Now a Netflix film starring Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, and Rosa Salazar!
Written with the narrative tension of The Road and the exquisite terror of classic Stephen King, Bird Box is a propulsive, edge-of-your-seat horror thriller, set in an apocalyptic near-future world—a masterpiece of suspense from the brilliantly imaginative Josh Malerman.
Something is … brilliantly imaginative Josh Malerman.
Something is out there . . .
Something terrifying that must not be seen. One glimpse and a person is driven to deadly violence. No one knows what it is or where it came from.
Five years after it began, a handful of scattered survivors remain, including Malorie and her two young children. Living in an abandoned house near the river, she has dreamed of fleeing to a place where they might be safe. Now, that the boy and girl are four, it is time to go. But the journey ahead will be terrifying: twenty miles downriver in a rowboat—blindfolded—with nothing to rely on but her wits and the children’s trained ears. One wrong choice and they will die. And something is following them. But is it man, animal, or monster?
Engulfed in darkness, surrounded by sounds both familiar and frightening, Malorie embarks on a harrowing odyssey—a trip that takes her into an unseen world and back into the past, to the companions who once saved her. Under the guidance of the stalwart Tom, a motely group of strangers banded together against the unseen terror, creating order from the chaos. But when supplies ran low, they were forced to venture outside—and confront the ultimate question: in a world gone mad, who can really be trusted?
Interweaving past and present, Josh Malerman’s breathtaking debut is a horrific and gripping snapshot of a world unraveled that will have you racing to the final page.

Better than the movie.
I thought that the movie was better than the book! That doesn’t happen often. The book was more gruesome. The characters were harder to visualize, and there wasn’t any romance.
loved this book. Keeps you guessing
Great Book… Very unusual…Hard to believe people would have to stay blindfolded for such a long period of time…. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
I liked the book but I think I would have given it a higher rating if I hadn’t seen the movie first. I found myself trying to make scenes from the movie fit what I was reading which was difficult in places.
Excellent read. Suspenseful ride!
I was on the edge of my seat through this entire book.
Didn’t like at all. Thought it was something childish that a kid would read.
Much better than the movie
Soooooo gooood
Nail bitting tension from the offset. These people are real. They’re your neighbors, to members of your church, associates in your town. You will feel for them with every fearful turn of a page.
I really don’t know what all the fuss is about. The premise of the story is way too farfetched even by sci-fi standards. While fairly well-written, it just wasn’t worth reading. The ending totally sucked.
Unlike any book I’ve read. Kept my interest. Well done.
It’s been done – a lot!
Totally different! Almost seems boring, but then you realize you’ve read quite a ways into it and you don’t want to stop. A bleak, scary premise, executed very well.
I love reading stories that are original. So many books just copy what has already been done. I won’t go over what the story is about. I’m sure everyone knows already. I also love books that never let you know what will happen next or that you can guess the ending. This book was definitely mysterious from start to finish. The ending made sense …
If you liked the movie, you will wonder why you liked it after reading this book.
When the unknown approaches earth, the only way to really protect yourself is not to look at “it”. What is “it”? Hopefully you’ll never know because once you see it, it causes you to kill yourself.
Although the main premise goes along with the movie, the story …
Was not my kind of book at all, the writing lacked alot for me
Hope the movie is better
