THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING OTHERWORLD SERIES. “Frisky…Tells a rather sweet love story, and suggests that being a wolf may be more comfortable for a strong, smart woman than being human.”—The New York Times Book ReviewElena Michaels is the world’s only female werewolf. And she’s tired of it. Tired of a life spent hiding and protecting, a life where her most important … protecting, a life where her most important job is hunting down rogue werewolves. Tired of a world that not only accepts the worst in her–her temper, her violence—but requires it. Worst of all, she realizes she’s growing content with that life, with being that person.
So she left the Pack and returned to Toronto where she’s trying to live as a human. When the Pack leader calls asking for her help fighting a sudden uprising, she only agrees because she owes him. Once this is over, she’ll be squared with the Pack and free to live life as a human. Which is what she wants. Really.

Urban Fantasy at its best.
By the time I finished reading this book, I wanted to run with the wolves. She made me see them in a whole new light. This was the first book I ever read of Kelley’s and before I was even done, I was already her biggest fan.
I always root for Elena and Clay to become the perfect alpha couple.
Amazing book with a whole different world of werewolves..
This isn’t a feel-good book. Being frank, after the first read through I wasn’t even certain I liked it. Yet, the book stayed with me. I found myself thinking about the characters and wondering what happened after the chaos of this story passed. That’s the mark of a truly masterful writer. She can write characters you’re not even sure you like (Clayton, who’s a bull in the China shop when it comes to romance), and yet you want to keep reading about them.
I’ve read and re-read this book. It only gets better. Kelley Armstrong
Welcome to the Otherworld that Ms. Armstrong has created for us.
well paced
imaginative
believable characters
Listed as a paranormal romance, but it was anything but romantic. Instead it was a non-stop page-turning thrill ride. It made me go back and look up the TV show and start watching it. In case you’re interested, it’ s on Netflix.
Read this year’s ago. Got this eBook copy on sale for the new tv series. This is part of a series with werewolves, witches and magic hidden in the modern world. Each book focuses on a different woman in the world. All of the women are powerful on their own and amazing together and with the men of the Otherworld. This is the story of the only female werewolf.
This book started it all for me. I am a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong and read everything she writes. Bitten has a great flow, not revealing to much to soon and leaves you wanting more.
The one thing that comes to mind for describing this book is that it’s professionally written. It’s been a long time since I read anything like this. This is not an author just writing down descriptions, events and emotions she think is fitting for the readers to understand (like I unfortunately commonly find in most books these days). No, This is an expert at making an entire world for these characters to live and adding her own style and flare to the story. While the storyline and the werewolf theme in itself is not unique, Kelly Armstrong knows exactly how to make it one of a kind.
While I at some points found that I got a bit bored, when the thoughts of the main character kept wandering for a few pages, I soon realized that that was a big important part of the book. It was a way to get to know and understand Elena’s past and her actions. To learn why she was the way she was. The more I got into the story the more I invested in the characters and their relationships. I loved that there were unique personalities and flaws, not just in the book itself but also comparing it to many other stories I’ve recently read.
I often find myself reading a story where the love interest is described as the perfect man, being compassionate to a fault, kind, hearing and in all other aspects perfect. While that is mostly what one hears women describing their dream man as, it is very unrealistic. In turn that also makes the books I’ve read unrealistic. Bitten, however, has the love interest in some ways as the opposite of perfect. Clay is like a real wolf with no problem to kill and not so much in contact with human emotions and human thinking. The fact that he has these flaws makes him much more intriguing, unique and in turn makes this book unforgettable. It is not only Clay, but also the rest of the characters that build this story so strongly. The common alpha for example, is usually a brute dominant with high fighting skills, but in this book the alpha is calm, collected, caring and relies on logical thinking instead of violence. We see him more behind the scenes making the shots rather than charging an attack.
This book, to me, is unforgettable for so many reasons, and it is in a good way. I have never seen a view of werewolves like in this book and I’ve never read a book with such distinguished characters. Allthough I wished there was a bit more romance and drama than shown in the book, I find this book not far from perfect. I can only say one thing. Kelly Armstrong is an amazing author!
Recommending first books in series that I love. Female werewolf? Yes, please! Bitten was the first Kelley Armstrong book I ever read way back when (supporting my fellow Canadian) and it would not be my last. Not by a long shot. I love all her Women of the Otherworld books, but Bitten holds a special place in my heart.
I really enjoyed the exploration of gender through the idea of the rarity of female werewolves. Not gonna lie, Clay is probably my favorite male werewolf ever. His Southern charm is so very compelling. At the time, this was a fresh take on were lore and I feel that it is still worth reading today.
Kelly took her time developing her characters and made sure they responded in situations she built around them with authenticty. A great “who done it”, wrapped in vampire fantasy.
After like a year I finally finished this. Now, I actually stopped reading because I was watching the first season of the show. I was really enjoying it, but didn’t want to get the book and TV show confused. But I’m glad I finally finished it, because it’s a very good story.
I can’t really describe the writing style, but I really liked it. Elena is the main character and the book is written in first person. Generally, I’m not a huge fan of first person, but this felt different. A lot of times it was Elena telling a story in a more removed way like third person. And it was a very gripping read.
Obviously, Elena has to be likeable and/or someone you care about to enjoy the story. I do really care about her and like her, but sometimes she made some decisions that bothered me. A huge part of her struggle is dealing with who she is and coming to teams with being a wolf. That’s a very interesting challenge and I liked reading about her journey. But cheating. Sometimes even I would forget she had a boyfriend and get wrapped up in Clay. But I still don’t like cheating.
One of the things that makes me want to read werewolf books is the pack dynamics. They often have great “family” interactions and this one was great. I love all of the guys and became emotionally attached to them so quickly. I think Nick is my favorite and I really liked his interactions with Elena. Their sort of like brother and sister.
I do have some conflicting feelings about the romance between Clay and Elena. I am super interested in them as a couple, but it’s not the healthiest of relationships. Their chemistry is great, but it’s also volatile which always raises some red flags for me.
Part of me wants to read the other books in this series. And if I’m being honest I probably will. But it might be awhile because I really like the show and I think I’m going to focus on that for now.
I love this series. One of my very favorites
The books were pretty good but the tv show was really really bad
I loved the book more than the TV series and I wish that the TV series was back on TV. I miss it a lot. I loved all of the characters. I read the book so that I could relive the characters that were on TV. Have fun.
Good story
Not your typical werewolf stuff. A great story, interesting characters, romance and the usual killing etc. I read many years ago and have recommended to friends. I read it again a couple of years ago still enjoyed it
Loved this! Different twist on werewolves, and I really enjoyed the book and how it was set up. Easy to read and fun.
