Lucian Badd saved my life. He jumped into the freezing water of the Ketchikan harbor after I fell in. He took me to his room, stripped my wet clothes off, and wrapped me in a warm blanket. That should have been it. I should have hit the road as soon as I could, because I’m a vagabond, a drifter. A homeless orphan with no family and no future except what I create for myself. Which is why getting … getting tangled up with a guy–no matter how tall, dark, quiet, and sexy he may be–is a really terrible idea.
Yet…I kissed him anyway. And that one kiss? It set my world on fire, turned everything upside down.
I know I shouldn’t get involved with him. I tell myself I won’t. Yet, I still get pulled in by him and his seven brothers and their wives and girlfriends–by the concept of family, something I haven’t had in a very, very long time. Something I never thought I’d have again.
Every moment I spend with Lucian turns my present into perfect, and puts my future at risk.
* * *
As the second youngest Badd brother, I’ve lived my entire life in the broad shadows cast by my older brothers–the burly, bad boy bartender, the Navy SEAL, the trick pilot, the athlete, and the rock star twins. Even my younger brother, Xavier, finds a way to outshine everyone in the room with his unassuming charisma and dizzying intellect. More and more lately, I’ve been asking myself where I fit in.
And then Joss Mackenzie fell into the Inside Passage in the middle of a freak snowstorm, and in so doing, fell into my life. I saved her from the icy water, but can I can I save myself from falling for a girl I know is only going to end up doing the one thing she does best–leave?
It’s evident from the first kiss what the answer is–there’s no saving myself, not from the magnetic appeal of her wild, untamable spirit, or the exotic allure of her caramel skin and long dreadlocks and golden-brown eyes and perfect body. I’m helpless against this attraction.
But as I seek to find myself and my place among my larger-than-life brothers, will I lose my heart to the exotic beauty with walls a mile high and a tragic past?
more
It was okay. It felt rushed. The main characters needed more development and honestly I needed a scoreboard to keep all the brothers and their wives straight.
“I didn’t want to want him, but I did.”
Another one bites the dust. The countdown to the final Badd brother is getting closer and closer. Though I’m VERY excited to read it, I’m not ready for it to be over. There are eight brothers and this is book seven, so we’re down to the baby brother who has the biggest… brain.
As I’ve gotten to know the brothers over time, certain ones have made an impression causing me to get excited as I anticipated the time it would be their turn to shine. Lucian was not one of them. He’s the quiet one who kinda faded into the background and didn’t catch my attention. Now I know why. He didn’t push himself into the spotlight, preferring to let his older brothers have that privilege. But when it counted, he was at the right place at the right time to save a damsel in distress. Fishing Joss out of the water in freezing temperatures saved her life and changed his forever.
Joss is like no other character that I’ve read before. Her strength and determination are admirable and her walls are gigantic. She’s in survival mode, closing herself off and avoiding any and all questions about herself. I’m sure you can imagine how well that goes over amongst the Badd tribe, right? Yeah, not at all. They have the biggest of hearts and the best of intentions, but they are nosy and all up in each other’s business. I found it quite amusing to see her reaction when faced with their shenanigans up close and personal.
I’ve got it Badd for these brothers and their extended family. I’m suffering withdrawal already just knowing the series is nearing its conclusion. I want to rush forward to the next one, and at the same time to turn back time and keep it from ending. I have no doubt the author has something amazing planned for us next, and I’ll be ready for whatever it is when the time comes. The line forms here.
I’ve read most of the BADD series, but this one just seemed to be SO much worse. Maybe I’m just tired of books that rest heavily on sex scenes. The characters do have angst and arguments and that’s done well, but the book is filled to the brim with sex filler. This one is loaded, complete with the “F” bomb by every member of the cast (7 brothers and their wives? I’ve lost count). Joss falls in the harbor and is rescued by Luce, who just happens to see it happen, He takes her to the bar all the brothers own, and she’s soaking wet wearing gray sweat pants, blue jeans, red fleece jacket, coat, NYU Hoodie, several layers of shirts, long sleeve thermal long john shirt, and three baggie t’s. Sorry folks, she would have sunk like a rock and all Luce would have HEARD was a splash he could ignore. But, Joss has been walking and hitchhiking from Nova Scotia to Alaska because her parents were killed in Nova Scotia when on vacation, and she’s only 17, a U.S. citizen, and authorities are trying to figure out what to do with her. She runs/walks across Canada (almost 5 thousand miles), sleeping in bus stations, park benches, and libraries. All she has is a backpack with a “few clothes.” She has stopped at a couple locations and worked to earn enough money to keep on going. 20% into the book she and Luce kiss. She’s convinced to stay with the BADD family, and by 33% she has yoga pants and scoop t-shirt. The story starts working up to a sex scene and at 36% she panics (she’s a virgin and was almost raped, so has trauma problems) and smashes Luce’s nose (and he’s being very patient and considerate in his love making moves). Eventually she tells him all about the rape attempt, gets embarrassed, so she grabs her “few” clothes in her backpack, dresses back up in her layers and off she runs, plane ticket to Seattle. 49% Not happy there, starts walking and sleeps over night in a field. Hitches to Olympia, and at 59% calls the Badd family she wants to come home. 61% one of the brothers and Luce come and rescue her and she sleeps all the way home in the helicopter. We are now on day two of her “running”. Luce takes her to the bedroom as she’s still asleep, and she wakes up at 66% At this point we start a sex scene that goes until 80%. Make love, talk, make love, talk, make love, talk ad nauseum, and worse, he CONSTANTLY tells her “It’s all about you Joss” so many times I gagged. They sleep the night, wake up at 84-85% MORE SEX. Ya know what. She hasn’t had a shower since before she left, so Miss stinky must be giving Luce a real good smell for his nose and taste for his mouth. They do manage a shower at 86%. Lastly, don’t bother with the Epilogue. It’s the beginning of the next book about another brother to hook you in to more reading.
Love this series!
Love me some Badd brothers. Do not miss out on these books! I wish they existed-I would hunt them down and be happy with any of them. They show you how important family is and how they are their for one another. They do not disappoint
Love the Badd brothers!!!
Wonderful story but also shines a light on the dark subject of homelessness and rape and the psychological effects these have on a human being!!!
I cant say enough about this series. This book made me laugh, cry, and just hope. One of the best authors out there.
WOW… another great Badd Brother’s book! We finally get insight on the elusive Lucian Badd and boy it was eye opening for sure. Lucian is one of eight amazing Badd brothers but what he didn’t realize is he’s just as amazing as his brothers. He didn’t realize his worth until meeting the one woman who would bring him to his knees but in the process he would show her she is worth fighting for. Definitely an emotional read that I was unable to put down enraptured with each page. I’m not ready for this series to end but the final Badd Brother is coming and I have a feeling it’s going to rock my world!
fun addition to the series
I received a free copy of this book from the author.
If you haven’t started the Badd Brother series you should. These men are fabulous. This book focuses on Lucian Badd. He’s the quiet one in the family of eight men. Six of his eight brothers have found their significant others in prior books. So now it’s his turn.
As you can see from the blurb he rescues a woman from the freeeeezing cold Alazkan water. Frostbite central people. Turns out her name is Joss Mackenzie. She’s a prickly woman. You’ll see.
These two killed me. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to laugh or strangle. HA! I mean really. They’re both nomads. Traveling the earth trying to find their way. Until they meet in Alaska. Joss has a lot of hang ups. There’s a couple of points about her that I would have loved for the author to address, but didn’t.
Anyway – this is another title by Jasinda Wilder that won’t disappoint. Check it out.
Holy cow! Jasinda Wilder wasted no time in Big Badd Wolf. She immediately had my full attention from the very first page. Lucian Badd saves Joss Mackenzie’s life after she falls into the Ketchikan harbor during a blizzard. He takes her home to his family to give her a warm place to stay, food, and warm clothes. The two are instantly drawn to one another. Joss never stays anywhere too long. She is a drifter and has been for years. Something about Lucian and his boisterous and overwhelming family make her want to stay. She has secrets and trust issues, and she isn’t sure if she will ever allow anyone into her life.
Lucian and Joss were perfect together. He makes her want to put down roots, and she makes him realize he is drifting. He has done some amazing traveling, yet he doesn’t really know where he fits in with his family. They each have their own talents and interests, and he isn’t quite sure what his are. Through Joss, who has a dream herself, he finds his. There was no mistake that Joss had trust issues, but I discovered so does Luce. Wilder shows us that you can love someone 100 percent, but if you don’t trust each other, what good is that love? Luce and Joss will have to be patient and step outside their comfort zones to find their HEA. I have to tell you I loved watching it!!!!
How could I not fall under the Badd brothers’ spell!!! As the women who love them have said, the kind of just pull you into their orbit and don’t let you go. I haven’t read the other books in the series, but I do have them downloaded. I can’t wait to get to know each one like I did Luc. Until next time, I will sadly say good-bye and happily look forward until I can return again!

Seriously? Author Jasinda Wilder has yet done it again!
I am in freaking love love love with another Badd Brother!
Just saying right now if I could clone myself, I would do it 7 times right now and be with every single one of these hot, delicious, vicariously gorgeous Badd men she has created.
Okay, so my cherries are cooling off from all the hotness of Lucian Badd.
He is out of all the brothers so far (we still get one more, Xaiver), the one I can relate to the most.
Yes, every raw emotion Lucian & Joss had in this book, it stuck to me hard because I felt as though I was them.
The not fitting in, the what if’s, the silence, it all was very relatable to how many of us feel at times.
Lucian is such a loving bookworm and Joss is his equal. Both Joss & Lucian are holding back with frustration that makes you want to slap some sense into them. Especially Joss. Once finding out why her past haunts her present makes you sympathize for her and fall hard for her too.
Lucian is a lonely lost soul in his crazy family and my heart wants him to find his happy.
Joss literally falls into his life and shows him that focusing on what you want is key to finding his happiness, even if it means having to not be his introvert self anymore and opening up to the ones that love him, including himself.
And yes you will get all of the Badd Brothers making appearances in this story.
Go one click and get ready to go on another Badd adventure!
