Adventure waits beyond the loch… Before she became known as the Loch Ness Monster, Nessie was nothing more than a simple kelpie with big dreams. When her chance for adventure comes, she grabs it with both hands, sending her to the depths of the ocean and mountain peaks. Though none of that compares to what awaits her heart when she meets a human who still believes in magic…This story takes … believes in magic…

Such a great prequel to the Seven Wardens series. I loved reading this series and finding more about Nessie and how she met her love. She went to the kelpie world to try to find information about how to reduce or relieve her painful transitions from kelpie to human. This was a great start to this series. I have only read book 1 to this series and can’t wait to read more and read about all the wonderful adventures in them.

Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. It was a great introduction to the series. This book tells the story of Nessie who, as a curious young woman, sets out on an adventure to find answers to some questions about sea kelpies, such as how to reduce the pain of switching between her human and kelpie form. While traveling to the sea, she meets the equally curious Jonas, a human who is interested in learning more about the supernatural.
In search of adventure she climbs Ben Nevis with him, for her it is to see the sights for him, he seeks for the ghost from the story she told him. Once Jonas realizes she was lying to him and suspects she was more than she says, he becomes angry and Nessie flees. When she arrives at the domain of the Sea Kelpie under the sea, the welcome was not what she expected. When she is finally allowed to go to the open sea again, things go wrong, she roared in pain at the fisherman whose hook is in her side. She has to go back to her human form to pull it out. But shifting and pulling out the hook ultimately made no difference as it caught on her foot and she was dragged into the net. Four men looked down on her from the deck of the boat. One man recognized her, and then everything went black around her. . .
If you want to know how it goes, read this beautiful book and you can’t even wait for the next one.
I enjoyed this read very much and found the characters charming and unique.

Beautiful and Emotional History
For a short prequel story, this one packs an emotional punch. The set-up to the Seven Wardens series starts off with ghost and rival kelpies and a surprise love, and concludes with baby Macey, and a whole lots of secrets. A really exciting start to what promises to be a fantastic series.
A great prequal to the series Seven Wardens written by duo Greenwood and MacKinnon. Well written story of Nessie – a kelpie who comes to be known as the Loch Ness Monster. What a fun read and a twist on this story. A unique character / shifter for me and I very much enjoyed this storyline which I thought was a great prequal to this series and intro to characters that will become paramount in this series.

A really good prequel that explains how Jonas and Nessie meet and ended up together. Plus alludes to other things to come. It was cute and a fun read considering. It made me laugh.
The Seven Warden’s has a fantastic intro into the world. Every aspect is well developed and the small twist on the Loch Ness Monster mythos was so cool.
I HIGHLY recommend this fun quick read!!!
Great beginning to this world… I love Nessie’s adventuristic nature… everything is a grand adventure! Jonas is the perfect complement to Nessie – they both love adventure and the unknown enough to not really think through all the pitfalls because everything is part of the journey. Didn’t like the way the sea kelpies treated Nessie but it put her back in Jonas’s path. The ending was a bit sad but left out soooo much but you get the gist of what happened and feel sad but happy at the same time. Looking forward to learning more about the Kelpies of the Lochs.

Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. It was a great introduction to the series with the backstory. It gives the reader a little bit of an edge up when the read the first book and you know what is going on while the main character is clueless. I enjoyed this read and found the characters to be charming and unique. There were still plenty of questions I had by the end but knowing going in that it was part of a series just makes you eager to read the series.
Five out of five stars.

“Beyond the Loch” is the perfect opener for the “Seven Wardens” series. It gives you background, history and tells the relationship between the selkies and wardens. It also prepares you for the action, drama coming in this series. I loved it and look forward to the rest of the series.

Wow! This prequel novel is so good. Usually prequels are just a peek at events and characters who came before the main story, but this is a complete tale. A young kelpie named Vanessa, also known as Nessie (the Loch Ness monster) leaves home for dry land in order to experience more of the world (including encounters of the sexy kind) and find a way to shift forms painlessly. Based on some of the supposedly scandalous attire and modes of transportation, I think this occurs in the Victorian or Edwardian era. So, it’s not just a fantasy story, there’s a little history, too. There’s also a dash of romance, with some fade-to-black kind of love scenes.
I enjoyed all the different creature encounters: a ghost, sea kelpies, humans, and possibly a human-kelpie hybrid. Some of these were dangerous, of course, but the greatest risk is with her heart. I’m concerned about that pledge Nessie made with the sea kelpies. How will that be worked into the main series?
There were a lot of times that I wondered how this story would relate to Macey’s series, but it’s there at the end. Important information is revealed!

What a charming start to a series! If you love mythology, then this book might be for you. I love Nessie and learning about Kelpies as they are such a rare mythological creature found in stories. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Jonah was chasing ghosts when he met Nessie. Nessie was on an adventure but went with Jonah up the mountain see if there was a ghost and there was but she tried to make him think that she didn’t see one. Then ran from him to the sea kelpies so see how to help her with her problem. She went swimming and he caught her in a fishing net and stayed together.
First to note, this is a prequel. Not the beginning book to a series.
Now with that out of the way, this is a story about Nessie, not just the lockness monster, but the story behind her. Read on to find out about the magic and lore involved with the famous creature of the deep.
Nessie is a Kelpie, she lives in a loch in northern Scotland. Young and inquisitive she wants to travel, to find answers to her painful shift from human to kelpie. With her parents blessing she leaves the loch to visit the Sea Kelpies. It is rumored that they have the answers she’s seeking.
At the beginning of her travels she meets Jonas, he is a ghost hunter of sorts. Wanting adventure she climbs Ben Nevis with him, for her it’s to see the sights for him he’s looking for the ghost from the tale she’s told him.
Once Jonas realizes she lied to him and was more than she said, he became angry causing Nessie to flee. She was off to complete her journey and learn how to shift with ease.
When she arrives at the Sea Kelpie’s domain under the sea, the welcome wasn’t what she expected. They are a bit angry, and when she meets up again with Jonas he isn’t exactly pleasant either.
Plenty of excitement, some interesting folklore, an unusual romance with sizzle, and the explanation of the Seven Wardens revealed as well as some very interesting facts about Nessie.
I am already starting the next book in this series.
This is a great introduction to the seven wardens series and really gives you a feel for how Nessie was when she was younger!!
Brilliant!

This was such a short read that I just didn’t want to put it down until I turned the last page. I just fell in love with this wonderful story and it’s wonderful characters. I just couldn’t get enough of it. I will most definitely be reading more books by this wonderful author.
Wow! I love the Seven Warden series and getting to read about Macey’s mother Nessie and her dad Jonas, just awesome. Although I know the outcome and not exactly the HEA I wanted, I still loved their story.

I really enjoyed Nessie and Jonas. but their story wasn’t told! Most of the book seemed like a set up to their love story, but then it ended without telling the story. From the epilogue, apparently they loved, found the wardens, fought a war, Nessie had a child, and Jonas and everyone else died/was killed. Where is the story? I wanted to read more of the story of Nessie and Jonas, not just about how they met. Sorry, but there just wasn’t enough.

A quick yet very entertaining beginning adventure for an action packed series… was a great way to get to know some of the charters back story. Great read!
I have gazed on the waters of Loch Ness, read its ancient legends and scientific studies about it, but it never occurred to me that the Loch Ness monster might be a kelpie. It’s a magical, mist-shrouded land with tales of mythical creatures, selkies and sea serpents, so why not a water horse who becomes Aunt Nessie, doting relative, infamous monster.
This story captures the naivete of a young woman experiencing the harsh reality of two worlds not her own, the human world and the sea kelpie one. It also gives us romance, youthful hope, and a hidden world of magical beings.
Beyond the Loch is the prequel to the Seven Wardens series. A young land kelpie, Vanessa, wants to see the world and learn from the sea kelpies. She will find romance and pain, love and loss in the human world, and gain a daughter. And the adventure is just beginning.
