Bitter Roots (Book 1 of Bitter Root Mysteries) Murder in a small town is always personal.Dispatcher Zak Waller prefers working behind the scenes in the Sheriff’s Office of Lost Trail, Montana, but when a newcomer to the sparsely populated town is brutally murdered—and the Sheriff is quick to pin the death on an unknown outsider—Zak starts his own private sleuthing. On the surface Lost Trail is a … sleuthing.
On the surface Lost Trail is a picture-perfect western town, offering a simple way of life revolving around the local ranches and ski hill. But almost everyone has a secret to protect, and no one knows that more than Zak. He’s part of a younger generation hoping to revitalize the town. But evil has dug in deeper than he knows.
Perfect for fans of the British television film, Broadchurch.

I’m a new fan of this author and have bought the second book. Read it and it did not disappoint. Looking forward to the third one.
Love CJCarmichael mysteries. I never know til the end whodunnit. I like to be kept guessing.
Just finished reading this book. It’s a fairly quick and easy, light mystery. All the situations that needed to be resolved were happily taken care of by the end of the book. While there are more books in the series, this one is definitely a stand alone book. The editing was good, and the lack of violence and vulgarity made it a nice way to spend the afternoon.
Very good reading. Kept interested. Good writing and plot.
Will buy more.
Everyone needs to read her books. Keeps to the plot so you keep wanting to read until end.
Enjoyed story.
I read this book and got hooked on the series.
Fascinating!
I like this book and the second in the series. The biggest problem with this trilogy? I found it before book three has been released. So many unanswered questions.
Good read

GOOD READ, NICE TWIST, KEPT ME ENGAGED
Good read and interesting story. I also read book 2 in the series and cannot wait for the next.
An easy read: good plot.
I enjoyed this book so much that I had to purchase the next book and read it.
Really liked it. Characters. Were very interesting. Can’t wait to read next one.
Read it in one setting
I liked this book as I couldn’t predict the outcome. I read 3-5 books a week and there are times when the outcome is predictable.
