He arrived on a warm summer’s day… something precious.
I’m twenty. He’s thirty-eight.
He’s back but doesn’t know I’ve grown to love him more with every passing year.
Just like the ocean we both adore, Malakai is mysterious, tumultuous, dangerous, and not to be tamed. But this time I’m going to keep him. This time I’m going to make him stay.
**This is a standalone, age gap, contemporary romance with high heat levels and a love story that might just make you weep. Recommended for 17+ readers due to adult content and language.

From the moment I first met Malakai and Connie in Family, I have been hoping for their story to be written. These two characters drew me in from the moment they were introduced and I wanted to know why they reacted as they did in Family. This book is their story. It is heartbreaking, emotional, raw, and is the best thing that Bea Paige has written to date. I love Connie. She knows what she wants and she is going to go after it. Malakai is broken in all the right ways and because of his background is hesitant to love. Watching them breakdown their barriers is gut-wrenching at times, but the writing is beautifully done and keeps you wanting more. I went through a gamut of emotions reading this from crying ugly tears to smiling to all the warm feelings. These two will break your heart and rebuild it again by the end of the book. There are appearances and/or mentions of characters from other series and I love all of the connections. It is always wonderful to be reunited with beloved characters and though they are brief, it is still nice. There is a rather large age gap between Malakai and Connie, but for them it works and is beautiful. This is an addicting and beautiful story that you will not be able to put down.
I have read all of Bea Paige’s books, but I think Beyond the Horizon may be my new favorite book of hers. I don’t read a ton of age gap romance, but this is age gap romance done right. This story is so beautifully written and the emotional depth of these characters is truly on a whole other level.
We first meet Connie and Malakai in the Academy of Misfits series so I would recommend reading that first especially if you want to know more backstory on the King and Malakai’s family. Connie and Malakai’s love story spans over several years and is definitely not an easy story. There is so much push/pull and tension between them and at times I felt like my heart was aching right along with Connie. I don’t know how Bea does it, but every time I read one of her books I feel like I’m right in the story with the characters. I very rarely cry while reading, but I always seem to find myself tearing up while reading Bea’s books because I’m so invested in these stories and characters. Highly highly highly recommend checking out Beyond the Horizon (and all of Bea Paige’s other books.)
I absolutely loved this emotional story! This might be my favorite story that Bea has written and age gap romance has a special place in my heart.
Connie is a small island girl who has already experienced much grief in her eighteen years, but fights for what she wants. Malakai is a loner with a dangerous and tragic past, barely keeping himself in check to do what he thinks is right. Their connection was forbidden for many reasons and their chemistry and tension was explosive. Their story was a constant battle filled with lust, struggle, heart wrenching moments, courage, loss, determination, and love. I think what I loved most about Malakai was that he did terrible things to protect the woman he loved. I liked Lola and Ma Silva, they were great supporting characters with a lot of love and fire for those they cared for.
I read this book in one setting because I was so emotionally invested that I couldn’t put it down. I felt every single emotion from Connie and Malakai that my heart both broke and rejoiced repeatedly. Bea has a way of making characters and their stories break your heart, but you can’t help but crave more of their brokenness, destructiveness, hope, and desires. I’m really sad that their story is over and wasn’t spread out into a series, but this is definitely a book that I’ll be rereading many times over and over again!
Totally loved it!
I do like age gap romance and this one is one of the best I ever read. Actually it doesn’t matter the age gap, it’s one of the most breathtaking love stories I’ve read.
I enjoyed a lot the story of Malakai and Connie. How they are attracted to each other but very afraid to act on it. Especially Malakai. There’s a captivating story regarding these characters, complicated background somehow but they are so right for each other!
Connie is 18 and also full of hopes and dreams. She’s sweet, determined, good-hearted and determined and Malakai is a hot alpha male that will do everything to not fall for her and protect her from evil and from him. They have undeniable chemistry. Everytime they are together sparks fly and the sexual tension is high.
Beautifully written, I can’t wait for more books like this one from this author! <3
“Like the ocean, Connie Silva stirred up long-forgotten feelings within me and just like those mythical creatures that sailors still tell tales about to this day, my Little Siren called to something within me.”
Alright, this story has a ton of feels and lots of unrequited feelings that did a number to my poor heart. I don’t know how Connie could stay the way she is, then again, it’s a testament to her character’s strong and resilient personality. Malakai is one hell of a stubborn alpha male, I could tell you that. I love the guy but sometimes he made me a bit mad with his stubborn attitude. I know he has a lot of excess baggage, but damn it, the girl loves you baggage and all! Argh!
With all of these, however, Connie has remained true and showed Malakai the road to redemption; that he is capable of love and being loved. Their love story is fraught with obstacles with seemingly no light in the end, but once again, true love will always prevail. I loved it!
She knew the moment he rose from the sea that he was “The one”.
Nothing mattered except the feelings he stirred within her.
He saw the past in her appearance, and instantly felt the pull towards her but he fought with all his might to stay away.
Ohhh my poor heart has certainly been put through the wringer with this!
I welled up at the distance between their hearts and the time that they lost.
Whispered Goodbyes devastated me and left my heart in bits. I could see how right they were for each other, and how good they could be.
Amazing and insightful, full of true passion and pain. It’s simply beautiful yet such a heartbreaking story told from the soul of one of my favourite authors. Different than what I’m used to from her but more than welcome all the same.
If you have read her “Academy of misfits” trilogy then you NEED this it’s as simple as that! and if you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for!!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
I have to say that I really enjoy these books that share a world but can stand on their own. We met Connie and Malakai briefly in the Academy of Misfits series which is highlighted in this book as well but now we get their story. Connie is a new adult when she meets Malakai for the first time. He is years older then her though which gives him pause. Add in some past history on top of his own personal demons to make it that much worse in his mind. She knows better though so she doesn’t give up even when he constantly does his disappearing act. An emotionally riveting romance that will keep you captivating until the very end. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
If you are looking for a unique book to read, then you will find it in Bea Paige’s new release: BEYOND THE HORIZON. The beautiful writing drew me in right from the start. I could picture the private beach where Connie Silva was enjoying the peaceful place all to herself. She thought this beach brought her pure happiness. Happy to be alive. Then her eyes saw a man in the water. All she could do was watch in surprise and then admiration and awe, as his strong shoulders and powerful arms cut through the water right towards her. When he is closer to shore, she holds her breathe as he stands upright, water running in rivulets over his skin as he swipes his dark hair off his forehead to reveal a face that is terrifying beautiful. Her grandmother had told her that she was empathic. That she had the ability to know when both good and bad things were going to happen, and could understand the feelings of others as well as share those feelings. As Connie gazed at this god of a man, she knew deep down inside that he is the one.
Connie’s heart broke, when he looked at her and walked away without a word spoken. Not at all deterred, she followed and would not be ignored. She learned his name was Malakai Azaiah Dunbar and he was no Prince Charming. He is a loner, a drifter, and a man who preferred the wide open expanse of the ocean than human company. He is twice her age. She reminds him of a girl he once loved and is all kinds of off-limits. Not to mention she’s the daughter of his best friend and the girl he loved more than life itself. She is so off-limits and forbidden. He would need to put a whole ocean between himself and Connie Silva. No matter what he told himself there is an undeniable attraction between the two. Connie was not aware that there truly was love at first sight, but she was feeling it now. Maybe she was lonely. Maybe she was delusional. Yet she believed that this untouchable, unreachable, unobtainable man is her soulmate. Add to this that her Grandmother told her the women in their family were cursed in love.
This is an epic love story. And the author said, “Sometimes, the kind of love we dream of can only be found within the pages of a book. I can’t give you your own happily ever after, but I can give you theirs.”
I’m not usually a fan of age gap romance, especially when it is a 16 year gap, but I loved the glimpse we saw of Malakai and Connie in Family, and decided I needed to see their story. This story takes place largely about 2 years before the events in Family. Connie is 18 and she sees and falls for Malakai instantly. They are both broken, and their journey is to find happiness is not easy. It is heart-wrenching and beautiful. Connie starts out a bit innocent, but in Part 2 of the book, she really starts coming into her own. She has a quiet, rock-steady fierceness. I loved this story and their journey!
From the tiny introduction to Malakai and Connie in Family I have been dying to discover their story. I was not left dissatisfied. The chemistry leaps off of the pages and their love for each other’s screams wanting to be heard. Two souls lost at sea that finally find their way home.
No spoilers of any kind included.
I thought Beyond The Horizon was pretty great.
It kept my attention all throughout the story.
But then again all of Bea Paige’s books keep my attention when I climb into one.
So yes I do recommend this book.

Loved it!
I love a good age gap read and this didn’t disappoint. Malakai and Connie are great characters and the storyline is fantastic. There’s plenty of angst and heartbreaking moments for Connie but she’s a strong and feisty girl who won’t give up on Malakai no matter how hard he fights their attraction.
Beyond The Horizon is a spin-off from Bea Paige’s Academy Of Misfits Trilogy. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I feel part of it would have been clearer/meant more if I’d read the trilogy first. Which I didn’t. I still loved it and highly recommend it!
Bea has done it again with her amazing writing skills. She had my heart in my throat and my emotions everywhere. Connie and Malakai’s story is one that will stay with you. Connie fell for him a long time ago and was sure he was the one for her except he was older and life had other plans. We learn about their history and all the messed up things they still have to go through before there is happiness. These two have so much chemistry it’s crazy hot. I don’t want to give away too much of the story I will say this if you have not read books by this author you are truly missing out on something amazing. Every book I have read by her has been one I couldn’t help but love. She’s always seems to know how to pick a fabulous story to write about.
LOVE!!!! I am 100% so happy we got to read about Connie and Malakai’s story. Man it can grip your heartstrings! Connie was young when they met but I’m so glad she grew into a fierce woman. A woman who goes after exactly what she wants! I know in the story the author wrote that nothing in life is certain and that we should live each day to the fullest and I couldn’t agree more! Don’t forget to LIVE!!!
Bea you have quite literally outdone yourself here with this one more so then with any of your other works i loved malaki and connies story it was amazing gut wrenching and many other things all in one lol im all over the place as of now just finished the book and need time to process but wanted all these words to get out 😀 i devoured my way through this book from start to finish and didnt stop till i hit the end lol bea your master of writing no matter what it is you write and you destroyed me you bloody awesome woman you keep up the fantastic work!!!
What a great romantic and heartbreaking read for Malakai and Connie. Their story will have you so consumed, you will not want to put down your kindle. Ever since seeing them in a previous book, you will be needing to know why they reacted the way they do. So we get their story in Beyond the Horizon, and it does not disappoint at all.
So get ready for an emotional read. You will be given moments of heartbreak, love, and trying times. You will feel raw at some points, just like the characters.
Connie is a great character, she knows what she wants and will definitely go after it.
Malakai is just how I like my main leads, he is broken in some way with a past hurt.
Watching them come together and their story unfold was a beautiful journey that will break your heart and put it back together. I very much recommend reading this book.
Wow this book brought every emotion available out of me. I felt everything I cried, I laughed and man I was so angry with Malakia but how that man got under my skin. This is a captivating, exciting and exhilarating book Malakia and Connie’s story is breath taking. You will be blown away by how fantastic it is. You will not be disappointed reading this.
Wow.
Bea Paige absolutely knocked this one out of the park for me. From the very beginning of Connie and Malakai’s story I was transfixed.
The story was woven together so beautifully it felt like music to your soul.
This story is so many things; shocking, heartbreaking, heart racing, clench-your-fists frustrating and just absolute utter perfection.
Powerful & Amazing Love Story!!!
Once again I am blown away by Bea’s amazing writing. This story sucked me right in. It was compelling, heartbreaking yet heartwarming, and full of HEAT! I think this is my favorite book of Bea’s so far! Connie and Malakai’s story is very powerful and at times difficult to read, but so worth it! Faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles and many ghosts from the past, their love perseveres and they get their hard won HEA. Fantastic job as always Ms. Paige!!! Bravo!
