THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING OTHERWORLD SERIES. “Frisky…Tells a rather sweet love story, and suggests that being a wolf may be more comfortable for a strong, smart woman than being human.”—The New York Times Book ReviewElena Michaels is the world’s only female werewolf. And she’s tired of it. Tired of a life spent hiding and protecting, a life where her most important … protecting, a life where her most important job is hunting down rogue werewolves. Tired of a world that not only accepts the worst in her–her temper, her violence—but requires it. Worst of all, she realizes she’s growing content with that life, with being that person.
So she left the Pack and returned to Toronto where she’s trying to live as a human. When the Pack leader calls asking for her help fighting a sudden uprising, she only agrees because she owes him. Once this is over, she’ll be squared with the Pack and free to live life as a human. Which is what she wants. Really.

This is not your typical werewolf book. It’s SO much better. The heroine is fabulous, and wrong and broken and all the things that I really like in a leading character. Plus, blood and guts and betrayal.
If you’re expecting a romance book, you better check something else. While there is a romance subplot in this, it’s not the driving force of the story.
Well worth reading.
One of my absolute favorites
Always looking for a new series and I found it in this book.
Love this series!!! All kinds of twists and turns!!!!!!!!!
I was entertained, can’t ask for more.
Strong female characters
Reading is a huge part of my life. I read a lot, in my 50 years I’ve read at least 100,000 books. When I first read an author is linked to my feelings about that book. I read this one not of my own violation. My daughter was in the hospital and my Aunt gave me the first three and the first three of Kim Harrison’s Hollows series. I enjoyed Kim Harrison but I loved Kelley Armstrong. I read this more than 10 years ago, my daughter was 14, she’s 27 now. I hated this book, but I also loved Elena. As my beloved Aunt bought all three, as she was inclined to do, she loved sets, of course I read all three I loved book 2 and 3 unreservedly.
Bitten is brilliant, original, and full of complex characters. I’ve reread it at least 10 times. Every-time I read it again, I can’t believe I didn’t like it the first time. It’s just so good, but still not the best book in the series. This is a series that gets better with every book and short story. Fantastic world building and a roster of characters that keep it fresh.
I enjoyed the character development, especially with the brave female wolf. Girl power!
3,5 stars
It’s been a while since I buddy read a book with Jamsu. I have been hearing about this book and the tv show for some time, so when Jamsu told me that she ordered the book we decided to read it together! This time we read certain chapters every day and discussed them at night.
I had mixed feelings about the book. The first few chapters were kind of boring, because of all the information we had to learn. After that it was quite interesting! I was a little shocked with some revelations and sad with some of the deaths. I didn’t like some of Elena’s actions and her behavior considering Clay and Philip.
It was a pretty good book. I have the feeling that I enjoyed the book more that Jamsu, since she knew much of what was happening because she saw the tv show first. I don’t know if I’m going to watch the show soon but I’m certainly curious about what happens next in the series!
Interesting world of werewolves, their politics…action surrounding the pack and those that threaten. Some romance and heat between the main characters who love and hate each other… Quirky interesting read. Also made into TV series with a bit if different storyline.
Generally boring writing, plus a hefty dash of stereotypes and internalized idiocy. If you enjoy urban fantasy, skip this one. There are other (better) fish in the sea.
Great book! Great characters! Very entertaining!
She keeps me riveted.
The whole series was wonderful
This was the best of the series. I really enjoyed its fresh presentation of an ancient tale. I’ll read it again. Entertaining and fun to read
I’m a big fan of Kelly Armstrong’s writing style and characters.
This is the first in Kelley Armstrong’s otherworld series. Although It’s just a werewolf novel. It opens up a whole world for her to build on and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I have liked all the books I’ve read from her so far. Elena is sassy and Clay is broody and grumpy. Jeremey is an oddly passive pack leader, but strong in his own right.
Love all of her books, can’t beat the characters and worlds she creates.
Read this book in print when it first came out and loved it.
This original series is by far her best. I miss it!
