Bitter Roots (Book 1 of Bitter Root Mysteries) Murder in a small town is always personal.Dispatcher Zak Waller prefers working behind the scenes in the Sheriff’s Office of Lost Trail, Montana, but when a newcomer to the sparsely populated town is brutally murdered—and the Sheriff is quick to pin the death on an unknown outsider—Zak starts his own private sleuthing. On the surface Lost Trail is a picture-perfect western town, offering a simple way of life revolving around the local ranches and ski hill. I enjoyed this book. It was entertaining, good characters and a bit of a mystery and not totally predictable. There were a few loose ends but it is part of a series so I’m sure they will be solved in the next book.
This is a very good mystery. The 2 main characters, Zach and Tish are super.
Fun to read Montana story when you’re from Montana!
A great mystery.
The whole series is enjoyable
This book was very intriguing.
Loved the series. It goes in depth on several characters but it all connects to the mystery. Couldn’t put it down
Very unexpected ending…good mystery for sure. Loved it.
This was the first in a three-book series about the people in a small, rural Montana town. I found it to be extremely well written and entertaining. The characters were original and unexpected. I won’t tell you the plot, but what starts looking like a current crime, leads to an unravelling of details of the past that takes the reader into the past—recent past in this first book in the saga, which delves more deeply into the more distant past in the remaining two books. I loved each of the books in the series for itself, as each is a a complete story. I found myself saddened that, at least so far, there are no more books in the series to read. I think you will, too.
Unsuspected evil dwells in small, beautiful little towns where you grew
up thinking everyone knew everyone else’s business.
Can’t wait to read the next one in this series.
I like the back story of life in Montana as well as the mystery.
I really liked it.
I really enjoyed this book-good reading
I loved it!
Great book, I’ve read the first 2 books in this series and can’t wait to read the next one.
This is what I call a good read! Though the plot isn’t intense or unpredictable, it is smooth reading with realistic, likable (or unlikable 😉 characters, and logical police work. There are three other e-books in the series that promise to be equally good. C. J. Carmichael has obviously been around for awhile, judging from the number of books that he has written. I got this one for free, so I guess the publisher is re-generating interest in his writing for which I am glad!
I was immediately taken by the writing, the community, the characters, the story line – so engaging and a great mystery. Not the usual crime solvers which was great, and a very unexpected ending. Lots of twists and turns. A very fun, well-done read that made me want to read every one of this author’s books.
Really enjoyed the believable characters in this book
A good mystery with some unexpected twists. A good read.
