A sleeping dragon wakes earlier than her parents planned and wants to have fun. She doesn’t want to mate with the sexy dragon male who hangs around the bar where she works. Neither are looking for love, but it found them. So did trouble. Book 3 in Reus’ excellent Darkness series, but easily read as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this story. Bran was a wonderful character, I thought Keelin was going to be annoying but she turned out to be pretty likable. Overall a very good read and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Beyond the Darkness is the 3rd installment in the Darkness series by Katie Reus. You don’t have to read the 1st 2 books to enjoy this book, but I think the reader would enjoy it more with the rest of the back story.
Keelin Petronilla was forced into centuries of hibernation after the disappearance of her brother Drake from Taste of Darkness #2. After she came out of hibernation she ditched her clan to tend bar in Bo Broussard’s shifter club.
Bran Devlin is a former black ops agent. He is an alpha dragon shifter, who knows from his internal beast that Keelin is meant to be his mate. Keelin is not on board with that as she just left over protection and is looking to be in control of herself, having fun and her looking to her future.
I love the imagination that Katie Reus has and the way she uses it to bring these books to us. She doesn’t disappoint.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.
Whenever I get the opportunity to read this author I sure do but not always in the order I would like. It is worlds I get much enjoyment from that this author overrides wanting turning into have to with in I jump. I adore the worlds with dragons with this one having just that. Keelin yearned for one thing and when that happened she went her path that will pick your curiosity. You know there has to be something that causes the adrenaline to pick up for a reader with danger being that in here that comes after her. Then you get to see some banter because of stubbornness that also goes hand in hand with the one whom wants to help her. Bran cause us to sit right up with this now going into hyper drive turning those pages. When I see where this all lands I was one happy camper for reading this out of order for me.
An Outstanding Paranormal Romance . I volunteered through Netgallery to read an advanced readers copy of Beyond The Darkness . Dragon shifters , wolf shifters , half demons , Demi gods and vampires this story has them all . Keelin is a dragon shifter she works at Bo Broussards supernaturals only club . After being in protective hibernation for hundreds of years she wants her independence and moved to Alpha Finn Stavros territory in Biloxi where she lives with the pack . While Keelin and her friends Nyx and Ophelia go out to the shifter fights .
Little does she know she is in danger .
Bran Devlin has arrived in Biloxi for two reason Keelin is one and investigating the disappearance and killing of dragons is the second . Bran is going to convince Keelin she is his mate . Soon it’s apparent Keelin is being hunted and the attraction is smoking hot between Bran an Keelin .
They enlist their friends and relatives and some questionable allies for information and assistance . This story is fantastic really action packed , intense , suspenseful , intriguing . It keeps you on the edge of your seat . I highly recommend reading this story .
I really enjoyed this story
3.5 rating
This book picks up a month after the previous book. Bran is the alpha of his clan and meets Keelin, who has recently been reunited with her family after being presumed dead. Bran realise she is his mate but Keelin doesn’t want to be a mate. Even though she doesn’t want a mate she still spends time with him and we get a lot of nice scenes of them together. Eventually she realizes that she has feelings for him and gives in to being his mate. These two really worked and complemented each other.
Reus created great characters, a solid plot and storyline and a very satisfying epilogue. I can’t wait to read more of this series.
Keelin has slowly been acclimating to the big bad world, away from the sheltered mollycoddling of her parents and clan. Sure she might get a tad lonely now and then but her independence is worth it. But the unsettling feelings around Bran…she’s just not ready to admit what they mean. Now her parents have also woken from their hibernation and Keelin fears being swept back behind the iron curtain they think she needs to protect her from the world!
Bran is a bad%%% former covert ops soldier. He is also a powerful alpha trying to foster alliances with other clans. Whilst the Petronilla clan would be great allies, he doesn’t want a political alliance, he just wants Keelin. But she is timid and insecure in her feelings for him, so he is willing to go slow to ensure he wins her!
Loving this series. Great mix of dragons, wolves, demons, hybrids and even a few Gods and demi-Gods thrown in. Passion and romance go hand in hand with the suspense and neither storyline takes precedence at the detriment of the other.
Another fantastic PNR Dragon shifter romance with tons of page turning, action packed, mysterious attacks, along with tons of chemistry between Keelin and Bran trying to fight the Mating call. Can they work thru all of this and come out on top…Loved it.
It just doesn’t get any better than this! I adore an alpha hero, especially a dragon, who chases the heroine and man, Bran gave Keelin a freaking wonderful chase.
After thousands of years in hibernation, Keelin is ready to live life. Even her time before hibernation was sheltered and she’s never had real freedom to do as she pleases. But just as she sets about to do that, trouble comes knocking, along with the Alpha dragon who has intrigued her since she met him a month ago.
Keelin was an awesome heroine. She was smart and fiesty and while she might not have had physical strength to combat the enemy, she had a heart full of determination when Bran was in danger. Due to her upbringing, she has an air of innocence about her, but nothing over the top. I loved that she led Bran on one heck of a chase, and she didn’t even realize she was doing it.
Holy heck! What else can I say about Bran other than: freaking perfect hero! Every single one of my boxes was checked and then double checked with him. I don’t know why I’m always so delighted to find this autor’s heroes to be so perfect, because they are…every single time. And more so the ones in this series.
Together this couple are trying to solve a bit of a mystery that ties in with someone who is out to get Keelin. Where this leads will have you in a bit of shock and awe. I loved watching Keeling and Bran fall in love as this story is spread out before us. There is a lot of action and adventure, as well as the perfect amount of humor. And of course, there is plenty of fire breathing steam between this couple. They literally set the pages on fire each time they come together with a steady stream of sizzling goodness in between.
Fast paced, always well written, with a lead in for Bo and Nyx’s story as well as a great epilogue! As I said, it just doesn’t get any better than this!
It’s really hard not say every hero in this series is my new favorite because this series has some really awesome heroes!
Bran is a dragon shifter and the alpha of his clan. He meets Keelin when his brother and his brother’s wife visited the Petronilla clan. Bran’s dragon recognized Keelin as his mate immediately. Unfortunately, Keelin isn’t so keen on a mate.
Keelin is Drake’s sister who was the hero in book 2. After Drake was presumed dead, her family and clan smothered Keelin with their overprotectiveness. In Beyond Darkness, Drake is back and happy and now Keelin realizes she needs to gain some independence. She decides to go stay with the Stavros pack where Drake’s mate lived.
I worried that Keelin’s need for independence would mean she would push Bran away too much. I’m not the biggest fan of pushing away. But. Even though she makes it very clear she is not mating, she isn’t opposed to getting to know Bran casually. Due to this, we get to see some quality time with these two together.
Bran is deliciously possessive with Keelin. There are some great scenes where is displays that jealously. He’s also very protective of her, but not to a point of smothering. Keelin is more of a fragile dragon shifter which causes the protectiveness to come from others. She’s not a warrior and smaller than most other dragon shifters. Even though she isn’t a fighter, she’s got the mind of a leader. These two compliment each other very well.
We got a good start to Nyx and Bo’s relationship who are the main couple in the next book. I think I already know what Nyx’s mom is going to demand of her and I’m really looking forward to how Bo is going to handle that. Off to the next book…
My Thoughts – 5 out of 5 Unicorns – I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I bought this book back in 2015, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I own this whole series and many other books by Katie Reus!
The cover is very subdued, and you would know it is paranormal except for the small dragon that gives you a hint.
This is Keelin and Bran’s story! Keelin is Drake and Conall’s sister, and Bran is the Devlin Clan’s Alpha. Keelin is staying in Biloxi because she wanted some freedom. A month later, Bran shows up. There is all sorts of drama, fights, danger, and as usual demons trying to hurt them. This time Keelin is the target, but they are trying to figure out why. This was another action-packed book, but I don’t want to give anything away, but we have lots of new faces who show up. We also have some favorites from the other books who return like Finn, Vega, Drake, Rhea, Conall, and Victoria! I love this world and how they are making alliances and helping each other out!
I highly recommend to any paranormal fans who love complex worlds filled with all types of being, action, fights, treachery, mystery, intrigue, and mating fire!
This is a great book and a great series. I would definitely recommend it.
