Brennan Colt sings happy birthday to a stranger and ends up with a wife. Now that’s a story of a Colt brother!
Charlotte has faced a hard knock life. At nine, she was shipped off to live with her aunt and there she had to grow up fast. Now, as an adult, it was time for her to think of her future, even if that means cutting ties.
Headed to Tarnation so that she can nurse at a clinic, she enjoys … can nurse at a clinic, she enjoys the interaction with her patients, especially one who makes a memorable impression when he flashes her. She later meets that same cowboy at a local honky tonk and saves him from the claws of a thirsty woman, but she learns right away that he’s more than a wide smile and broad shoulders. He also has a conundrum–a tad one. He needs a wife. No big deal, right? Can she help him? However, the cowboy offers more than just quid pro quo and she isn’t sure she can handle the emotion.
Brennan’s burying his sorrow at the bottom of a bottle when in walks a savior with wild curls and amber eyes—and a smile that attaches to his big heart. Maybe he’d given up on getting hitched way too soon because suddenly his options are irresistible.
If he doesn’t marry in two weeks, he’d let his brothers, and himself, down. He had one last chance and her name was Charlotte. He’s not so sure about the whole idea, marrying a stranger and all, but what he felt in his gut when she was around didn’t feel too bad.
He’s learning about her, like how smart she is, how she loves chocolate and the way her eyes light up when she laughs, but he’s also realizing she has a few secrets. Nothing says he has to get to know her, but the big hearted cowboy is curious…and maybe a tad in love. Yet, if she isn’t willing to let him in, he might have to wave a flag of surrender…
She isn’t the only one who has secrets. When an uninvited guest shows up at Grinning Spurs, it’ll turn everything upside down.

A sweet story although certain story elements were repeated in each book, which felt a bit lazy, I hate to say. Also, wasn’t Melba the name of the cook in the first book? I did enjoy the characters and the premise of the story was engaging. An interesting ending to the mystery, too. Did feel a bit quick, as with the others. While I appreciate a quick read, I’m not in favor of shortcuts in the plot to make it happen.
This is the last of the Tarnation, Texas 5 book series and it doesn’t disappoint. This book story belongs to Brennan and Charlotte. This book has plenty of twists, turns, intrigue, and of course romance. It kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book I couldn’t put it down! A well written 5 star read and perfect end to the Tarnation Texas book series.
What a great conclusion to this series!
Brennan needs a wife to fulfill his fathers wishes. Time is ticking away and this usually happy go lucky kind man is feeling the pressure. He knows he is going to let down his brothers but to has not idea who to fix it.
Charlotte was a great character. She is kind and helpful but she isn’t afraid to step in and help someone in need. Helping Brennan one night was very much in her nature but she was surprised what happened afterwards.
I liked watching them grow as a couple. They both were feeling things but not wanting to rush things but yet they both knew that there was this black cloud over them. I really liked that the author didn’t drag out the marriage stipulation with this couple. Charlotte knew pretty much from the beginning.
I have read this entire series, and i was shocked at the end. I loved the new route the book took and was able to see all the reactions. This was an amazing book in a wonderful series!
This was a wonderful story. It is well written and has wonderful characters. There is some mystery in this one but I don’t do spoilers you will have to get this one to find out what it is. I am a fan of Rhonda Lee Carver. I know I will get a great story from her when I see her name on a book. I encourage you all to get this book and as a matter of fact the whole series. You will love it.
“Big Hearted Cowboy” is the fifth book in the Tarnation, Texas series and I hated to see this series come to an end. This is the story of Brennan Colt, the last single brother in the Colt family and he surely doesn’t want to let his family down. Charlotte is new in town and her life has been anything but easy, she just wants to start over and figures Tarnation is as good a place as any.
This book is loaded with romance, passion, family, cowboys, surprises, and just enough angst to keep it interesting. If you are a lover of romance, do yourself a favor and read this one.
This is sweet, romantic and entertaining. Brennan is the only single one left of the five brothers. He’s timid and awkward around women, which makes it hard for him to approach any woman that he would consider marrying. Charlotte is dedicated and caring, with no interest in adding a relationship to her life. But when Brennen and Charlotte meet, both feel something they’ve never felt before. The difference is, Brennan wants to get to know Charlotte, even if it means giving up the ranches. She’s not willing to take a chance of falling for him, because she’s not willing to marry as quickly as he needs to. Meeting an older woman who insists that they will get married confuses both of them. The twist at the end of the story shocks everyone.
Big Hearted Cowboy
Rhonda Carver
Oh my! I love the humor and the way you wrote it made it sooo visually real! Still chuckling about his trip to the clinic. I couldn’t put it down because you had to see what was going to happen next.
You’ve got another nonstop story that leads to a late night read.
Brennan and Charlotte are two of my favorite characters in this series.
Sad to see the end of the series, but this is definitely one of the best. Past issues, secrets and a tight time line set the pace for traveling the path to the HEA. Don’t miss this one.
I loved this whole series. Brennan and Charlotte are just what each other need, of course its not gonna be that easy. Thank you Rhonda for this epic journey to Tarnation Texas.
I love Brennan and Charlotte’s story. Rhonda Lee Carver knows how to tell a cowboy story and she hits all the right notes every time. Brennan doesn’t have much longer to find a woman to marry and Charlotte is the one he decides on. Can these two make it work or will a revelation tear them apart? I couldn’t put this book down!!!
Bighearted Cowboy was a wonderful addition to this amazing series. Brennan Colt abd Charlotte are my absolute favorite. Rhonda Lee Carver has written a beautifully captivating book. Grab this book and folow along the journey of the Colts.
Bighearted Cowboy was a great ending to the Tarnation, Texas series, especially with the twist that was revealed toward the end. I’ve loved each of the Colt brother’s stories, but Brennan is officially my favorite!
This has been a great series and Brennan’s story did not disappoint.
I loved the way Brennan had an ease about him outwardly, even though he felt the weight of the situation his deceased father had placed on him. He didn’t want to be the one that broke the proverbial camel’s back. This emotion is one that is relatable to everyday life. You might not be gambling away the family farm but who wants to feel or be labeled as the reason the team failed it’s objective. I constantly smiled and often snickered at Brennan’s flirtatious ways. Who could resist?
I felt for Charlotte. It is a fine line between taking care of someone and feeding the situation. When it comes to family it is even harder at times. She became very human to me. Maybe because I have become guilty to throw myself into work trying to escape the pains of a situation or in attempting to prove myself. Unlike Charlotte, I was fortunate to come from a very nurturing family. I applauded her move after meeting her aunt. I think the move to Tarnation, TX to start anew and to make new memories with her cousin was exactly what Charlotte needed.
I can’t think of a single thing that I disliked about Brennan’s & Charlotte’s story. I know I will miss seeing the new happenings in Tarnation, Texas but it will not be too far of a trip to revisit. I hope that others will make the trip with me because who can resist a nice southern town?
This series has definitely made my re-readable list. I don’t add to that list just willy-nilly
Haven’t ran across a bad book yet from this author. This book is part of a series that can be read as a standalone. It starts right out with adventure and enduring challenges and a hunky cowboy to make things interesting. There was shocking and exciting things going on throughout. Book gifted to me.
Anyone else sad to see this great series coming to an end?! I know I am, but what a way to end the series. This story had me surprised with each turn of events, and I was almost scared to see what was going to happen to Brennan and Charlotte!
In this book we meet Brennan Colt, the last of the brothers who is single. Brennan knows that the deadline is coming up fast but he is not about to accept just anyone. While Brennan is at the local honky tonk bar drinking and playing his guitar he finds himself getting the attention of a girl that he’s not interested in. Next thing he knows someone is by his side.
Charlotte has finally decided its time to think about herself and where she wants to be in life, and what better way then to move to a new town for a new start. She hasn’t had the best life and although her aunt who raised her isn’t the best, she was there for her and she just can’t leave her without. While in her new town, Charlotte goes to the local bar and finds herself helping a handsome cowboy. This night was not how she expected to spend her Birthday, but who wouldn’t want a birthday gift like the one Brennan gives her?! This is a MUST read, and it doesn’t hurt to read the books in the series to keep up with all the twist and turns of the cowboys in Tarnation!!
Brennan colt is the last of the colts to get married or they lose everything but when he gets thrown off his horse and lands into the dr office he sees Charlotte and finds himself attracted to her,but Brennan isn’t willing to marry just anyone. Charlotte has a past that she finally can get away from and start over but when she sees this sexy cowboy in the office getting ready to pass out on her is she willing to start dating?this by far was absolutely 100% the best book in the series and trust me you are not gonna know what hits with this book alots of twist and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat. Fantastic book and love the colt men.
Brennan and Charlotte’s book was just as good as books 1-4…full of surprises and twists! What a great ending to this series! Loved it!
“Big Hearted Cowboy” (Tarnation, Texas Book 5) by Rhonda Lee Carver is a wonderful read. I loved Brennan and Charlotte’s story. This is a terrific addition to this series. This story is packed with romance, hot cowboys, entertaining characters, twists, family, small-town life, and more. I hope this isn’t the last we’ll see of the Colt brothers. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, cowboys, family, and series.
Another great read by Rhonda. Brennan is the last brother left to try to find a wife before time runs out. Charlotte is a nurse who has moved into town after having a hard life. Brennan is a sweetheart and Charlotte is a very strong woman.
This story had lots of unexpected twists and turns. Another enjoyable book to a great series.
Rhonda has a way with words that keep me invested in her stories. This is the last book in this series and I really loved it.
Brennan is the last brother to find a wife and get married due to the stipulation in their dad’s will. The bottom line is he only has 3 weeks left.
Charlotte moved to Tarnation, Texas to get a new start on life. She’s a nurse who was raised by an elderly aunt who really wasn’t mother material. A medical scare and an ex fiancé is her push to move.
When Brennan and Charlotte meet, sparks ignite. But it takes time as she’s not sure about Brennan, who is such a sweetheart. It’s hard for her to trust in love again.
I loved watching these 2 get their HEA in life but boy it took work. Quite a few revelations and a very big misunderstanding slowed them down.
Now don’t get me wrong, there were a few sexy and romantic moments shared. Laughter and tears were there too.
Rhonda Lee Carver finished this series with a bang. Definitely worth reading in my honest opinion. I’m really going to miss these Colt brothers but I can’t wait to see what she has next in line.
