I was so excited that this series is finally in Kindle Unlimited. Though time travel romance is not my normal read, I do love this author so I went for it.
This is the love story between Tara and Duncan. It begins in modern day and ends in 1576. Tara is a lot in the beginning. She is a little on the whiny side about the vacation her friend has chosen for them. As she gains confidence and falls for Duncan, she becomes much more likable. Duncan is an all out hero. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure how they could make the whole deflowering virgins mission an honorable one, but that is pulled off by making it a way to keep the evil with from breaking her curse.
There are funny moments, steam, and suspense throughout the book. Fantasy elements are present with the witch, her magic, time travel, and the druid powers present with many of the characters. The couple has a HEA, though the underlying suspense theme with the witch continues throughout the series.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is written in third person from multiple POV.
I enjoyed this book but there were a few thing that bothered me! All the modern English spoken after they time travel to the past. There were no Turkeys in Scotland in the 1500s. It’s an American species. Did the author not do any work to check on little details?
Tara is brought to a Renaissance Fair by her best friend Cassie. There she meets a witch named Gwen who need a Virgin Druid blood to break a curse that has kept her in an old body. But two Druid brothers show up from the past stop her! Tara and Duncan have an instant connection. He must protect at any cost!
This is a little similar to Outlander but with a twist. Duncan MacConnich is from the 16th century in Scotland and Time Travels to the 21st century to break a witch’s curse. There is a lot of magic and romance.
I read the whole series and was surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I was I vested in the characters and would enjoy more like this.
I received a free copy of Binding Vows by Catherine Bybee for an honest review. I have never read any time travel books, and was uncertain that this is a genre for me. So I can honestly tell you that I was completely skeptical about the book and the entire premise of it, before I even started it. The characters, and setting grab you from the first page. Catherine is an amazing storyteller and to my surprise I soon found myself engrossed in the book. I could not put it down. Binding Vows is the story of Tara McAllister, a twenty five year old nursing student, and Duncan MacCoinnich. Tara and Duncan first encounter each other at a Renaissance Faire, that Tara’s friend, Cassy dragged her to. Upon checking in Tara and Cassy are confronted by Lady Gwen and soon are awarded luxurious accommodations, thanks to Tara. Duncan sets out to meet Tara and it is lust at first sight. Duncan tries to stay near Tara because he knows Lady Gwen’s, who is really Grainna, true intentions for Tara. After the festivities of the faire have concluded, and Duncan is awarded the victor of the games, there is a handfasting ceremony for Tara and Duncan. Only Duncan, realizes with the vows that Lady Gwen has them recite are real, that they are married for all eternity. He warns Tara of Lady Gwen’s intent and asks her to return to Scotland with him. She is uncertain at first and want Duncan to stay in Los Angeles. Duncan forewarns Tara of the danger that Lady Gwen poses, so Tara decides to join Duncan. Tara quickly says good by to Cassy and wonders how they will get to the airport. Instead, Duncan, his brother Finlay, and Tara, create a vortex with magic stones that returns them to 16th century Scotland. Unbeknownst to them Grainna, jumped into the vortex at the last minute with them and traveled back in time with them. Grainna schemes to seek revenge on the entire MacCoinnich clan. I love how the story unfolds with all the drama and Grainna’s part in it all. I love the descriptions of the setting and 16th century life in Scotland. The characters are all enjoyable persons. Everyone in the MacCoinnich family has their own special power, including. Once again, Catherine delivers her brilliant plot twists as well as many heartwarming and poignant moments. I love the surprise ending. What started out as skepticism on my part ended up being a thoroughly enjoyable story. I am looking forward to reading Silent Vows and I can honestly say, that I wasn’t sure that would be the case when I received the copy of Binding Vows. It was an outstanding story that shows that time and space offer no constraints to true love.
I love the MacCoinnich Time Travel Series!!!
Truely a captivating story. Scottish warriors, an evil witch, a virgin, a good mix of magic, a curse, an unbreakable marriage vow spoken without knowledge and just a little time travel, what is not to love. This story has it all a love story with suspense and just enough of a cliff hanger finish to make you want the next book without feeling like it didn’t finish the story.
