I lost my journal. No big deal, right? It’s only the most honest parts of me. Raw. Uncensored. Humiliating. It’s a race against time to get it back before someone finds it.
Except someone did find it. And read it. AND COMMENTED.
Sexual boundaries aren’t just crossed in his message, they’re obliterated. His words drop my jaw and flush my cheeks, then piss me off. He has the audacity to demand I … audacity to demand I contact him. Not gonna happen, buddy.
Except, after a tequila-fueled tirade, I do just that…
The man I find overflows with kindness and humor and depth. I don’t even know his name, but I fall in love with his mind, opening up in ways I never have with anyone. I’m vulnerable. Bare. Real.
Meanwhile, I meet Lucas Hutton—a Marine with scars covering his body, heart, and soul.
The chemistry between us is a force of nature, beautiful, powerful, and impossible to ignore.
His intensity leaves me reeling. The physical attraction has me melting. I want to pull back his layers and find the man hiding under that scowling exterior.
Mind versus body.
Physical versus mental.
Kind versus passionate.
I have to choose between them.
I just don’t know how I can.
Beyond Words is a poignant standalone contemporary romance. Heat, heart, and hilarity wait for you in this unconventional love triangle with no cheating and a guaranteed happily ever after!

I opened this book not knowing anything about the author, not knowing anything about the story. I received a signed copy of it in my romance reveal box just yesterday and was excited to find it in KU. I spent all night and this morning reading it and I couldn’t get enough! I absolutely adored Cat and Lucas’ story. Both characters are truly genuine people who care about others and life itself. They had so much in common, they were truly meant to be. Loved the concept of the story as well. It’s amazing how much you can learn about a person in written words than face to face and was so glad that they had both parts of a whole to each other. Truly a wonderful book.
A journal filled with her most intimate thoughts and feelings accidentally left behind. A stranger who reads the journal and responds. Two people who look at the world differently than those around them find themselves caught falling in love with the stranger they know and the real person in front of them.
I adored this book. It felt raw and gritty, asking questions that really makes a person stop and think. I love how the two characters got to know each other through deep and honest conversation before they even saw each other; forming that strong bond that many only dream of.
A definite read.
Such a wonderful, unique story about a love triangle… Or is it a love quadrilateral… Between only two people?? Sound impossible?? It’s not! It’s clever and original, and a beautiful wounded warrior story.
Beyond Words is book 1 in the new Hutton Family series by Abby Brooks and OMG..what a way to begin this Series!!!
Lucas (Skywalker) and Cat (Katydid) first connect when Katydid loses her journal with all her inner most thoughts at a coffee shop only to be found by Skywalker who reads it and leaves her a message to contact him. She contacts him which start a romance..then Lucas and Cat meets when she starts a job at the Hut. Unbeknownst to either they already know each other from the emails..so the story goes…
This story brings them full circle and has lots to keep you reading until the last page. Looking forward to reading more Hutton’s!!!
Read a couple chapters and just knew I had to read this book!!
I am in love. Beyond Words was beyond everything. I laughed (the line about a certain sneeze had me dying ) Then my heart was in my chest thumping away. I read and read with baited breath not able to stop until I had the answers that allowed me to release my breath. Perfect release timing around Valentines Day because this is such a romantic story it just fits the season. But it’s more than romance. It’s sexy, has heartaches, poetic words, depth and so many emotions. Cat & Lucas are amazing characters. I’m very excited for the Hutton series.
It may be Luc & Cat’s story but the family will suck you in, too!!!
Floved! I can’t remember why I picked this up yesterday, but so glad I did!! I devoured it today in three or so hours. Emotional, sweet, steamy, sad…it had all the feels. I look forward to reading Wyatt’s story. Luc & Cat are fantastic! I loved their path to HEA.
Abby Brooks writing NEVER disappoints, but I must say, this particular book, well, it’s one of the best I’ve ever read. The story is dynamically filled with heart-wrenching emotion and perfectly placed laughter to ease you into the next Chapter. Abby creates such realistic characters, that you feel you know them at the end of the book and you’re just waiting for a phone call to get more of their story. I hope we are kept up-to-date on their love story through the rest of the series (hint…hint, Ms. Brooks).
It’s perfectly written, and I could’t put it down.
This book was absolutely beautiful from start to finish. I was not the least bit surprised since Abby has a way with words and the romantic attachments that people seem to form without even knowing it.
Cat and Lucas have chemistry that is off the charts and only gets hotter as time goes by. When people correspond with each other they have a way of saying things that they have no idea how it will affect the other person. Reminds me of being young and writing letters to my boyfriend, you can always reread them and have a better understanding of the other person’s feelings. Words are wonderful!
Grab some tissue because this book has all the feels and you will need several if you are like me. My bed looked like a box of kleenex had exploded by the time I finished.
I can’t wait to read the other books in this series. Abby Brooks > xoxo
This is the perfect slow burn read that leads you down a path where two lost in life people come together online after a serendipity moment in time. I just loved both Cat and Lucas, how can you not when they are all about family, being there for people and wanting to find happiness. Both have gone through tough times and know how it feels to try and move on so get comfy, maybe have a couple of tissues handy and a packet of biscuits/wine as you will fall in love with Lucas, his family, Cat and her parents too!
Words cannot describe the love I have for this book.
Meet the Hutton family, I’ve decided it best to just post the email I sent to Abby following my read of this book.
First, I just finished and am still sobbing. Secondly, each book you write is my favorite and how can it possibly be replaced but then you write another. This is your best yet just as I’m sure your next will be better still. You’re amazingly talented and, as a book lover, I am immensely grateful that you allow me to be a part of your journey.
Cat loses everything in one day, her fiance, her home, her job and her journal. Imagine her mortification when she recovers her journal only to discover someone read it. Worse yet he made notes and left his email address behind.
Cat begins to pick up the pieces and follows her free-spirited mother to the Keys where she ends up taking a job for the Hutton’s. She ends up emailing the person who read her journal and eventually forms a bond with him. However, she also forms a bond with Lucas Hutton, a former solder who has come home after the death of his father.
How can she develop feelings for 2 men, one she’s never even met and knows nothing about? How can’t she? One man shares his innermost thoughts with her and listens to hers without judgement and one electrifies her. Picking up the pieces has never been so scary when it could all implode at any moment.
Don’t forget the tissues when you read this one. I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Katydid and Skywalker their nicknames to each other from the first time that he invaded her privacy to falling in love with her words their connection has been off the charts they couldn’t seem to help it. A modern day you’ve got mail classic. Loved it from start to finish
Have you ever read a book that excited, and consumed you so much that once you finally closed the book and gave into sleep, its the first thing you pick up again the next morning?
Beyond Words had hooked me on the first page!
Not your typical romance, and something unique from Abby Brooks. A pouring of hearts, minds, and souls in a three-dimensional triangle of friendship, lust, and love. The characters connection can easily be felt- their struggles quickly became mine.
While there was plenty of emotional upsets,( I even had a few sniffles in there) the lightheartedness was also in ample supply, between Cat’s inner dialogue, and her exuberant friends, plus the many layers of the Hutton family, there’s plenty to smile about! Add in that sexual tension lingering underneath the surface.. woo –You’ve got a magnificent story that begs to be read!
I am excited to see where this story goes from here- The Hutton Family has quickly become people I need to know everything about!

Ah, so in love with this romantic and loving book. Cat and Lucas find each other in such unusual circumstances that makes you dream and not be able to put this book down. But, I had to slow down so the book wouldn’t end too soon. I loved the story lines and the lessons that Abby always leaves with her books. Another, beyond words good series!!
As I said in a previous text while reading the first four chapters of the book, Abby has really outdone herself. The genre is totally different from her previous stories; as a matter of fact this is an introspective journey of two lost souls that finally meet through a journal left behind by the female heroine. So, Abby proves that words are just not straws in the wind, on the contrary when written and felt deeply with feelings, they can settle into the soul and remain there, changing the perspective of life andas a result they can give the chance to exactly feel. The reading of the book has left me with an eye opening effect in my inner self. This book is the demonstration that the style of the author has matured and has changed paths towards a deeper reflection of the human soul. A romance beyond romance.
Simply amazing!! Did you ever read a book and know that on the first page you were going to fall in love with not only the characters but the story as well. This is the book that did that for me. Abby Brooks hooks you in from the opening lines and you will go through every emotion as you turn the pages. She is a masterful story teller that is so needed in this age of cookie cutter romance. The story of Cat and Lucas is filled with perfect chemistry from honest and true characters. I wish i could give this story 500 stars!! A MUST read.
The beginning of Cat’s story is one most of us romance readers dream about. Girl loses journal. Boy reads journal. Boy falls in love with girl’s honest inner thoughts. Boy leaves cute, SEXY note for girl to find. But then Cat meets boy #2. Mr. X is a poetic deep soul, while Lucas is an intense, broody, damaged marine. And I adored every minute of this book and all of the characters that filled its pages.
Beyond Words is a wonderful balance of deep, emotional moments and fun, light-hearted humor. A romance combined with the ups and downs of family and life. I truly can’t wait to read about more members of the Hutton family. The family banter and involvement in every book is one of my favorite aspects of book series’ like this one. It makes the characters seem more realistic and easier to connect to. Abby Brooks always does an amazing job writing characters that are lovable and relatable and Beyond words is no different. The story flowed seamlessly and I found myself happily wrapped in Brooks’s lyrical words from beginning to end.
Good old fashioned romance.
The idea of two people meeting and communicating without seeing each other is refreshing. A slow bun romantic book where the hero and the heroine have excellent chemistry and it’s all done through emails. Beyond Words is a different story, in today’s society where people are so busy taking selfies and so quick to judge each other based on their appearance, it’s nice to see two people fall in love with what is on the inside not on the surface.
I don’t even know where to begin. Cat and Lucas were the romantic coincidence of a lifetime. It’s crazy how words can touch so deeply. The Hutton family is a hoot and it looks like this series is going to be AMAZING!
Lucas and Kat are great characters that warm your heart and have you cheering for them. Kat moves to be with her mother after a horribly bad day. Lucas is the one who found and read her journal and even left an inscription of his own inside. When she gets a new job she finally meets Luas. Will their attraction be enough for them to jump start their hearts and will it lead them down the road to a happily ever after?
Another of my Prime Reading choices.
I love the idea of this story. Getting to know and fall in love with someone based purely on their personality and not their looks is a trope that I can fully get behind. Although it’s very violating to have someone read your journal, I think I would have been less angry than Cat was simply based on the note left behind.
I found it interesting the way both Cat and Lucas interpreted their relationships and how they related to each other, both in person and in the written word.
I think people who enjoy this kind of romance trope and pretty much any lover of contemporary romance will enjoy this book.
