He’s kind of a big dill.
A secret boss rom com from USA Today bestselling author JJ Knight
They call me Big Pickle. It’s not what you think.
(Although that’s true too.)
I happen to be the oldest Pickle in the family deli business.
And we have the best salami.
Take that one however you like.
But when my father announces the franchise will go to the most profitable of the three brothers, I learn … three brothers, I learn that even though I’m the eldest Pickle, I’m dead last.
I hightail it to Texas to see what’s happened to my restaurant, only to find a sassy little spitfire named Nova Strong in charge.
She’s amazing. She’s sexy. She runs our deli like she owns it.
But despite the way we nearly melt the permafrost in the industrial freezer, I have to control myself. Nova thinks I’m a new employee. She has no idea I’m only there to spy.
Or that I’m her boss.
As I get to the bottom of why my franchise is failing, I desperately need to know one thing:
Is Nova Strong everything wrong with my deli, or everything right for me?
Big Pickle is a full-length, 300-page standalone romantic comedy full of pickle jokes, giggle-worthy references to male anatomy, and more salty language than a jar of baby dills.

Oh, wow. I totally needed a funny, spicy book like Big Pickle. This is the cure for what is ailing me.
Jace Pickle is in a jam.
The problem? Smack-talking Nova Strong, who is either everything wrong with his deli, or everything right for him.
Big Pickle is one of the cutest, spiciest books that I’ve read in ages. I could make all kinds of puns in here about how Jace is one spicy pickle, or this book is a big dill! but the book is just funnier than anything I’m going to come up with.
JJ Knight is simply a treasure. (She also writes under the pen name Deanna Roy.) She’s one of the nicest people I know. She’s one of those people who, if you’re in pickle, you call her. (Dang it, I did it there.) Please take a look at her book, because it’s as funny and sweet and hysterical as she is.
This was a fun, hilarious, upbeat book! It definitely got me out of my books slump! Watching these two interact cracked me up! Nova is a spitfire and Jace was entertaining trying to work his butt off while conducting his “covert” investigation. I loved these two characters as well as the others in the “Pickle Family”. I laughed out loud many times and was so darn sad the book was over so quickly! I look forward to reading more in this series for sure!
Jace as do the rest of his family, owns a pickle deli, and he decides to go under cover as an employee rather than the boss, to see how manager Nova is running the business. This is a well written tale which is hilarious from the very beginning, as well as being a sweet, fun, romantic, entertaining and with witty banter which all leads to a steamy and riveting addictive page turner. I highly recommend for all romcom lovers.
So much fun and a great amount of steam in this romance. I have to admit, the start, was not my favorite, but the story picked up from there. So much fun, a small amount of mystery and of course a little angst to ramp up the interest. There is much “ado” about pickles in this one. Add to your TBR list.
I loved this story, it was funny and sexy.
Jace and Nova are great. They meet when he visits his deli in Austin and she works there and try to keep everything going.
She hire him to work in deli…………..
You need to read this book.
I love this book! The way Jace gets to know Nora was delightful, the only problem is he is keeping a secret and it makes a HUGE difference. His family never expected him to settle down like he did. They know something’s wrong when he leaves Austin but he isn’t telling them what the problem is. JJ has a way of pulling you into the story and you never want to put the book down until the end!
If you want a funny, romantic, and heartfelt story then Big Pickle by JJ Knight is for you! The two main characters are truly meant to be together but some are far from the same, Jace is the owner of Austin Pickles, he is rich, and definitely a playboy of Texas. His entire family all own pickle delis. Nova is the female character, she has come into the position of manager since the manager has left the deli. Well one day Jace came into the deli as “Jason” aka undercover boss. He wants to know how the deli is running and how business is going, but doesn’t want everyone knowing who he is. So he comes into the deli as Jason Packwood. Big Pickle has lots of pickle puns and jokes, it is definitely a good laugh but also has that romance factor as well! I have not laughed as hard as I have in JJ Knight’s other book Single Dad on top. Oh yea if you like the dad in that book you might want to read Big Pickle…….hint……Dell makes an appearance!!
You are going to fall in love with this story. It’s one of those that when I wasn’t reading it I was wondering what would happen next. Definitely a page turner and a wonderful romance story!
4.5 stars
He’s kind of a big dill; a real legend in his own mind but when Jace’s dad, of Pickle Deli stardom, announces a contest between the brothers, Jace learns taking his eye off the deli wasn’t the smart thing to do. He’s is treated to a humbling experience and her name is Nova Strong!
Learning his once successful deli is barely staying in the black each month sends Jace running to Austin where he finds a little Texas spitfire running things, instead of the manager he hired. The two are instantly suspicious of each other. Jace disguises himself as a family friend in need of a job in order to spy on the shop. They’re ridiculously attracted to each other but his new “boss” is determined to work the shine right off of that silver spoon he was born with. Working together closely to turn Austin Pickle around, things go hilariously wrong and heartwarmingly right… until she learns who he really is.
This book was adorable. Smart, sassy and sexy! I am excitedly waiting for the other Pickle tales!

What a wonderfully funny, laugh out loud read from JJ Knight. Along with all of the hilarious pickle puns, the author delivers a love story between Jason (or Jace), the owner, and Nova, the hard working manager of the pickle deli. We are pulled in right from the beginning and are taken on a wild ride of instant chemistry and pickle innuendos and learning one’s own self. I loved every turn of the page of this book and couldn’t put it down until I was done.
I truly enjoyed this book. Jason/Jase and Nova are awesome. There is just a enough humor to make you laugh throughout the book, great romance and some hotness too. I love the character dynamics and how close the family is. I look forward to seeing more of the Pickles.
This is a fun romantic story that will have you laughing until the end.
Jace/Jason is the eldest son of the Pickle delicatessen and owner of the franchise Austin Pickle. When his father announces a competition between the brothers to that over the family business so their father can retire, Jace can’t believe his deli is in the last place. He is headed to Austin to see what is going on.
Nova has been running Austin Pickle since the manager left on medical leave six months ago. She has been trying to keep things running smoothly but she can’t even get into the computer to check on invoices and deliveries. When a new guy shows up looking around and asking questions, she thinks he must be a spy for another company. She wants to talk to Jace before she lets Jason back in the deli.
As Jason and Nova work together and navigate the computer, the grow close. Learn some things and need to change a few things. But the closer they get Jason holds off telling her who he really is.
What will happen when she finds out who he really is? Will they find out what the old manager was hiding? Can Nova forgive Jason and they have a future together?
I loved everything about this story and I hope you love it too.
**Copy provided By the author and this is my honest opinion**
I was offered an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I was unfamiliar with this author until I found the ARC offer. I honestly thought that it couldn’t hurt to read this since there isn’t much else going on during this COVID-19 lockdown. I actually loved this book and thought it was adorable. I’m eager to read other books that hopefully will be part of a series about the Pickle Delis.
This book was a lot of fun to read. I loved the characters, the romance and the drama that was part of this great read!!!
Thank you JJ Knight for the opportunity!
So funny and yet a touching love story.
Big Pickle is a really funny romantic comedy full of double entendres and witty repartee between the two main characters, Jace/Jason and Nova. It’s told in first person POV, alternating between Jace and Nova.
Jace is the owner of a deli franchise owned by his family. Nova has been working there part-time for a few months when the manger goes off on sick leave never to be heard from again. She’s been holding things together the best she can.
When Jace’s father challenges him and his brothers (who also own franchises) to see whose store can make the most profit by the end of the year, Jace is startled to learn that his store is in last place. He’s been totally hands-off at the deli, living a playboy lifestyle, but decides he better visit his Austin Pickle store and find out what’s going on.
Jace and Nova work together to figure out what’s happening to the profits of Austin Pickle. They also give in to the sparks between them and boy are the sexy times HOT. There’s just one problem, Nova doesn’t know who Jace really is.
It will come as no surprise that when she finds out things blow up between them but getting to that point is a rollicking good time. One of the funniest things is a specialty bread the deli sells called the Dill Dough. LOL
I’ve not laughed so much while reading a book in a good while. Of course, I’m brought to tears when things go south but I knew that JJ Knight would give me a happy ever after. The ending and epilogue were perfect.
Jace has two brothers that play minor roles in Big Pickle. I wonder if we’ll get to hear more from this family?
This was a perfect distraction from what has been a very stressful few weeks! Funny, well-written, with heat and heart: what more could one want? There was an unexpected side effect of me now wanting pickle bread, but I’m sure that will eventually subside.
I loved this book for all the suspense of waiting to see what would happen when all the secrets came out and everything was out in the open. Great romantic suspense and then the happily ever after.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I laughed out loud so many times at the pickle puns! Jace started as your typical rich guy, who didn’t have a clue, and Nova as the hard-working girl – trying to do it all, for everyone. When they get together at Austin Pickle you can feel the tension between them. The secondary characters were so well developed too, like Grammy Alma, she has to be one of my favorites. I love the spunky, older ladies who don’t act their age and always want the best for their offspring. She was always there when needed and meddled appropriately.
Even though the story was based on winning a franchise profit contest, which Jace lost, he turned out to be the real winner in the end.
This is the kind of book you pick up if you’re in the mood for love and laughter. I would totally recommend this book as a must-read to anyone
