EmmaYou can do it.The last words my brother ever said to me.I’ve got one chance to prove him right. And nothing is going to stop me.Not even a tall, sexy cop, armed with a glare that melts panties.Too bad I don’t have time to go to war with him.Because I could think of a dozen different ways to bring him to his knees.I can’t afford to pay the price of failure. But the way he looks at me… Makes me … of failure.
But the way he looks at me… Makes me want to break every promise I’ve ever made.
Dominic
She’s a goddamn menace.
I want her, but some lines shouldn’t be crossed.
Nothing she says will change that.
She’s on a mission, but so am I.
And she’s my target.
We both know she doesn’t stand a chance.
But while my eyes are on her… I can’t see the threat on the horizon.
There’s only one option, and I’ve got to bite the bullet to get it done.
Emma Hayes doesn’t know it yet, but she’s mine.

This was a great book, at times emotional yet also comical. When Dom and Emma finally give in to their feelings only to be separated again.

Dominic and Emma’s story was amazing with all the feels and the storytelling had me riveted from the beginning until the end. I could not stop reading as it was a page turner and I devoured this in one sitting. The book started off with a bang and then it just took off from there including an unexpected twist. I really enjoyed the witty dialogue and banter, interactions with family and friends, heartwarming moments and sexy times. Dominic and Emma did not have an easy road to their HEA and they must bite the bullet to be together. Dominic is a panty-melting hero who will capture readers’ hearts along with Emma’s, who is a strong, feisty heroine who has a mission of her own. Also once again, Nox melted my heart with his actions and words. Another wonderful book in this series and I’m looking forward to the next one.
Heartbreaking and touching story. Emma going to the academy and Dom still in the reserves. He figured if he was in the reserves he wouldn’t be sent overseas. Emma’s brother, Danny, was a friend of her brothers and Dom and were in the same unit when they were active duty. But he didn’t make it home like everyone else. So when Dom keeps a secret from Emma, she doesn’t take it well. My heart went out to Bee, and I loved Nox. Excellent read. HEA.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I think this is the best book out of this series! I couldn’t put it down!
Bite the Bullet is the third book in the Birch Police Department Series and once again April hit it outta the park!! This is Emma and Dom’s story, and what they have to go through to be together. They have had feelings for each other for a very long time, but they don’t think the other feels the same way they do. Dom is also dealing with feelings of not being good enough for Emma, and the fact that Emma is his best friends little sister. Dom served with Emma’s brothers Lincoln and Danny, and now works with Linc at the police department. Emma is training to become a cop, and just to make things more fun and interesting, before she goes for 16 weeks of training she is part of the Birch County Police Department, and her training officer is…yep, you guessed it Dom!!! Dom is trying so hard to do what he believes is the right thing, but what does he have the potential to lose in the process? Dom is also keeping a HUGE secret from Emma, which is also part of the reason he’s holding back with her, but the chemistry between them may be bigger than both of them. Emma does actually find out what Dom is keeping from her, and she is heartbroken. So is Dom, but he tells her he is going to fight for her, she doesn’t want to hear it. There are some WTF moments that had my jaw dropping!!! Will Emma and Dom find their way to each other, will Emma forgive Dom? I can not wait to find out what’s gonna happen next in this series, y’all are gonna want to read not just this book, but ALLLLL the books in this series, that’s how freakin’ AWESOME they are!!
A beautiful romance between two strong individuals both a little wary of their overwhelming feelings for each other. Emma Hayes is from a police and Marine family and is determined to become a Birch PD officer. Detective Dominic Ortiz is extremely attracted to Emma, but serving in the Marine reserves he will soon be deployed overseas. Is it fair to ask her to wait for him? When he finally gives in to his feelings for Emma, do they have a chance at a future together? She has loved Dom for a long time, but when she learns that he delayed telling her of his mission, she feels betrayed. I love Emma’s “take no prisoners” attitude, her strength and determination to succeed and protect those she loves. Dom is a wonderful character with parents who have instilled in him the honor and duty that he lives every day. The love, the hot romance, the family involvement, the raw emotions, the hilarious dialog and of course little Bee makes this a truly wonderful read. Emma is one strong and determined woman who always seems to find the strength to keep moving forward.
Dom Is just as pig headed as he is driven and these’s two characters will have quite a long waltz around each other before they finally accepted what they each want more then anything.

Only my second novel by this author, and it has solidified the fact that I need to read more!
I do love police officer stories, and the fact that Emma was following in her family and brother’s footsteps, I just loved that.
I wasn’t sure if Dom and Emma would get an HEA, but you will be definitely rooting for
them!
Wonderful story!
Enjoyable story that follows Dom and Emma’s relationship, great characters and action filled story. Highly recommended.

Don’t let the cover fool you. This is not a fluff piece. It has some hot spots in it for sure.
The Birch Police Department series is a force to be reckoned with. The fact that April keeps me on the edge of my seat with the “thriller” part of the stories is what keeps me begging her for the next book.
And the real life situations are both heartbreaking and heartwarming. With a little bit of “crazy, wth, and omg” thrown in.
Bite the Bullet (Book 3 The Birch Police Department series) does best friends brother and first responder trope right.
Emma finds herself determined to make a difference. The sister of the fallen marine Danny and the police office Lincoln, she has the dream of becoming a police officer with the Birch Police Department and making a difference. Dom is best friends with Lincoln, an active duty service man and a detective with the Birch Police Department.
Emma has harbored feelings for Dom and was finally ready to make her feelings known, when Dom up and disappeared on her. In reality he was deployed back to Afghanistan and is only back in town for two weeks. Whereas Emma is determined to make her and Dom a reality, no matter his attraction and feelings, he does not want to make Emma wait for him.
Assigned as her training officer, the every day closed confinements, quickly weakens Dom’s resolve. With both of their families rooting for them, seeing their obviously feelings towards one another, will they be able to make it through.
4.5 stars
Oh how I love the Birch Police Department series by April Canavan.
Bite the Bullet was so damn good. Dom and Emma had to work for their HEA. But oh was it worth it. I will say the suspense element caught me off guard a bit. I knew something would happen, but I wasn’t expecting THAT. When it started, I totally thought it was a different person. But then when Emma said the name, it just all clicked together, and things we learned earlier in the story just made sense. It broke my heart. But I would like it to be known I didn’t cry. I held it together.
Loved the story. And April you had better give Nox and Bee a story! Nox made a promise, and I need to see how it plays out.
Bite The Bullet is another captivating and emotional story in the Birch Police Department Series. Emma and Dom’s story is one filled with witty banter, heartbreaking moments, passion, secrets and determination. Their story at times is intense and will have your emotions riding the highs and lows. These two have a chemistry that is electric and draws you in and gives you a connection to the characters and their story. A storyline and characters that draw you in and have you captured within the pages and held hostage by the words. An ending that fills your heart with joy and leaves you with such a huge smile on your face.
I love this series… and Dom and Emma were no different. Emma wants Dom’s attention and the spark these two have is undeniable. I was shocked at how slick Dom was trying to be not telling her he was leaving on deployment I really wasn’t sure when she got done with boot camp if she would figure him. Emma is so fiesty and I love that she is no holds bar and Dom knows that and he gives her what she needs even when she doesn’t know lol.
This is the 3rd book in this awesome series and is Dominic and Emma’s story. Emma is the younger sister of Dominic’s best friend, and these two have been attracted to each other for years without the other knowing. Emma is stubborn, feisty, and strong and is determined to pursue her dream of becoming a police officer, and Dominic is a sexy detective who is Emma is assigned to be with for 2-weeks before he is deployed back to Afghanistan. The chemistry between these two is combustible and undeniable. This is a well written flawless story which is emotionally charged with engaging and relatable characters, and is filled with family, friendships, witty banter, angst, unexpected twists, which leads to a humorous and entertaining read. I was hooked throughout this riveting and addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Bite the Bullet is my first experience with April Canavan. To say that I’m hooked is an understatement. This is the 3rd book in the series, although each book is a stand-alone. Not having read the first two did not take away from this story at all, however, I will be going back and purchasing those books. I am intrigued by the talent that Ms. Canavan holds with her writing.
This is the story of Dominic and Emma. Not only do we fall in love with the law enforcement duo, but we also fall for their families and friends. Everyone flows as a unit. They come as a package deal, and their lives and happenings only add to the story. I read this in a matter of hours because I simply could not put it down. Next up is Break It Down, Ian and Chloe’s story and I cannot wait!!
Dom and Emma have been dancing around each other for a year, but he has refused to give in because he still has deployments in the marine reserves. He finally gives in while preparing for another deployment, but makes a huge mistake. He does a pretty good grovel. Emma is a total bada$$, more than even her brother knows. Love them together.
I received a free copy of this book.
I really love this series. Angsty , humorous, and smoldering. This story is full of push and pull, laugh out loud moments and super sexy.
Emma is one bada** strong woman. Her brothers taught her well.
Dom is part of a large strong family. A police detective and a sniper. He’s kind of wishy washy about Emma.
You’re the most stubborn woman I’ve ever met in my life, you know that, right?”
The supporting characters added in make this a wonderful edition to this great series.
“Don’t tell anyone what I told you, or I’ll convince Linc we need to murder you and get rid of the body.”
It’s a adventure waiting for these men to get there act together.
I am so looking forward to the next book.
This my first April canavan book and it won’t be my last. This is Emma and Dom’s story. Dom is Emma’s brother’s best friend and they have known each other for years and have always had this spark between them. Emma is a rookie police officer and is stationed at the department where Dom works and to make matters worse, he is her training officer for 2 weeks. The tension between them is undeniable. When that spark between them ignites it’s explosive. Their story is beautiful, sexy, emotional and engaging . The storyline is fantastic. That twist at the end, I did not see coming. Cant wait to read the rest of this series.
Dom and Emma’s story will touch your heart and keep you glued to the drama. Emma is her own woman. She is strong, feisty, and determined. When things between Dom and Emma go south, she joins the police department and trains to become a cop like all the men in her family. Dom has always loved Emma although he fights it and when she challenges him he can’t turn his back. Will they get back what they had and do they have what it takes to go to the next level for a chance to find happiness? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
