“It’s doing something,” the boatman said, hooking a thumb towards the shed. “It’s bad enough when it was just a dead body, man. Now, it’s like… doing things.”“Doing things?” Black stared at him, his rich, drunk-guy schtick forgotten. “It’s a dead body. What could it possibly be doing?”Miri just wanted a vacation… a little alone-time with her mate. After months of separation, after Black’s … mate.
After months of separation, after Black’s struggles with his recent “transformation,” after Miri doing her part, ridding the world of evil, including her crazy uncle and his dreams of enslaving the human race, she really just wanted to hang in Hawaii with Black and drink mai tais out of pineapples.
But not a day passes before the body of a strange soldier washes up on shore, a body whose very existence raises disturbing questions, and not only because he’s part machine.
When an old friend asks Black to find answers, Black reluctantly agrees, even as paparazzi hound Black and Miri’s every move, making it impossible to blend with the other rich celebrities at the exclusive resort where they’re staying.
Then more soldiers show up, alive ones this time.
Black discovers something more sinister at work, putting him and Miri in the crosshairs once again.

I fell in love with Quentin Black with book 1 of the series. Each story gets better and Black Hawaii does not disappoint. If you want a unique world full of fascinating characters surviving suspenseful things, this is the book for you.
Black Hawaii by J.C. Andrijeski is the thirteenth book in the Quentin Black series.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Note: this review contains spoilers!
Assuming you have read the last book in the series, whatever you thought this book was going to be, it isn’t. Well it kind of is. But not really. Because nothing turns out the way you expect in a Quentin Black novel. All of the regulars are back: Black, Miri, Cowboy, Angel, and Nick. Yes that’s right Nick the vampire is back in a Black book. But Black doesn’t know he’s back, at least not yet. So if you remember in the last book Miri had popped in and out and taken Charles. But why stop there? Charles isn’t the only bad person in the world. There are plenty of others that need to ”pop out” for a while so that Black and Miri can get things under control. It’s that ”getting things under control” part that doesn’t quite work the way it’s supposed to because Charles had a contingency plan. One that’s not completely working the way it should. Someone forgot to include the do not kill human part. So now Black and Miri are in Hawaii and are you trying to convince everyone that Black didn’t turn into a dragon or that Miri wasn’t popping in and out with no clothes on all over the countryside. And they’re trying to deconstruct the stuff that Charles built to control the humans in the United States and take over the government. And then they have this little contingency plan that in the moment of stupidity has decided to take Miri out instead of just capturing her.
It’s another fast paced, impossible to put down, too dangerous for a roller coaster ride that will keep you up way past your bed time! And I loved it! I hope you do too!
A Hawaiian vacation Black style… !
Although followers of the Black series are used to explosions, murder, and destruction in the nicest places, this story introduces a new twist.
Though Miri took care of most of the “bad-boys”, the fight is by no means over. Far from it, it escalates. And brings Black to the edge of his endurance.
And in the middle of all the carnage we see a long anticipated love story finally being acknowledged.
This is another fast paced tale, which never fails to keep you glued to your reader waiting for, and dreading the end.
After “Black of Hearts” Quentin Black and his wife Miri are desperately in need of a much-deserved TLC, what a better place than Hawaii for a renewed honeymoon, for Miri to relax now that Black is himself once more. The beginning is auspicious, both eager to make the most of the time, with Quentin at his funniest… putting in this best show for the paparazzi… As body appears on scene, all good laid plans go through the proverbial window, an old acquaintance of Black ask him to take on the investigation and soon becomes obvious that it is much more to the case than an accident on the beach. Black’s original PR stunt in Hawaii threats to end in a full disaster, the investigation keeps on revealing new information, and the war between the remaining Charles fraction and Black’s people takes on a new turn.
While Miri and Black try to content the situation in Hawaii. Nick is, unbeknownst to Black, with Jem in headquarters dealing with the repercussions of his own. The book offers brand new insights in most of the characters that we love. Miri shows her own vulnerability but also the lengths she is willing to go to protect her own. Black is not only his usually dark intense self, but also a very funny…. Yes, I said that, Black is a very funny guy…. I could not stop laughing… that I see the day Black keeps me laughing. And there is of course Nick Tanaka in his own way to redemption… the end will blow your mind…. I won’t said more…. just go and read by yourself.
This is the best Quentin Black (and it was really difficult to top after “Black of Hearts”) it hast it all, the known world so similar to our own and yet so different, that has become our favourite retreat, the characters that have become our best friends and worst enemies along the books, and brand new developments that make wish the next book have already been written and you can keep on reading… well sometimes wishes come true… but I have already said more than enough.
JC Andrijeski’s writing style is delightful as always, fluid, fast paced and vivid, with the right dosage of action and romantic to let the characters develop before our eyes with seemingly no effort at all. The Quentin Black Series is aimed to an adult readership, with occasional strong language and explicit erotic, this particular book depicts a M/M relationship, it is not the core of the book or the series, or the book, and if you don’t care for it, it could easily be “read over”.
As always Ms Andrejeskis Quentin Black Mysterys pulls you in within minutes of the opening page.
Miri and Quentin have finally come together from the craziness of Book 12, needing answers of what happened to them and just when you think they will have time for those answers (and each other) an explosive plot drags them away from and into more than their usual limelight.
You learn more on the characters you’ve come to admire.
Meri is a badass for one.
Black, well his humorous side is ridiculous.
Nick, Jem, Angel and the gang, wow.
Will they win this war that is determined to stop them?

Black Hawaii: Quentin Black Mysteries Book #13
Miri, using her power of transportation & to travel dimensions, removes & dismantles her Uncle Charles Organisation & it’s power structure, effectively ending the War over night! She leaves Blacks team leaders, headed by Dex & Yarli at that moment, in charge of their containment, much to their annoyance & bewilderment! She then heads straight back to her Husband, who’s no longer in his Dragon form (phew ) in a resort in Hawaii.
Knowing there is footage of both Black as a Dragon & of Miri ‘disappearing’ what many think are just high ranking Political & Military personnel, but were of course Seers working for Charles!! He’s in billionaire playboy mode and creating cover stories for them, whilst his team’s of hackers, Seers & Human, fill in his coverstory so it can be traced whilst simultaneously removing as much evidence as absolutely possible of them both actually saving Humanity from Charles’ attempt to infiltrate & overthrow them!! Then a body washes ashore but it’s not normal, evidenced when it spontaneously explodes!
Something very sinister is afoot & Miri seems to be being targeted. More augmented ‘Soldiers’ arrive but they can’t be ‘pushed’ & barely picked up in the barrier space!! With more of his People arriving by the hour, to get the bottom of it all, Black is terrified for his wife’s safety! What is going on? Who is running these new soldiers? Can he keep their true differences hidden & Miri protected?? What about Nick & Dalejem?
I was, yet again, captivated by this series. I just love this World This book is intense, kind of creepy but it’s also bursting with all the emotions!! The ending absolutely staggered me, I was flabbergasted!! So can I have book #14 like right now please?? Urgh, the wait is going to be agonising!

JC Andrijeski is back with the latest installment of the absolutely fabulous Quentin Black Mystery series, and Black Hawaii: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance (Book 13) is more than superb. If there’s anyone who deserves “me” time and snuggling it’s Miri and Black. After all they’ve been through, hanging in Hawaii and drinking mai tais out of pineapples is exactly the thing for them to be doing. Unfortunately for them, it’s more android soldiers and paparazzis then sun and relaxation. Fortunately for we readers they handle things in their usual perfect style in a wonderfully thrilling and exciting adventure that is perfectly written. I adored this book. I guess I should warn those bothered by this sort of thing that there’s not only the “usual stuff” found in this series (e.g., explicit sex, swearing, etc.: totally hot fun to me) but also some M/M action (to which my own reaction was “ooo, a yummy sandwich”, to my poor hubby’s dismay). Bottom line though is that the is a wonderfully totally fun book that I’m very happy to recommend.
All Miri wanted was a vacation so they could spend some time together – especially after Black’s recent transformation and Miri getting rid of some of the evil in the world (including her uncle Charles). But the time in Hawaii is not going as she planned – especially when within the first full day a part alien body washes up on the beach. An old friend of Black’s asks them to investigate and they feel they have to even though they also have to contend with the paparazzi which stops them blending in with the other wealthy guests. Everything escalates when some turn up alive as they discover something much more sinister at work with Miri in the crosshairs. Can they find a solution and come out of this without a PR disaster?
This was a great story in the series that investigated the difficulties that Quentin Black was experiencing after his transformation in the previous book as well as the fallout from Miri’s actions with her uncle Charles. I loved the twist near the end of the story when it appeared that Charles had brainwashed people into believing the opposite of the truth and Black’s final solution was a masterstroke – I just wonder what the fallout will be in the next book and it that will cause the seers to leave in this series just like they did at the end of the Bridge and Sword series. I won’t spoil the surprise but it will cause you to gasp and wonder if he has lost his mind. Well written and very enjoyable I couldn’t put it down until I had finished it (although I had felt bereft at the fact that it was complete too). You do not need to have read the previous books in the series but you will enjoy it far more if you have as you will understand the backstory.
