink. The author does a great job of making her characters multidimensional, and I loved Shane’s unapologetic acknowledgement of his desires. While the couples have loved up times, they also have horrific struggles; my emotions were all over the place reading this book, and I found some events difficult to read. Tissues were definitely involved, as I felt so close to these couples at this point. Thankfully, trust, love, and healing are a great pathway to moving forwards, and I felt gratified by the end. A big win for the Black Light series.
I received a copy of this book. My honest review is voluntarily provided.
Once again, Livia Grant gives us a story that will leave you with a case of the feels. We get two couples for the price of one in “Scandalized”. In it, we meet Shane Covington as he sweeps Nalani Ione off her feet and into a whirlwind relationship. And, we are reintroduced to Nolan and Piper, from the Celebrity Roulette anthology, and we get front row seats to the electrifying chemistry that exists between the two. But of course, it wouldn’t be a Black Light book without secrets and mystery. Likes: Once again, Ms. Grant does an amazing job creating characters that you will instantly love. And with Shane Covington, Ms. Grant also touches on some bits of naughtiness that isn’t as prevalent in romances and still managed to make her character endearing. Overall, this was an entertaining read interspersing in some of our favorite characters from Black Light with the right amount of suspense that will keep you tapping those pages. So grab your favorite snacks and drinks, get comfortable, and enjoy.
Wow, just WOW! This book is intense and not for the faint of heart, the subject matter is very serious and I was very wound up when I got to that particular part. The journey and path to there was magnificent tho. The characters Shane and Nalani are in depth and real. Nolan and Piper were just as poignant in their journey as well. Family is a wonderful thing even though they are not blood, it’s who you surround yourselves with and how they treat you. Everyone is different in who they are and what they do and should not be judged on their occupation, it’s not who they really are. I went through so many emotions in this book it was an amazing read. I absolutely love the Black Light family and am so glad I had the opportunity to read this book. Thank you Ms. Grant.
I received this advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
Book 14 in the Black Light series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. If you’ve read Black Light: Celebrity Roulette, then you will be familiar with Nolan and Piper they are two of the four main characters in this book. Nolan and Pipers story is so well written and tragically interwoven with Shane and Nalani’s story. Full length sometimes emotional and hard to read but beautiful hard-earned HEA. Guilt is an emotion that effects so many, and this story shows how it has a lifelong effect. The Black Light West family were secondary characters and offered love and support to their BDSM family.
