Amazon Bestselling Author Mickey Miller, brings you a brand new standalone enemies-to-lovers romance.Recklessly cocky. Brutally handsome. Exceptionally Talented. And Utterly Ruthless.Meet my childhood crush, everybody.Except handsome Shane North is all grown up now, and he’s out for revenge…on me.Before I moved away, Shane was my best friend’s older brother. But Shane isn’t the lanky, spindly … brother. But Shane isn’t the lanky, spindly boy I used to know. He’s been replaced by a handsome man with broad, muscular shoulders and hockey scouts lining up to get him to play for their team.
When he “accidentally” sends me a selfie one night after a chance phone call, then shows up at my house per my mother’s request, a passion ignites inside me that I’ve never felt once in my life.
But there’s one big problem: Shane is holding onto an enormous secret. Something everyone in town seems to know but won’t tell me. My father was the richest man in Black Mountain, and had his share of enemies, as reading his diary informs me.
The more I fight my attraction to Shane, the more I fall for him. Despite his secrets, recklessness, and temper, he’s got a protective streak a mile wide for those he cares about. Which, after one very hot night, includes me.
My attraction to him comes on strong and without warning. But this is no fairy tale. This is a nightmare.
I just pray the big bad ice wolf known Shane North is on my side.
And before I make it out of Black Mountain, I’m going to have to confront the secrets about my father this town has tucked away.
Or should I say, if I make it out of this town.

A former Hockey player reunites with a small-town girl who needs to return home and face the sins of her father’s past. What could go wrong?
For Natalie Toft, apparently, everything does go wrong. When she first reaches out to Shane North, she gets more than what she bargained for. Rude, moody and broody, Natalie realizes that she doesn’t know the Shane of the present that she knew of the past. But she’s in desperate need of help, and Shane is the only man for the job.
Having Natalie come back into town gives Shane more trouble than he can handle. Caught up in the sins of her father’s past, Shane has a hard time getting past history to see the present in front of him. But Natalie’s determination to make things right goes a long way to suddenly making Shane lose his focus of revenge and find a new purpose in his life–to make Natalie his once and for all.
This was a great book by Mickey Miller, and I can’t wait to read more from him!
After the death of her father Natalie returns to hometown to finalize his estate not realizing what transpired after she left. Her attempts to reconnect with her best friend brings more sorrow into her life as well as her best friend’s brother.
Shane is a former hockey star who had to leave his career in the past to deal with a couple tragedies in his family that he has never been able to accept. He is better, angry and feels payback is the only way that he will be able to heal. He has devised a plan which includes Natalie but when feelings develop between them will he choose love or continue with his plan?
Intrigue, heat, and twists as secrets are revealed and neither of their lives will ever be the same.
Natalie and Shane’s story is edgy, mysterious and frankly a bit dysfunctional at times. You are kept on the edge with all of the emotional changes both of these characters are feeling. Their past, present and future all tell something. The simple and subtle darkness you find in this will carrying you on until the end. This way much more than I anticipated! Unforgettable story! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Dark and gloomy, not a typical Mickey Miller book. But, it was so good. A little hockey mentioned but a lot of small hometown ins and outs in this one. Childhood friends, Natalie and Shane, are the MCs. Sounds like a second chance but it’s an enemies to lovers type.
What a fun start to the year 2020 with an amazing book from Mickey Miller.
Miller brings us another side of him, a slightly dark side interwoven with the amazing romance he knows how to write.
Shane and Natalie An amazing story that draws you in. On the one hand, you get the petting on the cheek and the other you slap it.
Miller has combined the dark element with the romantic, letting you slowly understand the way things are. Constructs the plot in such a way that you fall in love and realize that not everything is black and white that also has gray in the middle.
And finally, the mind and the heart win the anger and resentment.
Highly recommend.
I wasnt sure what I really expected when I started this story but I loved it. I felt invested in their relationship and the ups and downs they were facing. I loved how the storyline developed and the ending made me happy in so many ways. A very enjoyable and good story. Highly recommend.
A dark, gut-wrenching exploration of the barren, desolate wasteland of grief & awakening to hope for the future
I started this read a few edits ago. It released early, so I decided to start from the beginning.
I loved Mickey’s little journey to the darker side. There is still some of his signature humor but a bit more cynical than usual. This is not a lighthearted read.
Black Mountain is not a happy or thriving town. Set in the cold, snowy Upper Peninsula of Michigan, there was a pervasive feel of cold as I read Shane & Natalie’s story.
They are both grieving. Natalie; for her recently deceased father, the reason she has come back to Black Mountain after years away; and Shane; for his father, sister, and himself; although he hasn’t faced all his losses fully. A fact that plays a role in his actions.
Natalie has unknowingly stumbled into a town that hates her. That she once called home and has happy memories of, but is now met with suspicion and resentment she doesn’t understand, because she is about to learn her father wasn’t the man she thought he was.
Shane, the only person she knows there, does not welcome her with open arms. And she discovers his sister, the girl she remembers as her best friend, died. She is confused by all of this since her parents kept it all from her.
Shane has hated & resented her for years because of things her father did. When face to face with her, he finds his present at odds with the pain of his past.
Dark, full of sorrow, revenge, coldness, but also some hope, change, a realization that something needs to change, or nothing will improve.
I loved Shane. His dark into light journey is a journey we can all relate to on some level.
While not full of Mickey’s usual humor, this novel does not skimp on the heat. Natalie and Shane’s chemistry is sizzling. The only heat in the cold barren landscape of both their hearts & Black Mountain. It also has a strong thread of suspense.
I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
A great enemies to lovers story. Sometimes your body just doesn’t do what your mind tell it to do. You end up falling for a girl you are suppose to hate. Another great read by Mickey Miller.
Grieving and processing her family loss, Natalie finds herself in need of a friend. Unfortunately, those are scarce in Black Mountain. When she reaches out to her childhood friend, it’s her friend’s brother that answers. Only he’s not the boy she remembers. Gone is the sweet boy replaced by a hard, cold, angry man. A man that stirs something deep inside her. But there’s just something that is off…
Shane became bitter at hearing from Natalie. She’d left years ago. But she’s back and he wants retribution. She means nothing to him. Except he feels lighter when he’s with her. Hockey was once his salve to soothe, now it’s her.
Secrets, old wounds, and the need to even things out bind and divide.
Black Ice was a wild ride that led you where you didn’t expect to go! I loved it! It had me hooked from the first page! I couldn’t put it down! It was a dark, emotional read with plenty of suspense and twists and turns to keep you reading to see what happens next. Shane and Natalie were perfect together. This was a great enemies to lovers romance! I can’t wait for the next book from Mickey!
Wow! This is just as good as other books by Mickey but dark and edgier. Shane and Natalies storyline is great with darkness, angst and super steamy scenes. This book will not disappoint!
This story was so captivating. It had my attention from cover to cover. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what next? This story of two people who both loss people they love and loss them in a way that will stick with them. One blames the other and her family for the loss of everyone in his life. This story was heart-wrenching but amazing!
I have no words for how I felt about this book but WOW. I loved every minute of it. I read this book in one sitting and I didn’t want it to end. This book will pull you in and won’t let go. I loved the darker tone of the story. It was an edgy enemies to lovers’ romance. Shane and Natalie knew each other as kids but she moved away when her parents split up when she was 12. During this time, Shane suffered some very hard times and he went down a dark path. Years later, Natalie is back to clean out her father’s house and she connects with Shane again. The emotions you will feel when you are reading this story will be intense. The heat between them was so intense that I was feeling it. I loved this darker side of Mickey and I know that I will be reading this book again and again. This book is a one click buy and you won’t regret it because I know I didn’t.
Just when you think this is a typical Mickey Miller romance, some darkness creeps in and turns off all around. I loved reading this book so much. The different elements certainly makes it stand out. I can’t wait to read more.
This is another great read from Mickey. I haven’t read a lot of sport type of books but this one I really enjoy. I sucked me in the more I read.
Wow, definitely not the usual romance novel from Mickey Miller. This book is a dark enemies to lovers romance where one MC, Natalie, is completely unaware of the undercurrent of hatred by the other MC, Shane. The tragedy that brings Natalie back to her hometown is a catalyst that brings a teenage revenge fantasy back to life. Mother Nature forces a confrontation of the truth. And old secrets no longer stay buried. But, along the way Shane gains a deeper understanding of the woman she has become and will stop at nothing to protect her. Both MC’s grow and change from their time together. The storyline moves along well and it was a quick, enjoyable read with a HEA. I highly recommend you check out this book!

I absolutely loved this book. I am not used to this type of story by this author. It was a little dark but alot of hot. The heroine returned to her small mining town in upper michigan when her father passed away. She came in contact with her schoolgirl crush when her mom called him to go check in on her. The hero is brooding and has a chip on his shoulder. He is out for revenge against her for things her father has done. It’s an amazingly written story that kept me glued to the pages until the very end.
I straight up loved it! I found myself utterly wrapped up in Natalie and Shane’s story and devouring each and every word. Natalie goes home after the death of her father. While there she runs into her old friend Shane. Natalie and Shane share a connection and an undeniable chemistry. This enemies to lovers story is a dark, edgy, and addictive page turner that is perfectly written and takes you for one hell of a ride. This story has it all, there’s drama, angst, secrets and lies; it’s entertaining, unpredictable, suspenseful, and with every chapter it will leave you wanting for more. A fantastic read and one I definitely recommend!
Wow is about all I can say! This was so different from his other books, but in such a good way. I could not put it down once I started it. Mickey Miller is a one-click author for me because I know I will always get a great read full of funny quips and steamy hot scenes. This enemy to lovers romance was full of angst and was a bit more of a somber read that had me flipping pages to see what happened next. He really outdid himself on the charters in this book and their story. I love that he took a chance to write something so different from his normal books, and I fully believe that he nailed it.
Shane and Natalie are forced to spend time together and their chemistry sizzled, despite Shane insistence that he couldn’t stand Natalie, leaving poor Natalie completed confused by mixed signals.
I enjoyed the darker influences of murky wrong-doings, causing grief to a community and where grudges are not forgotten.
A story of undeniable attraction, revenge and family secrets, this had me gripped.
