Sixteen years ago I made a terrible mistake… evidence of an old enemy back from the dead.
I have to solve this mystery before I lose my childhood love again.
I won’t make the same mistake twice.
“Black” is an explosive, heart-pounding, romantic thriller, Book 8 in the Underworld series. It’s a standalone novel complete with HEA, and no cliff-hangers. It contains steamy scenes for mature readers only.

OMG! What an absolutely amazing read that sucked me in from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down until I read the last word. There are great twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved Byron Black and his attraction and undeniable chemistry with childhood friend Holly Summers, London’s hottest political adviser, when they reconnect at his sister’s wedding. If you enjoy an explosive, heart-pounding romantic thriller, don’t miss “Black” book two in the must-read Colors of Crime series by gifted author Sophie Lark. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Book Sirens and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I am so gals that Black got him own book! Ive loved him since I first met him in Anton’s book. He is such a strong character, and he’s been through so much. I’m so so happy that he got his happy ending with Holly.
Super thriller!
I’m not sure how much I can say without ruining it. Black gets roped into investigating a new crime that he has ties to in his past.
Great detective work! Great read!
I received a free book and the views and opinions are my own. I have waited so long to read Black’s story, ever since I read Sapphire and Lex almost ruined him. So glad the author found him someone who loves him. Holly is perfect for him. In this book Black comes back for his sister Andrea’s wedding and he is asked to help out a senator who is getting bomb threats from a group that Black tried to stop when he first started as a police officer. There are many twist and turns and secrets. A really good read, loved it. Would recommend this book. Now I am going to start Violet’s story, she is Black’s baby sister. I am really enjoying the Bratva stories.
Fast-paced stand alone story
Black is a stand alone story with a lot of action. The focus seemed to be more on the mystery and less on the relationship. There were some steamy scenes, but the relationship happened really suddenly so it didn’t really have a romance feel to it. It would have been nice to have either built a more extensive foundation for the relationship, or to just skip the relationship and focus on the thriller part.
I received a copy of the book at my request, and the opinions here are my own.
Loved the book! More angst in this one than the previous book sapphire. You have Byron Black, who you met in sapphire after chasing after Lex for years only to lose her to Luca. This book he is back in London trying to find his place. Getting sucked into mystery and intrigue surrounding an up an coming politician who he has a horrible past with. Loved the relationship with him and Holly. It seemed easy and since the heartbreak in sapphire Byron deserved happiness. He is a good guy and always looking out for others. Love his relationship with his sisters. It’s adorable. Can’t wait for violets book!
Bryon Black; White Knight.
Bryon Black returns to England to Scotland Yard. He is recovering from his rejection by Alexa Moore in Rome, Italy. Bryon is invited to his sister’s Andrea’s wedding where he reunites with his childhood friend Holly Summers. Holly offers Bryon a job to be a bodyguard to Tom Morris. He is a young politician who is an advocate of the environment. He is being threatened by an outside force that wants to stop him and his policies. Will Bryon Black protect Tom Morris and stop them in time before the election? I loved this. I don’t care that I’m probably reading this all out of sequence.lol. This book was entertaining. It was action-packed. I kept turning the pages to see what would happen next. This is the second book where I didn’t glance at my reading progress percentage on my Kindle, impatient to finish the book. Lol. This was a fast-paced, short, adventure. The romance was hot and romantic. The dialogue was crisp sharp and funny. I love how Holly convinces Bryon to be Tom’s bodyguard. I’m a sucker for friends- to lovers romances. I have now read three books by this author and will read more. I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book from BookSirens.com and I am leaving this review voluntarily. My thoughts are my own.
BLACK, A Friends to Lovers Romance (Color of Crime Book 6) by Sophie Lark
This is a thriller, a roller coaster of twists, turns, intrigue, suspense and a flat out good read. I was very glad to see Byron Black get his woman, Holly after the last story he was in. They are a great couple. This is a 4 star read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Black is an entertaining romantic thriller. It is the second in the Colors of Crime series by Sophie Lark but can also be read as a stand alone book. The novel moves along at a steady pace and makes you interested in the characters. In this book, Byron Black goes to his sister’s wedding and becomes reaquainted with a childhood friend, Holly, who grew up in the same neighborhood he did. She is now a top political advisor for Tom Morris who’s name he recalls from a case 20 years before. Tom’s mother had been killed in front of him by a bomb when he was 10 years old. Black had been a rookie cop at the time and had saved everyone, with the exception of Tom’s mother. The bombing was done by an extremist group named Citizens One who at the time they believed they disbanded. Holly request that Byron serve as security for Tom who’s now a politician and environmentalist. He declines but takes on an ancillary role. As Bryon and Holly spend more time together things begin to heat up, in more ways than one. A good novel full of explosions, mystery and romance. I received an ARC from Booksirens in exchange for my honest and voluntary review. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This series has me hook, line and sinker. This book takes place about two years after Sapphire. Black has been doing so well that he is able to take some time off and move back to London to be closer to his family. Andrea is is getting married to Black’s friend and previous co-worker, Vincent. Violet is a struggling singer who wants to live her life on her own terms. At the wedding, Black reunites with a childhood friend, Holly. Holly works for Tom Morris, an up and coming political star, who is in need of a body guard after a mail bomb arrived to his office.
This book keeps you engaged from beginning to end. Readers will be enthralled with the possibility of a love story and the definite mystery. Can Black find out who is out to get Tom Morris before it is too late?
I’m heading on to the next book in the series. I hope I was able to entice you to come with me on this journey.
A romantic thriller with twists and turns and dynamic chemistry. Detective Byron Black has returned for his sister’s wedding and reconnects with an old childhood friend. He is now an independent contractor and is hired to investigate a series of bombings and protect a political figure that he has had a history with. Suspense, intrigue, and the edge of your seat action makes this a great read. I received this from BookSirens and voluntarily give my review.
Black by Sophie Lark
Holly’s boss, Tom Morris, a rising political star, wants to hire a well- known ex-cop, Detective Byron Black, to be part of his security team. What if this well-known ex-cop is a childhood crush? Holly’s boss is receiving threats and bombs are exploding at events as well as his office. Who is behind these threats? Black is determined to find out. These are all too reminiscent of the bomb that killed Morris’s mother, Gemma, several years ago. A case that has haunted Black every day since Gemma’s death. ? Is Black getting too close to the truth? Can Black figure out the connection between the cases and protect Holly at the same time? Enjoy this book as you match wits with the bomber and Black.
This is the second book in the Colors of Crime series, but can be read as a complete stand alone.
Byron Black is asked to work security for Tom Morris a politician who is being targeted by a radical group during his campaign.
Holly is an old neighbor of Black’s that he runs into at his sisters wedding, and she works for Tom.
Black and Holly reconnect right off, and have a lot of chemistry. I really liked them together. They had some really hot scenes.
I did not like the writing style in this book at all. One sentence would be Black’s POV, and then the next sentence would be Holly’s POV. It got confusing at times, especially with it being written in 3rd person too.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a suspenseful second chance
I received a free copy via Booksirens, and I am leaving a voluntarily review
Byron Black has a mystery to solve. And he also gets reaquanted with someone he has not seen in awhile, Holly. Holly is working for an MP and Holly needs Byron to help discover who is behind the threats against her boss. This book is romantic and suspenseful, but it also has a bit of humour. Like the previous book in the series, this book is a standalone, there are characters in common. But I did not feel like I would miss anything important had I not read Sapphire. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
I’m so happy that Black found his HEA after everything in the first book!
This book will keep you turning pages with great writing, suspenseful storyline and amazing characters. It might not be that hard to figure out the plot twist, but author’s storytelling will definitely keep you engaged.
Byron Black is my favorite character in this series and I was glad he found Holly. She was sweet but also strong character. However I have to say, compared to the couples in other books in this series, I didn’t feel such strong chemistry between them.
Overall, great addition to this series and another enjoyable read from this author!
I received a copy of this book from BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This is a thrilling addition to the series, and I advise readers to read this series in order. Lots of action and suspense in this steady-paced book. The two main characters have amazing chemistry in this thriller with romance. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Do we really know what we think we know? Intriguing, suspenseful novel. Love the cover!
This was a gripping, well-written, page-turner that had a twist at the end. Loved it. Just as Ms. Lark leads us in one direction, you, as an astute reader, may get the hints placed before you.
We open with a 22yo Police Constable Byron Black who is headed out on a hostage event. In a fool hardy but brilliant move, he almost saves the day and becomes the new “darling” of the force until… Fast-forward 16 years later and we find a much different Black. After other tragic events, he’s jaded, sometimes morose and currently living in a nice, but empty apartment. He and his two sisters grew up in government housing so this doesn’t bother him at all. At least now he doesn’t have to worry about his drugged-up mother and her boyfriends. By happenstance he meets an old friend from those days, Holly Summers. From then on things begin to happen but can you believe everything that you see?
This was such a good book. Loved the meet-cute after so many years and that first kiss! I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens and it comes highly recommended for readers who enjoy mystery with their romance.
Black is the second standalone book in the Colors of Crime series, but I would suggest reading these books in order to get the full experience of Byron Black. I was so happy to see that this author wrote Black’s story after meeting him in Sapphire. These are excellent romantic suspense novels with twists and turns that keep you guessing and wondering throughout. Mystery, intrigue, danger and combustible chemistry between two very likeable characters. Can’t wait to read Violet’s story next! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC via Booksprout.
A thrilling storyline with twists and turns along with intriguing characters. Who doesn’t love a hero and Bryon Black is sensational along with his childhood friend, Holly. This is a new author to me and I really enjoyed this thriller but you need to read the first book. That’s the only downside to this one but I do love serials so I’ll have to read the first book. Well written with suspense, intrigue, danger, bad guys and a romance between two fabulous characters in Bryon and Holly. I look forward to the next story in the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An engaging romantic thriller
“What if…” – that is the question which still plagues Byron Black’s mind ever since the day he made that fateful impulsive decision during a hostage-taking and terrorist-bombing situation as a young rookie police constable. A woman from his childhood pulls him into investigating threats to a popular politician, the very same boy he had saved so long ago. With strong ties to the past in many regards and various twists which increase the suspense, this was an engaging romantic thriller from a new author I look forward to reading more stories from!
