He is the guardian. He will protect his saint, no matter what it takes…Black and Miri get thrown into the middle of a high-profile murder case when one of Miri’s ex-clients becomes the next victim. When the body is found, beheaded and tied to a pier, detectives arrive in San Francisco from Los Angeles, convinced it’s the infamous serial killer they’ve been hunting, known only by his media name … only by his media name of “the Templar.”
When the Templar continues to cut a swath through San Francisco, his victims begin to show a new pattern, however––a pattern that appears to have Miri at its center.
To complicate everything, Miri and Black are going through a Seer-mate bonding, and having a strange effect on everyone around them as a result. When Black decides to use his old black ops connections to try and find the killer, Miri is left in San Francisco to try and help Nick, until the killer forces both of them into a final showdown.
Book four in the paranormal mystery romance series starring brilliant but dangerous psychic detective, Quentin Black, and his partner, forensic psychologist Miri Fox.

Even more intense then the last book. Communication problems plague our couple, trust issues as well. Now there is a killer trying to send messages to Miri it seems. The end is funny.
I simply enjoy this series — the plots are layered, the characters are wonderful, and the writer is building suspense with the main thread that joins each of the books so far. I love every new reveal about the relationship between Miri and Black. I’ve pre-ordered book 5 and I’m waiting anxiously to continue the story line.
Psychic detective Quentin Black disappears leaving his partner and forensic psychologist Miri Fox alone in San Francisco as soon as they return from Bangkok. He gave no explanation and gave no clues as to what he is doing, just leaving her the equivalent of breadcrumbs and cryptic hints. Miri is able to feel him more and more every day both when she is awake and when she is asleep dreaming to the point that her life starts to spin out of control as she senses what Black is doing is starting to be out of his control. She can sense he is in danger, but he won’t admit it and no one will listen to her when she tries to get help from his staff. She can sense this new job of his is becoming more like a gauntlet and a test proving his loyalty of both his race and the mysterious Lucky Lucifer who controls a seer cult in Europe. So Miri realises she has to save Black even if she has to cross some cultural lines changing her life forever.
Oh wow – this book was all action, drama, danger and one hell of a reveal of information at the end that was impossible to predict. Lots of references to events in the previous books and some cross over to the Bridge and Sword World books which you might pick up easier now the final book in that series has been published. I loved how Miri was the strong one for much of this and she was the one knowing what she wanted and was going out to make sure she got it. Well written and very enjoyable. I have to confess I was unable to stop reading this and might have stayed up very late because I couldn’t bear to not know what happened next.
I love seeing Black and Miri as a couple. I especially like seeing them work through their different understandings of the world. This was a gritty mystery, though I wasn’t as caught by surprise as I think I was supposed to be. I’m going to give credit to my suspicious, anti-social nature that just doesn’t trust anyone for how I spotted the real culprit in spite of all the enticing red herrings thrown in our way. The next book was one of the very first I ever read in this series. Knowing what’s coming, I’m a bit reluctant to dive head-first into the next book. I will, but I’m already braced for the shock I’m about to be hit with.
Loved this one. Good plot, sensitive treatment of Black and Miri’s relationship, and realistic drama. 5 stars!
