This is the story of Catherine and Benedict. She was cast out of vampire society hundreds of years ago because of Benedict. When she sees him in the parlor of her brothel The Black Fan, what will she do? Can they reconcile the past and the present lives they lead? I enjoyed this romance that spans the ages. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An outcast vampire meets her first love and they may have a second chance at love together. I voluntarily received this book for an honest review.
A vampire courtesan is now a madam. She hares her story, having been cast out by her father, she was sild as property for over 200 years
Her crime was giving her heart and her body to a beau she chose, instead of the vampire her family chose for her
The vampire she was cast out over finds her, a critical fool, who at first fails to comprehend what choices Catherine had to make to survive and later thrive
A different kind of slavery and rebellion

I had not read the prequel to this story, but I still found this vampire second-chance love story very enjoyable. I loved Catherine’s perseverance, resilience, and strength. Thrown out by her family for loving the wrong man, she suffers for more than a hundred years before she finally makes her way to the top. Her love, Benedict didn’t have it nearly as hard, and I liked that she didn’t just forgive and forget when she sees him again. Benedict has to prove they belong together and that he loves her.

This story brings us up to date on Catherine and Benedict, separated 500 years ago when their secret relationship was discovered. As always happens, the woman, Catherine was shunned by society, dumped out on her own and left to survive or not with no one helping or caring about her. Catherine is strong and not only survived but lifted herself up to become a very successful Madam in The City of Blood. She also helps people escape the city through the “underground railroad”, so she is actually very heroic as well risking herself for others.
Benedict was allegedly searching all this time for Catherine. They meet again as Benedict enters the Black Fan (Catherine’s brothel). Benedict does have some attitude adjustment to make since his treatment way back then was not anything like what Catherine endured.
As expected with this author, the book was well-written and intriguing. The characters were strong and resilient. Will Benedict be able to accept the life Catherine had to turn to for her own survival? Will he understand why she had to do what she did? And if and when he is ready to acknowledge his love for her, will she forgive and love him back?
Wow, this book was way better than I was expecting! The characters were easy to love and their dialogue was fun and well-written. There was a bit of adventure and the story was well-written and sucked you in. Their romance was truly inspiring and I loved it and was impressed by the quality of the characters and the story. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, second-chance, paranormal romance!
When Catherine runs into a reminder of her past she finds herself on the horns of a dilemma. Who says reliving your past has to be a bad thing?

A second chance romance that will want you wanting a bite too! I loved Catherine and her strength and need to not apologize for the life she was leading. I had a hard time with Benedict at first but seeing as though they were apart for 500 years I could understand why he had issues with some things. Their chemistry was still there and I loved Catherine making him work for it without putting her needs ahead of his.
Catherine and Benedict’s is only the beginning.
I do not read a great many vampire tales but this is a Laura Greenwood book so I just had to pick up the arc. I do have a member in my household that does devour these kinds of stories so I let them read it also. What we both found was that this was an outstanding book Catherine and Benedict’s second chance love story was interesting. Catherine’s career choice as a lady of the night turned madam set the stage right off the bat. I loved the twists and turns in this gem and as usual, it is well-written. Ms. Greenwood is a brilliant writer. I highly recommend I hope you check the book out. I did receive a free copy of this story and voluntarily chose to review it.
For me some of it was great like helping others escape from a communist type of city and treating her girls like a friend and not like slaves. But the rest was a bit too dull for me. For a 500 year old vampire Kitty ‘ Catherine‘ is still ticked off that her father throw her out of his home for falling in love with a lower rated man, close to the death of the dawn and being a sex slave to madams for over 150-200 years… Then we got Benedict the lower ranked man Kitty loved finally finds her after 5 decades of searching for her… and never once found someone else…. kinda fishy or he’s very dedicated to her??
I always enjoy Laura Greenwood’s books and this is no exception. Very well written, great characters and a wonderful story world! I cannot say enough good things about these stories, so check them out yourself!

A great story. Truly a second chance love story between Benedict and Catherine. The Black Fan’s intro is fantastic, especially since I read City of Blood first and thought her character was great. In this book you can read the story of Catherine how she became a Madam and has become so strong, how she ended up in the City of Blood and introduces Benedict. Great Couple! What a story.

I love vampire stories. I actually read Drop of Blood from the City of Blood series before I read this story and was interested in finding out more about Catharine since then. In this story you find out why she became a madam and why she was kicked out of her family. The love story between Catherine and Benedict was awesome. It was a great second chance romance and lets the reader find out about the horrors that go on in the City of Blood. Can’t wait to read more about this world of vampires and what ends up happening in the City of Blood. I think Laura did a really good job with these world of vampires stories.

Good second chance romance with a plot that flows well and characters who are well written and distinctive.
This is book 1 in Greenwood’s The Black Fan series. after reading the prequel to this series I was excited to see what was going to play out. This is Catherine and Benedict’s story that has a unique and interesting storyline. Greenwood gives us a great paranormal, second chance romance in this read and it’s sure to suck you in…

Ever since I read the free prequel to this story I was very curious how it would continue. So, when BookSprout told me that there were review copies of this book available I didn’t hesitate and grabbed one for myself. And since the other book I had started today didn’t really grab me, I was looking for a quick and fast read that would give me a smile on my face and some reading enjoyment. Especially because with this book I officially complete the Goodreads reading challenge for 2020.
And the book didn’t disappoint at all! Of course I had already read about the City of Blood in the free prequel for that series, but it was nice to see a little more of the normal life within the walls of the city. Catherine is leading a brothel within the city walls and although Greenwood focussed mostly on the downsides of the job, she did acknowledge that there were also girls in this business by choice. It’s a hard line to walk and I personally think Greenwood did a good job with it. In this society a lot of girls simply end up in this job because they have no other choice and that’s not something to be proud of.
I also personally really enjoyed this second chance love story. I already liked Kitty and Benedict in the prequel. They had a nice kind of chemistry and it was sad to see them separated. However, that doesn’t mean this second chance romance was easy. They missed 500 years of each other’s lives and Greenwood really shows that something like that changes people and that in a way they have to get to know parts of each other again. I personally would have loved to hear more about Benedict’s adventures in those 500 years, but still.
However, the chemistry between the main characters is still there. Benedict might need some time to come to terms with the life Catherine is having now, but Catherine does make him work for her love and does make him prove that he loves her no matter what and is willing to let her live the life she wants for herself. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t challenge her on what might be possible and the moment he gives her something new to live for is wonderful!
I’m really looking forward to more stories set in this world!
I really enjoyed the slow romance of this book and the story of Cathrine and how she became what she is today. Looking forward to reading next one in series, though can be read as a stand alone

I have been provided with a review copy of Bite of the Past by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the brand-new The Black Fan series and this was a great start to a new series. I just really enjoyed reading this title. I just had a lot of fun with it and I just loved getting to see some familiar characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
Catherine has not seen Benedict since she was kicked out her den. She has gone through alot and has been a madam. She is surprised when she hears him in the City of Blood. Benedict says he has been looking for her for so long. He is happy to have finally found her. Catherine and Benedict will have a road to travel. You will learn more about Catherine and her past. You will learn why she is doing this job.
I loved this story featuring Catherine and Benedict, this story will draw you in as you learn about these two characters. I didn’t give out to much detail as not to spoil it for anyone. You will start reading and not stop until you are done.
