In this captivating teen novel, Sydney Logan weaves a touching story that tackles the heartbreak of addiction, the power of forgiveness, and the wonders of first love.

This is Sydney Logan’s tenth novel, and I’ve read enough of her books over the years to know that her story will be a good one. Sydney is a master of sweet romance, an author that can captivate this middle-aged wife and mom with a love story set in high school between two teens. Sydney’s talent at immersing the reader right back into the highs and lows of adolescence is effortless.
Between the Raindrops is the story of seventeen-year-old Scout Ramsey. Scout should be enjoying her high school years, but she knows little of normal family life. Her father has passed away, and her mother has been arrested, leaving Scout little choice but to move in with an estranged relative and start over at a new school. When she shows up to history class and sits in the chair normally occupied by Wyatt Campbell, Scout meets the boy destined to change the course of her life.
This novel perfectly balances the light hearted giddiness of first love along with the dark subject of addiction and its ripple effects on family and community. Between the Raindrops doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of life, but this isn’t an angsty novel that leaves you feeling like all is lost. Rather, this book has that special ability to fill you with hope and longing for the HEA that Wyatt and Scout deserve.
Over time, Sydney Logan has become one my automatic one-click authors, building up high expectations in me. Between the Raindrops did not disappoint in any way. I happily recommend this book to adults and teens alike, confident that both will connect with its characters and their story.
I haven’t read a good YA in a minute, but I have to say that this one made me keep reading, even when I knew I should put it down! Heartbreaking, heartwarming, and beautifully written, I don’t know why I waited so long to read it!!
Simply breathtaking – I loved this story! I downloaded the book based on the striking cover and was not disappointed. The story reflects on some hard truths and the hard reality of life. Sometimes love just isn’t enough or is it? I would highly recommend this great story.
Between the Raindrops by Sydney Logan is a wonderfully written story about growing up with a parent who has a drug addition. Scout is a 17 year old girl who is smart and wise beyond her years. She has to move in with her uncle in a small town and finish high school in a different school. She meets Zoie and her twin brother Wyatt. Friendships form, hopefully healing can start.
This story will have you crying and smiling along with the characters. I was very moved by the resilience that Scout possesses. She is amazing. I feel that I know her and all the other characters in the book. They have become my friends – the story is that well written. I highly recommend this book It is inspirational and gives insight to addition and abuse.
Sweet love story about a girl with a jacked up family and the boys who loves her and supports her regardless. Love how it She perseveres despite her family. Easy to read 🙂 Story flows rather naturally
Wow pass the tissues you have this sweet girl her dad dies and her mom is a drug addict and tries to sell her for meth so she goes to jail and the only person that takes her in is a uncle she never met. She meets a boy at school they both have secrets but can he be the one that help her thru hers.
Scout has been dealt a horrible hand. Between her dad and her mother, neither around to help her through high school. Scout is sent to live with an uncle that takes her only because she is his brother’s daughter. Scout’s life there is only made better by a friend, her friend’s brother Wyatt, and their parents. If not for their support, she probably would not have made it. Ms. Logan does an awesome job of writing about a possible real-life situation. She gives Scout strength and courage to do the right thing and shows that when you really want something and try, anything is possible.
This book is so well written. The story is ‘real’ and hits so many emotions. I was sad, angry & cursed. I laughed, smiled & felt joy. Scout is an amazing Heroine. Wyatt is an amazing Hero. The two of them together are more than words can describe. I would definitely recommend this book to ANYONE that loves a good romance surrounded by some very real subjects. I’ll be recommending this to my daughters. Added to my list of all time favorites.
Lets just say I have read a lot of books that go into a lot of different and hard topics. This book, this book let me tell you nearly crushed me. It is so insanely well written, but not just in the sense of grammar but it was all so hard hit-tingly real.
The emotions, the times in her life, the events, everything except the romance side of it all, are like true life events. I cried, I laughed, I smiled, I cried a whole lot more, then I put a 5 star up!
Scout deals with the loss of her father. She deals with the neglect of her junkie mother, the abuse there in of having a junkie for a mother of not having enough to eat and everything else that falls in comparison to the drugs….
Scout then gets sent to her Uncle who then ignores her, then physically abuses her.
She finds a friend and a Love in Wyatt and his twin sister Zoie, and their whole family end up becoming her saving grace. They take over as her family in all the ways that arr important.
Wyatt pretty much does and will do anything for this broken girl he spots and decides has something he needs in his life. They fast become inseparable though the relationship progresses, its done in such a way that doesn’t make Scout uncomfortable or move to fast for her.
This story really is so amazing.
I’ve always stayed away from YA. I’ve always found the characters hormonal and annoying. Even when I was in high school, reading the intense emotions, the life or death feelings, for something so small was always annoying. So, I skipped over the majority of young adult romances and fiction. However, I read the blurb for this book and knew I wanted to read it, despite the characters being in high school. I haven’t read Sydney Logan before, so this sure was one hell of an introduction to her writing.
Scout is so amazingly strong. When her world falls apart, and literally too- not just the “I’m going to die, my life is ruined” feeling you have when you’re 17- she does her best to pick herself up off the floor. When her life seems to get worse instead of better, she tries to look for the future instead. She counts down the days until she’s eighteen, instead of focusing on the storm brewing around her.
Wyatt is such a good guy. The teenager in me is totally in love with him. Once he’s of age, that boy is mine. He finds himself curious about Scout, while also wanting to protect her. Since they have almost every class together, it works out well when they’re in school, and when they’re at work (since they work together too). The only time he can’t protect her is when she’s at her uncle’s house, though he does everything he can to try to get her at his house…
And Wyatt’s family, though worried about how obsessive and possessive he is of Scout, open her with arms wide open. They don’t judge her for her mother’s past, or for the situation she found herself in. Wyatt’s parents and sister become her family, and it is so beautiful. You find yourself rooting for Wyatt and Scout as much as you do for Scout and her second family, the one she chose. And when she has to chose between a rock and a hard place, she makes the decision you hate she has to make, but know she has to do it.
But I kept wanting to cry out for Scout. HOW MUCH CAN ONE GIRL GO THROUGH?! God, every time I turned the page I kept hoping for everything to be ok, even though I knew her problems couldn’t magically disappear. Scout, though, I think is much stronger than me. Every time, every single time, she is knocked down in her life, she gets back up and is stronger than before. Any way I could petition for this to be a series? Following these two to college? Or how about an extended epilogue- one where they’re happily married? *Enter crying gif here*
Wow! Just wow! What a truly emotional journey for this young lady. 17 years old and she is ripped from her home and put in another until she turns 18. While this move brings both sorrow and joy for her, she finds an amazing best friend who gives her a family as well. The Campbell family opens their hearts and their homes to her to show her that there are people she can trust and that she can love someone. Wyatt is so amazing in how he has this instant connection to Scout. He becomes her protector, friend and boyfriend. This book was truly some insight to the realities of what some young children and families face. Her strength, her courage and her hope bring her through to start a new chapter in her life with an amazing young man by her side.
This book grabbed my heart from the first page and did not let go! My heart broke for 17-year-old Scout when she faced the depth of her mom’s betrayal of her and burst as she found her true self. Following her mom’s betrayal, Scout finds everything in her life changing as she is forced to go live with an uncle who doesn’t care about her. As the changes in her life occur, Scout meets Wyatt and his wonderful family who do their best to help her.
Ms. Logan masterfully weaved a story of heartbreak, growing up, finding love, and finding oneself. Taking delicate topics, this author handled them with care while delivering a powerful story that shows all hope is never completely gone. Ms. Logan delivers a raw, honest story that is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish and while this is a story that ended with tears rolling down my face, this will be one I read again and again. It deserves more than 5 stars that is the best book I have read in 2018!
Between the Raindrops was a great read. It was an emotional read with it’s ups and down. Scout has had it tough. Her father passed away and her mom is a drug addict. I thought when her mom gets arrest and she goes to live with her uncle (who’s a Dr.) everything was going to start to be great for her but it’s not. Scout does meet two amazing twins, Wyatt and Zoie. Zoie and Scout hit it off right away and Scout could really use a friend so that was perfect. Wyatt on other hand for a brief moment comes off jerky but that’s totally not how he is. While Zoie and Scout become friends, Scout and Wyatt become more than friends. With her relationships with peers her age goign good she’s still not save from her home life. Scout is a really strong likable character. I was really rooting for her to get her happiness.
Scout is a pained and quiet girl who thinks her life feeling cold and hungry is complicated until her mother tries to sell her to a cop and get arrested, from there the girl’s life transforms. She now needs to live in a stranger’s home and finish school in an unfamiliar town.
She ends up catching the attention of the rebellious Wyatt, smart guy who feels like a fish out of water at school and is crazy to everyone leaves him quiet in his world and little caring what people think of him. As he approaches the mysterious new girl, he finds a balance and a sense of protection he never imagined he would feel.
Scout ends up finding good people and approaching Wyatt helps her in a way she never imagined. But life is not so simple and Scout will still suffer enough until she finds the strength to face the obstacles.
I am passionate about Sydney Logan’s writing and did not think twice when I saw that her new novel was a genre I love that is Young Adult. She created a different plot with a message that surprised me because I imagined she was following a line of thought and ended up showing me that she wanted to show the strength and maturation of the young characters. But I think she’s exaggerated a bit in the drama and raised a lot of different themes at the same time and may have left the dramas of the others characters to another book. I still recommend it too much.
This is my first book by Sydney Logan. I wish I would have known about her earlier. This book was so good even though it has such a dark side to it. I immediately was hooked on the book from the first chapter. Each character was written with such description and detail that you could relate to them. It may also be more close to my heart after being on a domestic violence board of directors. I could relate to so much that was written.
This story is about Scout Ramsey who has a miserable life with her father dead and her mom a drug addict. In the final straw, Scout’s mom tried to see her for a bag of meth. Scout is sent to her uncle’s to live and start school. She is desperately looking forward to the time she is 18 to get away from everyone. While in school, she mets Wyatt Campbell who ends up being her savior. Wyatt wonders what Scout is always writing in her journal and begins to hear about the life Scout has been living. As they become closer, it’s Wyatt’s mission to make sure nothing else bad happens to Scout.
This was a wonderfully written book showing another side of what drugs do. On this side, you see a young women having to deal with what her mom has created. Along the way, she is abused and faces sadness and loneliness but continues on as brave as she can. The book also had a few twist and turns that keeps your attention.
