A great second book in this series We met Evan and Isla in Bishop Knight and this book takes off just about where that book ends
Isla is busy rebuilding her life she has lost her father he was killed in the bombing and she has also lost the one man she loved Evan has pushed her away after he was badly scarred in the bombing. She is trying to rebuild her fathers business but someone intends to stop her and when danger starts to circle her then Evan will
come from his forced exile to keep her safe. Can they rekindle their love and do they have a future together You will have to read to see. While you could read this book as a stand alone you will enjoy it far more if you read Bishop’s Knight first now I am desperately waiting for Bishop’s Endgame the third book in the trilogy
Evan thinks that being caught up in a blast has lost him everything. He lost his soone-to-be-business partner, his partner’s son and almost more painful, he lost Isla. Isla was one of the reasons the business dealings were going so smoothly. She and Evan may have been business partners, but it was their all consuming love that kept them burning bright. But Evan could not deal with the guilt that it was his fault that Isla lost her father and brother and he pushed her away.
Isla is still lost after the break up with Evan. She didn’t care about his injuries, she loved him and wanted him no matter what the outside package looked like. But anytime she tries to move on, something triggers a memory and she just can’t do it. But it appears that someone is not very happy with Isla and now her life is in danger.
Evan knows the only one he trusts to keep Isla safe is himself. But how can he do that and keep her at arms length at the same time? His jealousy is unseemly, he was supposed to be a cold-hearted a$%hole after all but that facade doesn’t seem to stick when Isla is around!
Isla is strong, steel-spined and business savvy. But clearly running her fathers business was not her dream job. Evam is calculating, ruthless and determined but also very vulnerable – with a wicked ability to bring Isla to the edge of sanity through bliss! She is no softie, she makes Evan work for every little crumb of trust – go girl!
Great action packed story with blisteringly hot passion. Evan and Isla are like a flame and gasoline, it’s all about fiery chemistry! I totally called it on the bad guy – well it was actually 50-50 but that’s close for me LOL. Now awaiting on tenerhooks for Ellis’s story
A riviting story! it is the second in the trilogy and very well done! It takes place not long after the first book and can be read as a standalone. This one tells the story of Bishop and Isla their ups and downs and the adventures of life. Isla is having a rough time with a stalker and Bishop ends up helpiong to keep her safe. A Good read kept my attention throughout now to wait for the next book in the set to see what happens.
Grumpy guys make terrific heroes. Evan is grumpy but still cannot resist the pull of love. His and Isla’s relationship is standoffish to say the least. As they work together to find out who is targeting Isla, they find comfort in knowing that they are there for each other. Oh, and the mystery was good. A lot of red herrings thrown in. You got me Ms. Reus. Loved their relationship and realization that they belonged together.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
Bishop’s Queen is a romantic suspense thriller that will keep you guessing. Evan Bishop pushed away his fiancé, Isla MacDonald, after a bombing that injured him and killed her father. But now she is in danger and he will do anything to keep her safe even put his heart on the line. I loved this fast paced story and kept trying to guess the killer (I was totally wrong) Evan and Isla were hot together and I can’t wait for the next installment.
4.5 stars
I was so excited to read Evan and Isla’s story after hearing about them in Bishop’s Knight. I was fascinated by the man who now felt like he was a monster.
Evan and Isla thought they had everything until a tragic event shattered it all. He felt so much guilt, anger, and self-loathing that he cut his fiancee’ Isla out of his life completely and isolated himself. And this left her heartbroken and also dealing alone with her own personal loss and business needs. So they are both still trying to handle the fallout and are still hurting and avoiding.
But a couple months later, their paths are crossing again. Evan realizes he made some poor choices and misses her. But he also still has issues with his self-worth, guilt, and feeling like he does not deserve her. But he wants her in his life in some way. However, she is not sure she is ready to deal with him again. But when she seems to be targeted, he becomes her self appointed shadow and bodyguard and it seems like he is giving her no choice.
Soon they realize things are going from bad to worse. There are threats and it is difficult to pinpoint the enemy or their true motivations. The story is layered with multiple possible antagonists, and I kept changing my mind as I worked through it. So it is full of tension, suspense, and danger. But it also deals with two people still trying to heal, reconnect, face their issues, and hope for a better possible future…if they both make it through this.
I liked getting their dual points of view as well as a bonus character…those parts made me study them for more clues. I really liked Evan even when he was trying to be gruff or distant. He was protective, loving, and self-sacrificing and wanted what was best for her. And Isla was strong and smart and just trying to get through some really confusing and scary situations. Their connection was believable and their hurt and need was palpable.
I liked seeing his sister, Evie and Dylan from the first book and some of the other side characters. I was glad that we got all the answers that I had questions about and that this was a complete standalone story. I am looking forward to their missing brother, Ellis’ story in the trilogy finale, Bishop’s Endgame.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
We first met this estranged main couple in book 1, Bishop’s Knight. Well, we finally get to know them up close and personal as they find their way back to one another. It doesn’t take long for Evan to eventually realize he’s made a huge mistake. His misguided, good intentions cost him the love of his life…Isla. He’s bound and determined to make things right and stay a part of her life again, in whatever way she’ll have him. This alpha protective hero steps up to the plate to protect his lady love when danger comes a knocking, folks.
Isla isn’t over Evan, either, despite how hard she’s tried to harden her heart against him after their sudden breakup. In fact, she’s still looking for answers to what happened. She puts him on the spot and against the ropes before giving him another chance.
You are kept guessing who the stalker is until nearly the end, despite several possibilities who pop up. I must admit it wasn’t my first or even last guess. That whole scenario was just a tad too much for me to take in and process, especially regarding the culprit’s seedy past.
All I know is Katie Reus knows how to write romance, folks. That’ what really matters to me and why I keep coming back time and time again to check out her new releases.
Title: Bishop’s Queen, Series: Endgame Trilogy (Book 2), Author: Katie Reus, Pages: 261, stand-alone but part of a series, second chance, celibate during separation, regretful, groveling alpha protective hero, some violence, romance safe.
Book 1 – Bishop’s Knight
Book 2 – Bishop’s Queen
Book 3 – Bishop’s Endgame
(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher/NetGalley.)
Bishop’s Queen (Endgame Trilogy, #2) by Katie Reus …Another winner for Katie.. Thanks so much to Katie, the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. This is Evan Bishop(scarred mentally and physically from a bomb that kill Isla’s dad) Isla MacDonald ( she doesn’t ant give up on Evan even if he has shut her out)…this is where their story picks up and it has it all .. murder, suspense, angst, danger, some laughs, tears, twists and turns, getting to keep up with old friends and some steamy stuff all to get us to a HEA. This book can be read as a stand alone but I recommend you read the first book BISHOP’S KNIGHT and I can’t wait for BISHOP’S ENDGAME Ellis story.
This book is a page turner, the story picks up where Bishops Knight left off and it answered the questions about why Evan had pushed Isla out of his life. They were the perfect couple and so devoted to each other until the bomb that changed their lives forever. Evan had withdrawn into himself and left Isla out in the cold with no explanation until she was in danger and he needed to protect her to keep her safe. Together they are working to stay safe and expose the person trying to hurt them.
4.5 Completely Addictive Stars
I devoured this book in one sitting. After having read and loved book 1 in the Endgame Trilogy I knew I had to have book 2 ASAP, and in keeping with my impatient nature, I am now desperate for book 3. I’m loving the Bishop siblings so much. Evan Bishop suffered a great tragedy in his life, and thus pushed away the one person he truly loved, Isla McDonald, breaking her heart in the process. Two months down the line and he still can’t forgive himself, or bring himself to even speak with Isla, until he finds out that Isla is in danger. He pulls out all the stops to protect her, but will she forgive him for the dreadful way he treated her? Can they be just friends, and is that what they both want? Wonderful writing, a great story full of action and suspense with a little sexy time in the mix. I was pulled into the story from the first chapter, fully invested in both main characters, and loving the push and pull they had going between them. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but as is always the case, it’s even better if you read the series from the beginning. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
When I read about Evan and Isla in Bishop’s Knight I literally cried. You could feel the pain Isla was feeling when Evan cut her off without a word. I’m glad we jumped right into their story next because I wanted to see them fixed so badly.
I’m not usually a fan of pushing away but this author does such a great job of showing how much the pusher loves the other that I can always seem to forgive them for the hurt. Evan is no different. Despite pushing Isla away because of his scars, he was so devoted to her. You never doubted his love and thankfully, you never see him with another woman.
On top of such a strong love that you get with these two, there is also the suspense that left me guessing all the way to he end. I guessed the wrong man to be the evil foe and that makes me love this more. I like when things are not predictable.
Great story, loved this couple and I can not wait for Ellis’s book next!
Evan is scarred when someone sets a bomb off in his building. It kills several people including Isla’s father. After he wakes up from his coma, he breaks up with Isla because he thinks he’ll be a burden to her. Isla doesn’t want to follow in her father’s footsteps but is determined to finish the deals he made before dying. When she’s mugged, Evan knows he has to protect her but after hurting her, she doesn’t want his help. After she’s poisoned, Evan doesn’t leave her side and the more time they are together, the easier it’s for Evan to see what a jerk he was. So when Isla is kidnapped, Evan will do everything in his power to get her back. Can Isla forgive him and move on?
Excellent story with suspense and romance. I love this series and can’t wait to read the next book. This story is like calgon it’ll take you away.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Once again, this talented author manages to capture our attention from the first page to the last.
We met Isla McDonald and Evan Bishop in book one. These two were engaged with a bright future until a bomb in a building killed Isla’s father, and severely injured Evan. Leaving him not only with scars throughout his body, but also with a sense of guilt. He breaks Isla’s heart when he sends her away and refuses to see her.
Both suffering from his decision, Evan changes his mind when Isla is in danger. But will be able to re-gain her trust, and love while also keeping her safe, or will it be too late to salvage a broken heart her keep Isla away from harm?
This is not only an action packed story, filled with twists and turns, whodunit, as well as physical and emotional scars . It is also a story about hope , love and second chances.
Not surprisingly, this one is another winner for this author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Bishop’s Queen
Evan is injured in a bombing and when he comes out of his coma, he pushes Isla away. Fast forward two months and he’s finally getting himself sorted, especially when he hears about a mugging which involved Isla. Now he will do anything and everything possible to protect her
Isla is finally at the point of accepting that it’s over between her and Evan. She’s finishing up the deals her father was making before he was killed in the bombing but now it appears as though Evan is making a reappearance and with all the other things going on in her life, she’s not sure she can trust him with her heart or that she wants to give him a second chance
This story was amazing and I literally devoured it in a few hours because I had to know what was happening and if Evan could win favour with his woman, Isla, again I’m just a romantic at heart
A big thank you to the publisher, Katie and Netgalley for my advanced copy which I leave my honest review and eagerly anticipate the next one
Another amazing read in this trilogy that has completely captivated me!
Isla is trying to pick up the pieces of her life after the bombing that not only killed her father, but that was the catalyst to Evan pushing her out of his life. When it becomes apparent someone is out to harm her, he now reverses that decision and is forcing himself back in. But the pain she carries from his rejection also carries distrust. What’s to stop him from leaving her again?
Isla, while not a kick tail kind of heroine, is certainly fierce, strong and determined. She is living a life she never wanted but loyalty dictates that she follow through. As the danger around her escalates, she may not wilt, but she takes comfort in the protection Evan offers her. Even so, she doesn’t forgive his actions easy. She makes him work to find a way back into her life and I appreciated that she didn’t just roll over for him with his first apology.
Evan has more than his scars to keep Isla away from him. But when he learns she might be in danger, he quickly reevaluates his decision to break things off with her. The fact is, she’s all that matters to him and he will do anything to win her back, even if all she will ever see him as is a friend. He’s pretty much my perfect hero with his desire to protect her above all else, as well as his tendency to feel jealousy when it’s not really warranted, and especially when it is. And holy heck did the guy grovel, apologize and work to gain her trust again.
As all of Kate Reus’ books, this is well developed with lots of danger, action and sizzling chemistry. From the first page, this book takes off and never slows down. Even as Isla and Evan struggle with their relationship and how to move forward, the tension is always present. I tried to pin down the bad guy from the beginning, wavered and moved to someone else, then someone else, and finally realized I had it all wrong the whole time.
This can definitely be read as a standalone, but reading book one will give you a deeper look into what Isla had to go through when Evan ghosted her. The next book is about Ellis and I cannot wait to find out what his whole story is.
This is the second book in the Endgame series and I did not read the first book so I was a little lost at first. Isla MacDonald was engaged to Evan Bishop but after the accident that scared him for life he pushes her away. Isla is attacked and that’s all it takes for Evan to realize he will always love and protect her. Ms Reus is superb at intrigue and suspense. After the initial confusion the action kept my attention and kept me guessing until the end.The love story was full of aghast and super hot. Now I need to go back and read the first book. I’m glad we don’t have to wait long for the last book to come out.
