I lost my journal. No big deal, right? It’s only the most honest parts of me. Raw. Uncensored. Humiliating. It’s a race against time to get it back before someone finds it.
Except someone did find it. And read it. AND COMMENTED.
Sexual boundaries aren’t just crossed in his message, they’re obliterated. His words drop my jaw and flush my cheeks, then piss me off. He has the audacity to demand I … audacity to demand I contact him. Not gonna happen, buddy.
Except, after a tequila-fueled tirade, I do just that…
The man I find overflows with kindness and humor and depth. I don’t even know his name, but I fall in love with his mind, opening up in ways I never have with anyone. I’m vulnerable. Bare. Real.
Meanwhile, I meet Lucas Hutton—a Marine with scars covering his body, heart, and soul.
The chemistry between us is a force of nature, beautiful, powerful, and impossible to ignore.
His intensity leaves me reeling. The physical attraction has me melting. I want to pull back his layers and find the man hiding under that scowling exterior.
Mind versus body.
Physical versus mental.
Kind versus passionate.
I have to choose between them.
I just don’t know how I can.
Beyond Words is a poignant standalone contemporary romance. Heat, heart, and hilarity wait for you in this unconventional love triangle with no cheating and a guaranteed happily ever after!

I am so GLAD I started this series! This was my first book by Abby Brooks and I am already looking forward to the rest of the siblings. The book had it all – I was excited for the characters, sad for them, I laughed with them (thinking of my own siblings) and just plain enjoyed the book. Ms. Brooks writes well and it is easy to move through. The premise behind the book with the lost journal and falling in love from a far is a nice change of pace. The probability of this happening, slim, but you get so pulled into the story that you don’t care. I definitely recommend this book for those looking for a new series to start.
5 stars for Beyond Words by Abby Brooks. This is book 1 in the Hutton Family Series. I am looking forward to reading more about the rest of the Hutton Family. Wow this book touched something in my soul. “Or maybe I’m not made to fall in love with one person and stay that way.” Mr. X finds a journal and reads it and writes in it. Cat left her journal and starts talking to the man who wrote in it. They tell each other things they wouldn’t share with anyone else. Then after a terrible day Cat decides it is time for a change and moves to Florida with her mom. When she gets a new job, she meets Lucas Hutton and develops feelings for him. Lucas is an injured veteran, suffering from nightmares and so much more. She doesn’t know what to do, she has feeling for both Mr. X and Lucas. Feelings are becoming deeper and messier. What is she going to do? “ We’re all lost babe. All of us. If anyone tries to make you believe he knows what he’s doing, he’s full of sh**. Everyday is nothing more then trying to find your way forward. The trick is figuring out how to turn the confusion into a good time, otherwise life is going to suck.” This book is one that will stick with me for a long time. I went through so many emotions while reading it. I loved the feelings that this book evoked in me. If you love books that make you emotional then this is one for you.
2019published, both-pov, contemporary, easy-to-read, friends-in-love, her-pov, his-pov, m-f-romance, neighbors, office, plot, read, romance, sex edit
This book is simple and predictable, you know what it is going to happen but it is IMPOSSIBLE to stop reading, you have to read one more page, chapter and when your needs to go to the bathroom are unbearable you see the day is borning. I read it all night and didn’t even blink.
Really in love with this story, this book, the characters (Katydid and Skywalker), I loved all the Hutton family.
I cried and laughed and enjoyed and I recommend it.
Beyond Words was the first book in The Hutton Family Series. You get to meet the entire family but this book was about Lucas and Cat.
When Lucas sat down with his coffee, he found a journal. He knew he should not read it, but what if it had a name he could return it to. Once opened, he couldn’t stop. He found himself entranced by the writer and had to get to know her. He left his contact info in the journal and hoped she would be back to get it.
Cat had an absolutely horrible day and when I say horrible, I mean THE worst – she lost her home, her job and her journal. Luckily her journal was found; but not before someone had the audacity to read it…AND leave her a note…to contact them!
Cat decided to contact the mystery man, at first she was mad that someone violated her personal thoughts but as she got to know this man, her feelings shifted. They shared an intense bond through words.
While the mystery man seemed too good to be true, Cat also met a man (in the flesh) that she had instant chemistry with. Now she was at a crossroads. Which man should she pick? The one she had never met or the one right in front of her?
Such a good story! Abby has such a way with words and her books always flow so well. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the rest of the family!!
I absolutely loved Lucas and Cat, they were sweet, thoughtful, steamy and poetic. I adored the mystery of emailing and falling in love with a stranger as you fall for the person’s thoughts and feelings before their physical being. This book was a fantastic way to start out a new series!
Loved this emotional and exciting journey of the mind. This was a highly entertaining adventure filled with so many beautiful heartwarming moments and hard truths. Loved the interesting and engaging charters as well as the description of the keys. Looking forward to reading more about the Hutton Family and their journey to healing as a family.
I thought this book was pretty darn great! I loved the characters, and while I could tell part of what was coming, it was still fun getting there. Just the right amount of humor, romance and some “nasty”! I’d love to read more by this author and the continuing sagas of the Hutton Family.
Sweet story with likable characters.
I love the meet cute in this book. I spent the whole think wondering if Lucas was the guy who wrote in Cat’s journal and really really hoping he was and then the mystery is solved and it’s just everything you can hope for. Such a great world Abby Brooks has created with some awesome characters I am super excited to continue with this family.
Love the love triangle in this book!
I loved everything about this book! The way this story was written just made my heart sing. I love how Lucas and Cat first meet via emails and just continue to fall for each other by pouring out their hearts and thoughts to each other. It was also beautiful to see them fall for each other in person, without knowing they were already talking via emails. When Lucas finally realized that Cat was his secret email love, I shed a few tears over it. This story was so wonderfully written that you just won’t be able to put it down.
