Ave Maria Mulligan is the town’s self-proclaimed spinster, a thirty-five year old pharmacist with a “mountain girl’s body and a flat behind.” She lives an amiable life with good friends and lots of hobbies until the fateful day in 1978 when she suddenly … discovers that she’s not who she always thought she was. Before she can blink, Ave’s fielding marriage proposals, fighting off greedy family members, organizing a celebration for visiting celebrities, and planning the trip of a lifetime — a trip that could change her view of the world and her own place in it forever. Great series.
One of my all time favorite book series and author.
I enjoyed this book. It was a pleasant way to spend a few hours
After a few pages, I knew this was a predictable story plot and not my cup of tea.
Loved this book.
a little too countrified.
The story grabs you: a small town with good people trying to work out their lives. Some intrigue that is satisfyingly resolved in the end. A very feel good book, which was made into a movie later.
High quality novel from Trigiani, as expected. Interesting and fun story.
Brain candy that was interesting and kept me turning the pages long after I should have gone to bed.
I read this book years ago and I have remembered it as one of the best books I’ve read in a long time so I have to give it another read and I recommend that you read it too! Adriana trigiani develops some of the best characters in fiction and you wish you knew them. So I am looking forward to reading it again very soon.
Fun read. Good writing.
I’m from Harlan Co. Which connects to Big Stone Gap. Loved the read and it includes much of our idiosyncraties without making us look like stupid hillbillies
Not as good as some of the other titles by this author but still an enjoyable read.
A. T. is a terrific author! I have not been disappointed in any of her books. Big Stone Gap is no exception!
It´s a sweet happy story. I read it and afternoon and was happy for days.
This book was an easy to read, romantic story. I would recommend it for light, feel good reading.
This is the first time I’ve read a book by this author. She is very funny, at different times I actually laughed out loud. The plot is flowing and has a romantic happy ending. Easy read for a rainy day or a day at the beach.
I had to stop reading when she cited fairly trite facts about travelers and confirmed stereotypes and used the word travelers whenever possible; like every page. The general plot line was good but this became over-shadowed by the too obvious attempt at giving a very shallow understanding of a complex culture.
It was impossible to put down. I read it all in one sitting. Great characters.
Read all four books in this series and loved following the family and story!
