Sometimes I’m lucky and the second book in a series is good, as good as the first. Sometimes I’m not lucky.
Bitter Sweet Hell blew away any hesitation I had. Alex once again continued to deliver a dark revenge filled story full of hidden pasts and bad guys… Very, very bad guys and a love story. We get more of a look into Judge’s life and Emo as well and sweet Mercy, if Emo doesn’t just flay your heart wide open… I don’t know what will.
So Eden and JW were phenomenal together. He’s a bit of an alpha. She’s a strong women who isn’t too stupid to ask for help. I enjoyed reading their story, though the flash backs break my heart and make my blood boil in equal measures. I really like that we aren’t inundated with Trouble and Remi. There story happened… This is for JW and Eden.
I wish I knew how to do justice to a book review without huge spoilers. But truly, you’ll thank yourself if you read Bitter Sweet Hell.
Oh dear! I thought Trouble was it for me, but in walked JW. This man with a dirty mouth and straight shooter attitude, had me reeling. This is the man for me! What a lucky girl to be Gypsy.
From the moment that Gypsy strolled into town and JW set his eyes on her, he knew he was in trouble; his heart, at least. JW wasted absolutely no time in going after what he wanted. And it was her. A free spirited, flowy skirt and bangle wearing, red headed goddess. His Gypsy. Knowing that troubled life was following her, JW set up to protect her, until all was safe. Of course, that included his brothers; Trouble, Judge and Emo. These bad boys love and love fierce. I know for sure I would want them on my side and hell, they’re easy on the eyes!! This book has so much depth and feeling in it, so be prepared. Grab your tissues … some of their past (and current) comes about and it’s hard in parts, but you get to know why and how they have become the men that they are. Alex Grayson likes to pull on your heart strings, but then she eases you back into a HEA.
Bitter Sweet Hell is the second book in the AMAZING Hell Night series and I can’t wait for Judges book, next!!
This books is intense in ways only Alex Greyson can give us as readers. Such trauma, abuse, and love all wrapped into this book. As we learn more about the brothers and what they went through, we see these women crumble their walls. And this story is no different. Except this time, both sides has their walls crumble for the other. I can’t wait for more from this series.
Back in Malus & JW pulls a speeding car over not realising his life is about to change again & for once its for the better . Alex Grayson brings all our friends from Trouble in Hell , the first in this series , to help protect Eden from her vicious ex boyfriend who think she has something of his that he wants very badly & he doesn’t care who he hurts to get it .A story that will rip your heart out in parts & then get your knickers wet with the hottest of scenes , can’t wait for book three in this series of books that can be stand alone’s but so much better read one after the other.
This series will push your moral limits then give you a shove for good measure. JW’s story is heartbreaking and disturbing but he doesn’t let that define his life. He and his brothers moved past their horrible childhood to be better men. Eden comes flying into JW’s life and turns it upside down and sides. Chased into JW’s arms by a dangerous man that has set out to hurt her. The brothers band together to protect her and she falls for JW in the process. Their chemistry is off the charts hot. Their story will have you on the edge, with the twist and turns but when it comes to an end your left thinking HOLY BALLS. I would recommend this to anyone that likes the darker side of love.
It is books like Bitter Sweet Hell that make you wish there were more stars! Alex Grayson hits it out of the park, again, with round two in her Hell Night Series! Bitter Sweet Hell is full of danger, heartbreak and heat, all the best ingredients for a major win for me.
With book one I struggled reading it a bit. The whole concept was super twisted to me and made me feel things I wasn’t sure I wanted to feel. I still don’t. But knowing the back story made book two easier. It is still super tough to read but I just knew at the end of the day the good guys were going to win.
This story is about JW and Eden. They meet the typical way you would think the Sheriff would meet someone…with a traffic stop of course. But there is just something about her and her situation that makes JW decide to bring her home to Malus…where they don’t like outsiders.
I loved the way that Eden fit into this group. It was seamless. Like she had always been there. The heat between her and JW was literally toe curling and this story was non stop from word one. I didn’t put it down at all. Well except once. To wipe some tears from my eyes and then send a message to the author indicating my displeasure at something between page one and the end. Hmph. Not sure anyone will forgive her for that stunt.
Anyways…this story was amazing, this series is making my top 5 of 2018 and 2019 and it’s not even done yet. If you haven’t read anything by Alex Grayson yet…shame on you. Go. Go now and start. You will not be disappointed by her stories.
Bitter Sweet Hell gets all the stars from me.
A whole new level of Hell has come to Malus
Bloodier – Darker – More Delicious
This is book two in the Hell Night series
This is JW’s story and if you are not familiar with this series might I suggest you begin at the beginning.
Though Bitter Sweet is a whole lot darker and definitely carries the reader boldly into the thriller/horror category it also (IMO) provided a lot more of the background and foundation for this series.
Be prepared, this one pulls at the heartstrings. JW IMO is right below EMO with regards to the physical horrors and psychological trauma experienced during their childhoods. I do wish we were given a closer look at JW emotionally – His character is a strong presence and easy to attach to, he is a sweetie, but I wanted something from him that I felt was lacking – honestly not sure what but I felt something was missing
Eden is running from her ex who believes she has acquired something that she should not have – And ends up directly in JW’s path. These two combust from the beginning.
Eden is a bit naive or maybe she just chooses to only see the good? Probably the later, she is so trusting and has the biggest heart. My heart broke for her, she was so torn between doing the right thing yet keeping herself protected. There were some twists in this one that definitely left me shattered others tested my boundaries.
Again – this is book two in the series I strongly recommend reading book one first
Bitter Sweet is an in your face graphic story – heed the warning – if you do not normally read true dark thrillers/horrors and romances or you are in any way squeamish when it comes to blood, death, torture etc, might I suggest you choose a different series?
For those who enjoy the darker side of reading –
Welcome to Malus
Welcome back to Malus, Tx where once again a stranger has come to this little town. Only this time Alex Grayson shows us JW and his past. We see the one woman who will bring love to him in a way he has never felt before. All his life love is bad yet with Eden he is seeing that what he had was not real love. Alex Grayson shows us that there is some questions from their past unanswered and troublesome. All in all I loved reading JW but cannot wait for Emo and his story. The way Alex Grayson brought up this story once again will be uncomfortable yet worth reading. Alex Grayson is definitely the one to read right now full of betrayal, lies and a love so surreal it’s hard to believe it might exist for JW.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
Bitter Sweet Hell will definitely take you on a twisted ride through a very dark Hell. This is the first book I’ve read in this series and I absolutely loved it. It’s full of everything dark and twisted that I love but also mixes in hot steam and some taboo in there too. I will definitely be following this series. Here is my review of this beautifully written dark hell.
Malus is a town that used to be it’s very own Hell for certain people living there. It’s changed now for the better, thanks to four brothers. But, their pasts still eat away their souls everyday.
This book is JW’s (Liam) story. JW is the town’s sheriff. He is a tough, very protective and rough on the outside guy who wasn’t looking for love. He’s never loved anyone, he loathes the word love. Things change in the city of Malus when an unexpected and uninvited visitor comes through.
Eden is running away from danger and stumbles upon Malus. There’s one problem though, she’s unaware of this town’s rules and they typically don’t let strangers in. She needs protection from the danger that she accidently stumbled into. Eden’s character is the opposite of anything dark. She’s a sweet, likeable and easy to love girl. The question though is, will the people of Malus accept her and can they protect her?
I’m having a tough time rating and reviewing this novel. Not because it was a bad story, it wasn’t. There are few things I’m reluctant to read about, especially for entertainment, and this book was rife with some of those situations. Bitter Sweet Hell kept me glued to the pages; I’m just having a really hard time reconciling everything I read. I decided to read this book without first seeing the cover, had I seen it I likely wouldn’t have picked it up as it gives off a steampunk vampire kind of vibe to me. I don’t feel like it fit the story at all.
Putting the more hideous aspects of this book aside, I found the primary storyline of Bitter Sweet Hell quite intriguing. I found Eden’s situation compelling and terrifying. I wanted to know more about JW and his history – even though what I found out was sickening. Watching them try to navigate their relationship while JW was trying to protect her and his secrets was interesting.
I keep vacillating on how I feel about Eden and JW’s relationship. I love instalove, but I wasn’t feeling it in this book. There were times when their connection and chemistry seemed amazing, but there was still a lot that didn’t feel right to me. I could see the beginnings of the foundation they were building and definitely saw the potential they had together, it just didn’t quite come to fruition in Bitter Sweet Hell, for me. I would have loved to see more of them exploring their feelings AFTER all the outside forces they were working against were settled, as I think that would have helped me to get on board with how deeply they felt for one another.
I have a couple of wishes for Bitter Sweet Hell. The first would be that it have another editing pass or two. There were several typo types of issues, but there was also some stilted language. The second would be that the ending not be quite so abrupt. So much happened in the last twenty or so percent of the book, that it was a little overwhelming. A little too convenient, too.
Bitter Sweet Hell is the second book in Alex Grayson’s Hell Night series. This books in this series are interconnected standalones and can be read independently. I haven’t read the first book and had no trouble understanding what was going on in this one. Bitter Sweet Hell is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Eden and JW.
I’m not usually the kind of girl who thinks books need trigger warnings; I feel like it spoils part of the plot. However, Bitter Sweet Hell dealt with some incredibly horrific topics, the worst things human beings can do, and I wish I would have known going in. It wouldn’t have changed my choice to read the book, but it would have given me the opportunity to prepare myself for the atrocities I was about to witness. Bitter Sweet Hell deals with incest, child sexual assault, evisceration, and animal cruelty.
Gosh…I have never had a book push me so far to the brink of my safe limit as this one did. Bitter Sweet Hell is just as deep, dark and twisted as the first book, if not darker. JW’s story broke my heart and at times made me wonder if could I get through it because of the real life topic that this series deals with. Just knowing that there would be some justice kept me turning the pages so I could see justice being served.
JW and Eden’s story was one hell of a ride, but so worth it in the end. I absolutely loved these two together.
Happy Reading Everyone!!!
The men of Malus have stories to tell and Alex is doing an amazing job telling them!
In Bitter Sweet Hell it’s JW’s turn.
After living through pure hell growing you up JW and his Brothers have created safe place for those who have been hurt or abused.
JW pulls Eden over only to find out she’s running from a dangerous man. He brings her to Malus to keep her safe. Quickly sparks flying and boy are they hot!
My heart breaks for the Brothers and the pain they endured at the hands of those who were supposed to love and protect them. While it’s dark and sad at times Alex writes the story in a way that you can feel the pain but also enjoy the love story and keep turning pages.
Wow this book. Where do I start. This book suppressed what I could have ever guessed. JW is such an interesting character I loved to get to understand him a bit more. Enter Eden into the story JW finds her when her life is being turned upside down. It’s interesting to see the Dynamics between the brothers and a newcomer that comes into the town. Because if the situation that Eden is in it brings harsh consequences to town. As things happen relationships change between JW and Eden. If you like books that are twisted you will like this.
This may be the beginning of the year but this will be one of my top reads of the year. This read is gritty, dark, and full of ugliness. From that ugliness rises something good. There was plenty of angst, suspense, and surprise along with love. There were plenty of moments that made me want to throw my kindle as I cursed the author. I also had my ugly cry moments.
I love this series and Ms. Grayson always writes a story that pulls you and crushes your heart. She then wirtes parts that help put it back together. It is a story that will gut you and then make you feel that there is redemption. As four brothers rise from their past they vow to make a future for all those that deserve it and make it hell for this who don’t.
Addictive is how i think of this series. It may only be 2 books old but no sooner had i finished this one I was already eager to devour the next one.
Bitter Sweet Hell held me hostage from the very first word and I don’t think it’s going to let me go anytime soon. These boys really have been through Hell. At times they still relive that fateful night, nothing and no-one will make then forget.
For JW it wasn’t only Hell Night he had to endure at the hands of his own brother, it was night after night, a constant living hell. Now all grown up and back in Malus as it is now known, he’s the Sheriff in town and nothing will stop him from protecting the innocents who live there.
Eden is running as fast as she can from a man she loathes. She’s running so fast that she pops up on Sheriff JW’s radar speeding toward Malus. After getting to the bottom of whats got her fleeing for her life JW finds he now has another innocent to protect.
This very well written dual POV tale may push buttons for some. It’s dark, twisted and even gory at times so may not be for the faint hearted. I however love those kind of books, always wondering whats coming next and just when you think you know, bang you are so wrong. The almighty twist in this book will hit you like a freight train and may even have you throwing your kindle.
I am hanging on by a thread waiting for the next installment in this sensational series.
Bitter Sweet Hell was a dark, gritty, suspenseful, and intensely riveting story that kept me glued to my Kindle and voraciously reading it through in one sitting. From the very beginning of this series the author hooked me with an unforgettable read that left my jaw dropped open more often than not and pulled at every emotion possible.
After the first book I wanted to know more about each of the damaged yet captivating brothers in this series. While I definitely have my favorite that I’ll be eagerly awaiting I loved getting to see another side of JW when Eden comes crashing into his life. The pull between these two and their banter had me hooked but when things picked up JW won me over with his alpha tendencies and the way he held nothing back.
Bitter Sweet Hell isn’t a book that pulls any punches. It’s intense, dark, and twisted yet admist those emotionally charged moments that hold your heart locked in a vise grip there is a beautifully unique and captivating story I honestly couldn’t get enough of. The protectors of Malus have burrowed their way into my heart and I can’t wait for the rest of the wild ride this series is sure to take me on.
This was my favorite so far! So so good! JW is charming as sexy and so dirty! I loved him! The story was really good and so well written. The story was also at times horrifying. There’s a reason why each book in this series has hell in it. All the men in this series went through hell and came out f**ked up. I loved this so much! The parts that were hard to read i got through but it’s essential to the story but once you get past it, you’ll love it as much as i did.
Bitter Sweet Hell by Alex Grayson was another utterly emotional, gut wrenching story in the Hell series. This series is so unique, I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like it before.
Once again the four brothers are back, Trouble, JW, Judge, and Emo. And once again they are laying down their own kind of justice!
This book was so full of twists and turns, and some heartbreaking times as well. I was on the edge of my seat reading it. I couldn’t put it down. Bitter Sweet Hell is wonderfully written. And let me say I was not prepared for this book to take the turn it did. Gah! But Alex Grayson done a Fabulous job with not only this book, but the series so far.
Bitter Sweet Hell is so dark so twisted, yet I LOVE it!! JW’s story blew me away!! I am hooked on these characters!! And I’m sooooo looking forward to Judge’s story next!!!
The second book in the Hell Nights series is blow your mind explosive, intense, and suspenseful. In fact prepare yourself for some creepy and free flowing violence. Honestly it fit the story and as it intersected with the deeply passionate romance, making it so damm good.
Boundaries are pushed for sure!
The suspense, the build up, the twists and turns nothing is what it appears. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
Alex Grayson’s books just keep getting better and better. I’m totally addicted and can’t wait to read more of this series.
Dark, twisted, mind blowing are just some of the words I would use to describe this book. It is not for the faint hearted.
