This is an HEA romance with no cliffhangers and is the second in the series. I had no trouble following the sequence of events even though I haven’t read book 1, Beneath the Lake. The story has an intriguing ending, that will definitely make you want to read the next in the series, but I would also recommend reading Beneath the Lake first, so you have a better understanding about what is happening throughout Beyond the Mist.
I give it 5 stars!!
Beyond the Mist
By Casi McLean
This is the second in the Lake Lanier Mysteries. It is now about Nick and Piper. Nick thinks that he can save his old girlfriend Carly from the devastation that was 911. Piper volunteers to go after Nick after he used Sandy’s time machine. When he ended up just before the twin towers would have been destroyed, he messes up the whole timeline. Which means that since he was no longer in their timeline Lacey dies in the lake. The whole wild ride gives the reader chills and wishing they too could go back in time to fix something or to save someone. The end leaves a cliffhanger that gives the reader some hope in there being another story.
I really enjoyed this book. At first, it was kind of hard to get into but once it got going it flew by. I love a good story that will give not only give you a good feeling and an HEA. I think this book deserves at least a 4.5 but they don’t let you give out that score so I will give it 5 out of 5 stars. I really really hope that there will be more in this series. I NEED to KNOW!!!!

Beyond the Mist is a time travel thriller suspense that takes you right to the heart of 9/11.
Nick is determined to use the time portal under Lake Lanier to fix the past before he allows himself to build a future with Piper. But doing so could change the world’s future and Piper chases after him to make sure he does not succeed.
Arriving just days before 9/11, this story will leave it’s reader reliving a painful part of our not-so-distant past but rest assured. Casi manages to write about the events with respect, honesty, and a delicacy that will keep you from putting the book down even while you reach for a Kleenex.
The suspense, time travel, and romance are woven together perfectly. Beyond the Mist is a page-turner you won’t want to put down. Can Piper stop Nick from making a mistake and help him to let go of the past? Well, if you’ve been reading my reviews, you know I don’t give anything away. Just know, this enjoyable read is one you will be glad you picked up. 5 stars.
Sci-fi Time Traveling Mystery Romance . . . Piper and Nick have that chance meeting that sends them both a jolt of realization. This journey for the two of them starts off well in good in the present time but slips to the past with good intentions and not so good possible outcomes. Nick had once loved and lost and still held on to those tragic results. He now have another chance at love and finds that he wants to amend the past with the present. Not quite seeing straight or fully grasping the consequences of his decision. He goes head first in to the waters of Lake Lanier and slips further Beyond the Mist.
There was much here. The writing was good. The characters were rich and flawed. The imagery was vivid. The heavy subject of 9/11 and the events that took place on that day will forever be a subject that needs to be handled in the right way when approaching it. There will always be someone that finds offense in the events of that day. There will be those that want very much to change that day, but we have to understand it was the past and even the simplest change to that day could have ramifications that could make things a 100x worse. I found that the way in which Casi approached the events was constructed well. She gave a different view. She showed that events of the world happen and it could have a lasting effect on you but its you that makes the choice to move forward with you life. Going back and changing those events could in fact change everything that followed.
I enjoyed watching how Piper and Nick navigated the events of their present and then once they slip in to the past. There was suspense, action, drama, and intensity. But most of all they had each other and the love they were building with each other.
Narrator Amy Deuchler did justice to this piece. She had the diction, clarity, and pacing down. The audio ran smooth. I could detect no lengthy pauses, gaps and no hiccups. I enjoyed it more after the feel the narrator out phase and was able to kick up the speed. This provided me with more like a picture playing in my head
A fairly good time travel story. Not a classic, but an entertaining read. It is worth buying in my opinion. Original story, enjoyable and well read. I received a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this one. It was raw and emotional. I was hooked from the very first page and found it very difficult to put down once I got started. I’m looking forward to reading more my this author.
Second book in the series and brilliant, had me hooked from the first page. Although the book follows on from from book 1, it could be read as stand alone but I personally feel that you would lose out on a lot of background and understanding without reading book 1 first. This has the same characters as book 1 but follows Nick & Pipers story taking you back to the awful events of 9/11 and the perils of time travel. Whilst Nick is trying to lay ghosts of his past to rest, Piper finds herself trying rescue him and prevent him from altering past events to the extent that he changes the future and their very existence. There’s a good few twists and turns, some you may seeing coming others not, and a brilliant little teaser at the end which I’m sure eludes to a future book in the series.
This is a great book. I must admit I had to mentally prepare myself for it though. This book was emotional and gut wrenching. I finally decided to take it as it is…a book about time travel. This book is full of drama, suspense, fantasy and some hot steamy action between the H and h. There are a lot of OMG’s and WTF’s and you really need to read this one.
There is a strange phenomenon in Lake Lanier… a portal that somehow makes time travel possible.
Nick goes back in time to try and fix a mistake that has haunted him, but just maybe things will turn out worse than he could’ve expected.
Piper is drawn to Nick and will do whatever it takes to bring him back, but will they be able to make it back?
Casi McLean has written an emotional and thrilling story. The tragic events of 9/11 are respectfully depicted and play an important role in the storyline. Amy Deuchler delivered a wonderful performance. She truly brought out the emotions of the characters.

What A Ride!
This is #02 in the Lake Lanier Mysteries Series.
HEA with No cliffhangers!
I HIGHLY suggest reading them in order to get the best experience. These are too connected.
Content Advisory:
There is mild sexplay.
This involves the events of 9/11 up close and personal, and may be upsetting to some.
This story picks up right at the ending of the first. I really hope you’ve read or listened to the first one, because you won’t be lost so much as behind. You are thrust into the thick of things really quickly and the ride never stops or pauses. It’s great, but more meaningful to those that are up to speed already. And to those that think they know whats going on because of past experience, I say to you, that was only the ground work and you will still have so much to learn.
Nick Cramer and Piper Taylor shared charged moments together on the night of the big storm that was at the center of book one. They have an undeniable chemistry despite their shared opinions on falling in love. They are mystically drawn to one another, even through time.
Nick gets caught up in his past to the point he jeopardizes his future, and everyone else’s as well. I really wish I could say more because this is so good, but it would be easy to spoil something. It is an intense roller coaster ride that had my stomach in my throat in anticipation of the outcome. It ended a bit too fast, but the little nugget left in the last few words says there is a method to that madness.
Casi McLean is an author I can count on to take me on a fun but ultimately loving ride! I look forward to next one.
Amy Deuchler was excellent with all character types. Her performance aloud me to get lost in the adventure!.
Normal speed was fine.

Beyond the Mist is another great book in the Lake Lanier Mysteries series. Nick travels to the past to right a wrong but when he finds out something his actions have dire consequences. I love that we find out more about Drew and the ramifications that happened due to being born from parents from of two different times. I love how Casi McLean plays with time in this series. I’m also looking forward to the next book in the series which is alluded to in the final chapter of Beyond the Mist. This is a great time travel romantic suspense series; one that makes you think and keeps you on your toes.
I received this audiobook for free from Story Origin. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author and I loved it! This continues the story of the Reynolds family and the time portal under Lake Lanier in Georgia. I loved Lacey and Bobby’s story in Beneath The Lake. While I did not enjoy Piper and Nick as much, I loved this story. Nick takes it upon himself to go back in time to right a wrong and Piper is sent after him to keep him from changing time. They land in New York Sept 7, 2001. The story was very interesting, describing events of 911 and their reactions to it. I kept listening to see if Piper managed to keep Nick from destroying the time space continuum. Great series!!
This story is about time travel and is an eye opener with things that happened in the past, present & future. Nick Cramer uses a portal hidden beneath Atlanta’s Lake Lanier to change his mistakes and sends a ripple affect through time. Piper Taylor goes back in time to hopefully correct history and put it back on the correct path but has things she didn’t count on.
There were things in the book that made me think about what is going on now and how can we start working on the correct path to follow for our future.
I gave time travel as shot again and I was surprised at how well I enjoyed the storyline and hated to love the characters…..(Nick) …Interesting journey for a sad time in our history … Well Done Casi! where are you taking me too next?
This is book 2 of the Lake Lanier series, and I really liked the 9/11 aspect of the plot and story. The time jumping was easier to follow here than in book 1, and I liked the remembrance of that day in history and seeing how people’s lives were affected. The characters were engaging, and I felt like I was getting to know them a little better here. There are moments of happiness, sadness, regret, with a strong desire to change things.
Beyond the Mist is book 2 in the Lake Lanier Mystery series. It did not disappoint. I was drawn in by the first chapter. It starts where Beneath the Lake ended. Piper and Nick pick up in this story. I loved all the characters. They work so well together. I found myself feeling upset, shocked and then finally happiness.
Sandy has a time machine in her basement. It’s connected to the portal at the bottom of Lake Lanier. Nick goes missing. Piper is on a mission to find nick, even if it means going back in time. Several people come together to figure out how to get Piper to the past where Nick is. September 11, 2001, to be exact. The year of the collapse of the twin towers in New York City. Piper has to get to Nick before he corrects the past and changes the future. Will they be able to get her to the past? Will Piper and Nick come home safe and sound?
Casi McLean has done it again. Beyond the Mist has mystery, romance, twists and turns that I didnt see coming. I love how September 11, 2001 was involved in the book. It puts in in a whole new perspective. I highly recommend this book. I loved it.
Great second story to this series. Going back to 2001 is always a tough read, but to be able to go back and try to help. But does helping the past change the future? Nick didn’t care he wanted to go back and make a difference, and Piper wanted to go back and save Nick. Now they both have to work to get back to where they belong.
This is a great story about time travel, trying to help others, and not giving up on true love.
Love it. This is a great addition the the series. I look forward to book 3z
Time travel, romance and mystery!! What else could you ask for in a book. A great read for the second book in this series!!
I love the premise of this series–weaving time travel in with romance and suspense–and am all about a good set of secondary characters, but neither element worked as well in this installment as they did in the first. I found myself stopping and starting frequently, and I likely would’ve put the book down for good if I hadn’t been intending to review it.
Book 1 (Beneath the Lake) was a bit of a slow starter for me, but Lacey and Bobby grew on me and I ended up quite enjoying the book. Beyond the Mist is also a slow-starter… but never grew on me the same way the first did. This book picks up where book 1 left off, but with a new focus couple: Piper and Nick. I liked them just *fine* as a couple, but I also didn’t feel like I got to know them well enough to truly cheer for them.
McLean spends a lot of time rehashing past events… sort of through Piper or Nick’s memories(?). We switch tenses and times quite frequently, and there are some strange word choices and hard-to-follow descriptions and dialogue. The 2001-New-York-City-terrorist-attacks-incoming setting also didn’t connect as well for me as the trip back in time to 1950s Georgia.
Overall, Beyond the Mist just doesn’t feel quite as well written as Beneath the Lake, or perhaps the story didn’t resonate with me as much, so I noticed the writing more. The overall vibe of this book is definitely different, too. Unfortunately, I won’t be continuing this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
