One geology intern who desperately needs to be rescued from a hostage situation. One billionaire who has the capability to save her life. Two people who are inexplicably drawn to each other even though they have almost nothing in common. Although this story is part of The Billionaire’s Obsession series, it is the first book of the California Billionaires and can easily be enjoyed as a … enjoyed as a standalone billionaire romance.
Taylor
Just when I thought I was destined to die in a foreign country after being kidnapped while doing a geological exploration, a mysterious rescuer shows up just in time to save my life. Unfortunately, my liberator also happens to be the co-CEO of Montgomery Mining, my employer, and a billionaire with an attitude. At first glance, Hudson Montgomery seems like the quintessential gorgeous billionaire with plenty of money to burn, and no concern for anyone but himself. The arrogant billionaire I could handle, but I wasn’t quite so sure how to deal with the amazing guy I discovered once I looked past the superficial exterior. The one who stayed by my side as I recovered mentally and physically from the trauma of being a hostage.
There was so much more to Hudson than just billions of dollars, a prestigious lastname and a very handsome face. When the white-hot chemistry between the two of us finally explodes, do I trust the man I’ve come to know, or do I accept that Hudson Montgomery is the same guy the rest of the world sees?

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Hudson Montgomery is used to being in control. He’s bossy, demanding and a caretaker. Rescuing Taylor Delaney was the right thing to do. She was kidnapped on his watch therefore he is responsible. What he doesn’t count on is being utterly captivated by this resilient woman. It throws Hudson for a loop. Taylor is extremely intelligent, resourceful, self-sacrificing and a survivor. This petite, red haired, green eyed beauty has a core of steel. She’s grateful to Hudson for her rescue but what she feels for him goes far beyond gratitude. She doesn’t want him for his money or the prestige. She wants him for just himself and that’s something that he’s never had in his adult life. Making her happy becomes his mantra. It’s the little things between them that add up to a big forever kind of love.
Love the Montgomery brothers
Love this series
Hudson and taylor grabbed my heart
intense emotional broken beautiful heartstopping love story
ready for Jax and Harlow
I have honestly yet to read a JS Scott book that I did not love, but all of the Sinclair’s are my favorites. Well Hudson Montgomery has just stolen a piece of my book boyfriend heart as well. He’s smart, determined, strong, brooding and just sexy as hell. Enter Taylor Delaney, fiery redhead intern kidnapped and in distress.
I loved how strong and determined Taylor was even though her ordeal was frightening and her life was dangling by a thread.
You can always count on a strong or determined heroine in a JS Scott book; and no good heroine would be complete without an alpha male. The chemistry was present from the beginning even though Taylor thought she might be hallucinating her rescue and rescuers, but Hudson stayed with her and took on the role of rescuer and protector.and eventually falling head over heels in love.
I highly recommend this book if you like steamy sex scenes, alpha heroes and strong heroines.
I love love love this book I would say it went to the top of my favorite books by J.S Scott. Taylor and Hudson story it’s amazing. From the trauma she survived to the recovery process that Hudson helps her with, to the different side of each other they revival.
Ok. Enjoyable read. Love the series. But again found myself skipping pages. Their relationship seemed dry. Something was missing, I didn’t feel the connection. Hopefully the next book has the romantic banter and hotness this one was lacking.
An intense and suspenseful.start to a story that is full of emotion, Hudson is strong, trustworthy and supportive after he helps rescue his intern. Taylor is amazing, so resilient and strong, determined to get her health back and grateful.for everything Hudson has done for her. I loved that they talked, didn’t let the other walk away from a disagreement, they figure things out until each understand what the other was trying to say. This actually felt very real and down to earth even with the wealth aspect, yes the money helped when needed but this was more about the characters and the sort of people they were, both in their own rights and together. I loved it. Started 2/4/21 finished 3/4/21
Not much of a suspense novel. It was a nice love story.
Enjoyed Hudson’s desire to take control of her healing from a kidnapping while she was employed as an intern for his company. Taylor was of very strong mind and will to overcome the kidnapping so quickly…but Hudson was determined. Both came to an agreement w/o much angst. Just a good love story. Hudson was used to giving but getting nothing in return due his name and wealth…so he was cautious at first. Once she showed him that she could give to him too, they found each other.
It was entertaining
“Thank You”, that’s what Taylor says to Hudson finally when she understands him, and Hudson gets some good advice, that you are only there as a back up when she needs you, as their women are strong and courageous. Intense story and Hudson feels responsible as Taylor was kidnapped and she is his employee. He is there for every step of her recovery and he just has to figure out how to take it further if she will let him. Total alpha, so the harder they fall, but it’s so worth the journey that you as a reader get to be part of. Loved this book and recommend it.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
I loved every word of this powerful story. Taylor’s strength and resiliency to not allow her life circumstances to make her weak or bitter was awe inspiring. I loved how Hudson was focused on always doing what he thought Taylor needed. He was wrong sometimes but his heart was in the right place so how could you not love him. For me the best part of this story was about the power of the human spirit. It was a great addition to the Billionaire series. Until next time y’all happy reading.
Hudson Sets Out To Find Taylor In A Hostage Rescue Mission, But Love Finds Them In The Aftermath! Hudson And Taylor’s Story Includes Danger In Foreign Lands And Patient Romance As The Couple Is Brought Together Under Extreme Circumstances.
This is the fifteenth book in The Billionaire’s Obsession series. Each book in the series reads perfectly as a standalone. Books one through five are centered around Tampa, Florida. Book six is a bridge between The Sinclairs series and this series, but it also shifts the series to Colorado. The series continues in Colorado with the Colter family, whose five children comprise books seven through eleven. In books ten and eleven, the Colter twins marry the Lawson sisters. After, the series continues on in Seattle with the three Lawson brothers. Mason Lawson’s newly-discovered cousins, the Montgomerys, then take over the series in San Diego. Their stories provide a bridge to The Accidental Billionaires series.
The books about the Montgomery family cross over with the series about the West Coast Sinclairs – The Accidental Billionaires series. Little sister Riley Montgomery, an environmental lawyer, has already found her HEA with Seth Sinclair, the self-made construction worker turned billionaire builder, in Enamored. Her three older brothers, however, remain available.
About the Montgomerys:
Mason Lawson, whose story was told in book fourteen, had learned as an adult that he was adopted by his father, and that his father had married his mother after she was drugged and sexually assaulted by his biological father, a Montgomery. Mason was fortunate to have been raised in a loving home by a father that loved him as his own. Hudson Montgomery recently learned of the family connection himself. He and his siblings have since connected with their newly-discovered cousin Mason, and the Montgomerys and Lawsons are already beginning to feel like family.
The Montgomery children had not fared better in terms of fathers. In fact, they arguably had it worse since they were raised by their father in a cold home absent of love. The children had all been gifted, and while Riley had been left home alone, the boys had been sent away to a private school for gifted children. Their mother was concerned with appearances more than her children’s welfare. The Montgomery kids suspect she knew all along that Riley had been the victim of incest, simply choosing to turn a blind eye. The news devastated the boys when the finally found out. Their father had passed on, and they had stopped all communication with their mother.
The boys each graduated with a business degree by age twenty, and all chose to go into service. Hudson entered the Marines and served in the Delta Force. Jax became a Navy SEAL, and Cooper was an Army Ranger. The boys enjoyed their independence and service in the military, but once they had discovered mismanagement at Montgomery Mining following their father’s death, they each left when their contracts ran out. Hudson had returned first and had already made great strides by the time his brothers joined him at the helm. Today Montgomery Mining is the largest mining operation in the world. Their cutting edge tech and research make them a leader in their field. The brothers now live in the spotlight as eligible billionaire bachelors.
After returning to the civilian life, the brothers didn’t give up on serving their country. They organized an undercover operation to help with hostage rescues in cases where the U.S. government cannot help. The government conveniently looks the other way, but if the veil of secrecy is pierced and Last Hope becomes known to the public, their operation will be forced to shut down. PRO, a similar organization that Mason’s brother Jett had participated in, had been forced to shut down following a helicopter crash that alerted the public to its existence. Last Hope is now one of the last places families and companies can turn to in a crisis, so secrecy is of paramount importance.
In this book:
This book opens about one month after the close of Mason’s in Billionaire Unattainable, book fourteen of the series. The Montgomery brothers have just taken unprecedented time off together – nine days – to help celebrate their cousin Mason and Laura’s wedding in Seattle.
Hudson Montgomery, thirty-four, works tirelessly at Montgomery Mining. He has a beautiful beach home in Del Mar that he doesn’t have time to enjoy. The women he has known are only interested in his name or his money. All his relationships have ended in disappointment, and he has given up on the idea that a woman might actually care about him. He enjoyed spending time with his cousin Mason and his family, and had left things under control at the company prior to leaving. He certainly hadn’t anticipated that management would fail to reach out to them in the event of a crisis, so he and Jax are rightfully angered upon their return to learn that three of their employees on an assignment in the Mediterranean island nation of Lania have been held for nine days by rebels. It was thought that the little nation had been rid of its guerilla resistance in the two years since Crown Prince Niklaos had taken control, bringing an influx of interest in the island. The safety of the mission had not even been a question. In their absence, the company had negotiated the release of Harlow Davis, but two remained behind. One male and one summer intern. Mark and Taylor. The rebels were notoriously brutal, and after nine days’ time the survival of the remaining two was unlikely.
Taylor Delaney, twenty-eight, is alone in the world. Although her childhood was tragic, it had her led to Mac Tanaka. Mac had taken her in at age eleven. He was in his seventies, and she and the older man made for an odd sort of family. He became her only parent figure. In the ten years she had with him, he had taken an angry girl and shaped her into the woman she had become. He taught her Tai Chi and chess as well as the Eastern philosophy that he picked up from his Japanese ancestry. She was taught the tools she needed to master herself and her emotions so that her emotions rarely got the best of her. Mac had encouraged Taylor to attend college, and she was ready to head off to Stanford when he was diagnosed with cancer. Taylor chose to delay her studies and instead spend every last day possible taking care of the man that had raised her. Mac died when she was twenty-one. In the last seven years, she attended Stanford and worked to help support herself as she completed her master’s degree in environmental geology. She snapped up an opportunity to intern over the summer at Montgomery Mining, hoping the coveted opportunity would help prepare her for the job market.
When Hudson and Jax personally go on Last Hope’s mission to save their employees, there is little chance of success. But Hudson was drawn to the redhead beauty whose picture and bio connected with him in a mysterious way. They share a lost childhood, though in different ways. Her brief story tells him that she is a survivor, and that gives him a glimmer of hope as he determinedly sets out to rescue her.
Hudson and Taylor’s story includes danger in foreign lands and patient romance as the couple is brought together under extreme circumstances. Taylor is brilliant and independent-minded. The control over her thoughts that Mac taught her proves to be an incredible shield as she faces brutal circumstances that would cripple others emotionally. The way she deals with her captivity and its aftermath inspire deep questions about mind over matter. Her sarcasm cannot be held back, and her sassy attitude takes Hudson completely by surprise. Her strength of mind, her selflessness, and her independence win him over almost immediately. Hudson’s protection and attentive care feel alien to Taylor, but it endears him to her as well. The couple faces issues of guilt and trust as they dance around their feelings for one another. The couple eventually earns their happy ending.
Jax’s story with Harlow follows in the next book in the series and gets a short introduction here.
For those following the ages of the Montgomery children, Hudson is the oldest and has just turned thirty-four. Jax follows at thirty-three and is ten months younger than Hudson. They all came back to back, so Cooper is roughly thirty-two and Riley thirty-one.
Hudson sets out to find Taylor in a hostage rescue mission, but love finds them in the aftermath. The story is well-written. The plot is somewhat complex. The characters are carefully crafted. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Hudson and Taylor, with one chapter in Jax’s POV. I rate this book 4.5 stars.
This is the 15th book in the The Billionaire’s Obsession series, and it’s unlike any of the others. It was emotional, cathartic and
Taylor and Hudson are brought together by a tense hostage situation. Hudson, Taylor’s employer, is also on her rescue team. They develop an intense bond during her rescue, and Hudson feels an immediate connection and longing. He wants to keep her safe, he wants to make this experience up to her, and he wants to give her better memories.
Taylor is not naive, but she is inexperienced when it comes to love and that kind of emotional connection. She also suffered much cruelty at the hands of her captors while being held hostage. But she knows in the depths of heart that Hudson would never hurt her. She trusts him before he trusts herself.
This was a very good listen. I loved that this had dual narration, with Brian Pallino voicing Hudson’s chapters. Elizabeth Powers is excellent, as she has been this entire series.
This Series has been one of my favorites each new piece is a different couple but they all are entwined in one way or another. When the story begins Hudson is having to deal with a hostage situation that his company has found themselves in. Taylor is one of the hostages in a bad situation that has her being rescued by Hudson and his brothers. They make a treacherous journey to meet the others in the rescue party and become well-acquainted on the trek. But, she is badly hurt and he brings her to his home to recover. Hudson feels responsible that she’s suffered and wants to take care of her. Taylor is able to find strength to start rebuilding her life slowly after what she suffered. It shows her resilience and determination to not let what happened to her be a factor she’s not able to get past but a stepping stone that paves the way to her future. This is book 15 but can be read as a standalone because each one is a complete story only focused on one couple. I’ve only read the first nine and had no problem understanding what was happening with this story.

Overall another amazing story told by the author and it gives us twists and turns that we gobble up wanting to see how things will play out for the couple.
I thought the book started out really strong with the rescue mission and subsequent recovery. I also expected Hudson Mining to delve more into why the hostage situation occurred at all. Were they the only US company in the region?
Taylor was truly resilient. I really thought she would show more emotional and mental residual effects from her trauma than she did. I could understand why Hudson was so hesitant. I thought it was good that they were able to help one another with their issues. I really liked the way Hudson took care of Taylor.
I thought that Mason’s secret (from the last book) would come out in Hudson’s book. It may have been mentioned in a round about way, but it wasn’t clearly stated.
I also wondered about Riley and Seth’s story. Did I miss a book? It was all laid out, kind of like we should know what happened, but I haven’t read it.
I listened to the audio version. I was very happy to hear a male narrator voice Hudson, Jax, and other male characters. I feel like it added to the book.
As usual, toward the end of the book, there was the lead in to the next book about Jax. That should be Interesting. Although the book started out strong, about midway through it went from romantic suspense to sweet romance. Nothing wrong with that. I just expected the hostage takers to turn up again in Taylor and Hudson’s lives. They eventually made it to their HEA. I also think it is better to read this series in order as the end of each book flows into the beginning of the next one.
I voluntarily listened to and reviewed this audio book provide via the author.
This is so much more that just a normal billionaire story. I do love a good kidnapping story and recovery. This one covers all the bases. Excitement of the recovery, sadness for what is done to victims, secrecy with family, action and suspense.
Hudson was great! He is not what I expected for a billionaire. He is not haughty. He is down to earth and dare I say a real gentleman? What he did for Taylor just made me like him even more. He really became a changed man with only one look at Taylor. Before he even met her in person his life was starting to change. Taylor is great as well. She doesn’t want his help. She is used to being independent so leaning on Hudson is alien to her.
I love these three brothers! They get along so well between working and family. I loved their conversations between them to help each other out in the love dept. As well as their bantering. That’s what help makes a wonderful series in my opinion. Good family and friends.
Overall this is a easy, wonderful listen. Great story and great characters equals a smashing book. I did listen to this on audio. Elizabeth Powers and Brian Pallino did a super job on the narration.
In the end, this became a very sweet romance, despite the way it began. Hudson rescues Taylor from rebels who kidnapped her while she was on a job for Hudson’s company. She’s near death when he gets to her, and since she has no family, he offers to have her come stay with him so she can get the help she needs to recover. Of course, he’s drawn to her, so there’s a little selfish motive there too, but he won’t admit that to himself….yet. But once Taylor starts mending, she wastes no time lusting after Hudson, even if just in silence. It’s not really a new story concept, but it still works, and it still has it’s own special elements, which make it a good read. I enjoyed the back and forth they had with each other. And despite her traumatic kidnapping, what holds them back from each other isn’t a fear of anything physical or even emotional regarding that. They’re tentative because neither really knows what it’s like to really love someone, and they have to just navigate their feelings in an organic way. And there isn’t a separate incident that forces them to finally admit their love, just an natural progression, which is a little different from some of the other billionaire books. It’s nice to see things change up, and still be emotionally powerful.
The audiobook version is fantastic. This is a first for this series, where there is a male and female narrator for the respective characters. I really enjoyed this change. The female narrator has always been great, and the male narrator was fantastic, just the right voice for the alpha male. I hope more books are able to go this route in the future!
5 Star Review Billionaire Uncovered: Hudson (The Billionaire’s Obsession #15) by J.S.Scott
AUDIO REVIEW:
Where do I start? Firstly there are parts of this book that may be a trigger to some, so you have been warned. Having said that the author J.S.Scott handled them with compassion, respect and integrity. The narration from Elizabeth Powers and Brian Pallino really enhanced my listening pleasure.
I fell hard and fast for Hudson, what a smoking hot, kind, caring and swoon worthy hero he is. I loved how protective and supportive he is of Taylor. This is a fast paced story that at times brought me to tears.
What a strong, determined and focused woman Taylor is. She has been through so much and survived against the odds, I admired her so much.
