In this delightful companion novel to Off the Page, #1 New York Times bestselling authors Jodi Picoult and her daughter and cowriter, Samantha van Leer, present the YA novel that started it all Filled with romance, adventure, and humor, the magic jumps off the page (literally) in a story you’ll never forget. What happens when happily ever after…isn’t? Delilah is a bit of a loner who prefers … is a bit of a loner who prefers spending her time in the school library with her head in a book–one book in particular. Between the Lines may be a fairy tale, but it feels real. Prince Oliver is brave, adventurous, and loving. He really speaks to Delilah.
And then one day Oliver actually speaks to her. Turns out, Oliver is more than a one-dimensional storybook prince. He’s a restless teen who feels trapped by his literary existence and hates that his entire life is predetermined. He’s sure there’s more for him out there in the real world, and Delilah might just be his key to freedom.
A romantic and charming story, this companion novel to Off the Page will make every reader believe in the fantastical power of fairy tales.more
‘Just so you know when they say “once upon a time”…they’re lying. It’s not once upon a time. It’s not even twice upon a time. It’s hundred of times, over and over, every time someone opens up the pages of this dusty old book.’
This book was good and well written but it wasn’t anything amazing. On my rating scale I gave it a 3 because I enjoyed it however in terms of amazing literature it wasn’t anything extra special.
You have 2 main character – Prince Oliver (the prince in the book) and Delilah (the reader of the book). These two characters have an insta love which I loathe! When there is no substance to a relationship it’s heartbreaking. People don’t just fall in love because they’re eyes are the colour of honey and they’re lips are soft. It’s disappointing when a book writes about characters being in love when there is absolutely no real and rounded reason for them to be in love.
The book was really well written but it’s basically one big fluff piece. It’s not shocking or anything you can guess where it’s leading since it has a happy ending. It has no substance, no back bone it’s a bare story laid out on the page for a reader to follow along and hopefully enjoy.
In terms of this being a Young Adult book I’d tend to disagree, I’d say this more falls into the category of Middle Grade ever if she’s 15 I felt the way the story was told and the fact that it was a very light story felt too young for the intended audience.
If your looking for something light, fluffy with no core substance than this is for you it’s an easy day long read that leaves you with mixed feelings about the content. Regardless I’m glad I read it despite not being the biggest fan.
Best YA story I have ever read. Mind-stretching, wonderful romp that breaks through the theatrical fourth wall to bring reader and author together in the magic of storytelling.
Read half of the book and couldn’t get into it. Not for me.
This is kind of a book between 2 worlds. There are 2 books in the series. I thought it was very well written and I enjoyed reading a fantasy book for a change.
I sat in the Wal Mart close to my house waiting for someone and lost myself in this book. I felt a connection to the main character because I know the feeling of not understanding why you are so attached to a book and wanting so badly for the main character to be able to come into your life. I would defiantly pass this book on to others as well as one day read it to my own children for the great imagination that was put into such a fun and inspirational book.
This was the first book that I read with my daughter. She would read a few pages and then I would and it began her love of books. This will always hold a special place in my heart for that alone. I also love how this story came about. Jodi and her own daughter came together on this book as well and produced fantastic story with imagination I only wish I had.
Her books are awesome
