His heart is on the line!
Wrangler Jake Lassiter craves the Buckskin Ranch’s spunky housekeeper, Millie Jones, but telling her is out of the question. She’s the kind of gal who deserves a happily-ever-after. He’s not the kind of guy who can give her one.
Trouble is, his heart doesn’t want to listen to reason, especially after another cowboy sets his sights on Millie.

I love this trope. Very realistic example of best friends figuring out if they can be more and the different expectations between just being friendly versus being in a relationship. They are both very independent aka little stubborn so this is challenging. I was eager for them because I think being friends builds a solid foundation, they have great chemistry but it’s never easy working through the sensitive stuff. I think he’s a great cowboy, very respectful and has a lot to offer, I like her too and understand the principles of what was bothering her, I would never complain about a man doing the things he did without even being asked.:) Delightful romance with heartfelt emotion, enjoyed this. I received an advance review copy without obligation and am voluntarily reviewing.
Jake and Millie have been flirting for the past two years but it is only at the wedding of their friend Matt, that Millie realises that their relationship has no future because Jake has no wish to marry and have a family. However when Millie decides to give her attention to another cowboy, Jake is jealous and his fellow brothers persuade him to give a proper relationship a go. After two years of attraction, going out as a couple quickly escalates both of their feelings but Jake’s childhood and his fear that he will repeat the mistakes of his parents is a huge stumbling block. An enjoyable story, with a great family vibe from the Brotherhood, Henri and the Babes. Plus we get to meet up again with Seth and Zoe, and Matt and Lucy.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jake has always been one of my favorite of the Buckskin Brotherhood and watching him fall was oh so much fun. Millie is his perfect match. Definitely worth a read.
The Brotherhood (and the Babes on Buckskins) return in Thompson’s second novel set in Apple Grove. At the wedding of the couple from book one, Millie starts dreaming of her own matrimony, while her love interest, Jake, doubles down on his own decision to never marry. As the product of parents whose marriage is anything but blissful (or permanent), Jake doesn’t want to go down that same road. But when he realizes that he might lose Millie to another cowboy, he starts to rethink his position. Will he be miserable forever if he doesn’t at least see where the relationship goes? In a week of trial domesticity, Millie can’t come to terms with Jake not treating her like a partner, and the two of them might just lose it all…
Of course, this being a VLT novel, there’s a happily ever after, and it’s appropriately hard won. My favorite side characters from the first novel are back (retired barrelracer Babe Ed is the best!), and while the larger setting takes a backseat to the ranch this time, the friendships among the members of the cast and the role each plays in the story will make following their own romances a joy. The conversation between the Brotherhood about how you can’t treat romantic partners like your teammates, because women are different than the guys in the bunkhouse, is infuriatingly believable, and I’d have loved for Millie to talk some sense into all of them—but old worldviews about gender roles die hard, and I have faith that over time, Millie will set Jake right after all.
I’m definitely looking forward to following this bunch on all their future adventures!
I received an advance copy of this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love romances where the heroes are cowboys! Vicki Lewis Thompson writes some of the best ones! Her Eagle’s Nest series is one of my favorites and now the Apple Grove Series looks to be another. Her characters are easy to relate to and fun to read about.
Jake and Millie are a couple that has been in love for a couple of years but they have issues to work through before they get their HEA. Jake is a guy that any woman would want to keep. He’s a hard worker, loves to cook, and even cleans and does laundry. Can he give my husband lessons? LOL Millie is such a sweetheart. I really enjoyed reading about this couple and can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.
When reading a book by this author, you can expect smiles, tears, angst and romance. This book is no different as I grinned my way through the story-line. Cowboy Jake had to learn to be a team player for his spunky Millie. It’s a fun read with adult situations and plenty of laughs.
Another delightful book from Vicki Lewis Thompson! The second in the series with two delightful characters. Story is full love and presented with humor and a touch of steam.
I have really enjoyed this series and I enjoyed reading about Millie and Jake’s story in this book. Jake is such a sexy cowboy, trying not to have a relationship like his parents, who fought all the time. He was so afraid he would be just like his dad if he dated Millie and fell in love with her.
Millie was quite the romantic person in the story and so in love with Jake. I really liked how she wanted to be more a part of Jake’s life and not have him do everything by himself. I also liked how Jake proved to Millie that he truly loved her. It made for a great ending. I also enjoyed The Buckskin Brotherhood with its sexy, strong, caring cowboys. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I love the characters in this series SO much. I want to be part of the close knit
family they have created for themselves. I’m delighted when they get their happily ever after. The stories move so fast, you can just gobble them up in one sitting if you are so inclined. And as much as I love the sweet interactions and the smoking hot love scenes, I also love it when a line of dialog has me barking out a suprised laugh. Laughter and love. What could be better than that? Can’t wait for the next book in this series. I hope there are many, many more.
I really loved Jake in the previous book, Sweet-Talking Cowboy. He and Millie had lovely chemistry, but nothing had happened between them yet. I knew that there was a great story coming with this one. I won’t say a lot about the plot because I don’t want to spoil anything. I will say that Millie is a sweetheart who spreads cheerfulness wherever she goes. Jake cannot help but be drawn to her. She has a clear picture of how a healthy relationship should look, and she sticks to her guns when necessary.
Jake, bless his heart, has no idea how a healthy relationship should work, and he pretty much sabotages himself. Because we can hear what he is thinking, though, it is easy to feel for him, and i was definitely pulling for him to wake up. He has the sense to go to his brothers for help, and they get him straight. The end is very romantic. A great read!
I Liked it!
An emotional, sexy story. Jake and Millie have been friends for 2 years. She wants more. Jake is terrified of more.
I can understand Jake’s issues and wondered how he would overcome them.
Sometimes, the hero in a romance novel is so frustrating; I spent the majority of my reading time wanting to shake some sense into Jake to let him know he doesn’t have to follow in his parents footsteps. Luckily, he has some really nice qualities so, I felt okay wishing for he and Millie to stay together. Jake and Millie have a rough path to follow to their happy ending, but they sure have some steamy fun along the way.

We are back at the Buckskin Ranch with the “boys” Henri and Charley took under their wings.
This time the story belongs to Jake Lassiter, one of the “boys”, and the resident housekeeper, Millie Jones.
From the moment these two met a few years ago, the attraction was evident, but they cherished their friendship too much to risk it with a relationship that could go south.
When they finally take the leap, Jake’s past is revealed. As it usually happens, the experiences as a child, have greatly affected him not only as an adult , but as he sees relationships. His fears make him want to control everything not letting Millie into his life and not allowing the relationship be one of sharing and being a team.
As the tension intensifies, will they be able to overcome the obstacles, or will Jake never be able to let go?
At times sappy, and at others touching and sweet, it’s a perfect story to escape reality and take a break from real life.
Though for me, it was more of a 3.5 stars story, I respect the efforts authors put in their work, and for that it gets 4 stars.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
