From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Penn Cage series comes a gripping World War II thriller that “vaporizes almost every cliché about the limits of the genre…[it’s] good enough to read twice”(Kirkus Reviews). It is January 1944—and as Allied troops prepare for D-Day, Nazi scientists develop a toxic nerve gas that will repel and wipe out any invasion force. To salvage the planned … invasion force. To salvage the planned assault, two vastly different but equally determined men are sent to infiltrate the secret concentration camp where the poison gas is being perfected on human subjects. Their only objective: destroy all traces of the gas and the men who created it—no matter how many lives may be lost…including their own.

I have never been disappointed in a book by Iles.
Excellent WWII read.
I have read just about all of his books thus far and enjoyed them all
Gut wrenching brutal fictional telling of a dark period in history. Difficult to believe mans inhumanity to his fellow man. Yet it goes on today and people shake their heads and say their glad its not happening to them.
Black Cross, a secret plot , planned by a manipulative Scottish Brigadier General, and carried out by a Jewish guerilla soldier and a pacifist American doctor is taut and heart racing. With a backdrop of World War II, from beginning to end, Isles keeps you on the edge of your seat. Vivid characters, page-to-page twists and turns make this one of Isles’ best. Don’t miss it.
It is good but not like most of Greg’s books.
Very ntense!
This book was long and drawn out. Not the kind of book you read more than once.
I have all of this author’s books.
Excellent book! I wish Greg Iles would write more like the “Black Cross” and “Spandau Phoenix.”
I truly could not put this down until finished. The characters were interesting as their lives intertwined. Fast paced and informative until the end.
This is a fine historical novel set during the later years of WW II. The characters are compelling, complex and empathetic. There is an in depth examination of pacifism, xenophobia and military ethics (if you don’t see the word as oxymoronic). I believe some of the “history” is stretched but it doesn’t hinder the read which is fast paced, exciting and enjoyable.
Black Cross is one of my all-time favorite books. I read it a long time ago and recently re-read it (something I rarely do). Half way through the book I thought “This is really good but not quite as fantastic as I remembered.” Thirty pages later I thought, “Oh yeah. This is as great as I remembered.” A great story, wonderful characters, and a satisfying ending.
I love Greg Iles writing. It was so different from his other books. Excellent.
It was ridiculous. I love Gregg Iles but skip this one
Very fast-paced. Exciting—I read until late in the night.
I found all the characters very interesting, and the story compelling. However, it did seem to drag on for a very long time during the invasion of the camp, and way too much seemed to be happening for the length of time it was supposed to be. I enjoyed the way the tale unfolded using the rabbi telling a man about his grandfather during the war. 4.5 stars
I really liked this story. Interesting plot and storyline about a sad but truly possible situation.
I highly recommend this book. I have read several of
Greg Iles books. He is always easy to understand and you never know what is going to happen next. He gives a lot of facts among his fiction that is an excellent source of learning. If you like Historical Fiction you will love this.
Heart stopping read
