**** SPOILER ALERT ****
Wendigos, and Succubi, and Leprechauns, OH MYY!! Taylor and Salidas pull out all the stops in “Between: ( Running From The Devil: Book Two )” as Phoebe, Smoke and Adam try to stop the Fey Mafia from completing a hostile takeover of both the Earthly and Hellish realms. The writing duo continue the fine job of word building and character development in the second installment of this series. I couldn’t put this entertaining book down from page One to page the Last. I can hardly wait to dive into book three of the series.
Q; Can Phoebe save Adam’s relationship with Samantha after he encounters a succubus?
A: Grab this book, read it, and find out!
In the interest of transparency: I was given a review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.
This 2nd book gets better than the 1st Beneath. Things don’t just happily and easily fall into place for Phoebe. If she wants her soul back she will have to work for it. Adam comes across wimpy and weak when he doesn’t bounce back very quickly. Not that you can blame him. Smoke makes it sound like life as a demon eating cat could be fun and entertaining.
Again Katie’s books just keep getting better and better it dosen’t matter what the series is. I like “Between” her 2nd book in the (Running from the Devil series) even more than the 1st, not surprising, there is more detail and more understanding about Phoebe’s relationship with her boss Adam. Phoebe has a place of her own and Smoke the snarky cat is there with her. In the first book she is on her way to winning her soul back by taking down two of the seven sins. This book she may be able to take two more of the seven reducing the number to getting her soul back. The fea’s and demons are ganging up to wreak havoc on NYC. Succubus and Incubus oh my, Phoebe has her hands full. And our fearless author is giving us another amazing read in book 2 with also some heart, compassion. I don’t care if it was a succubus or a drug, rape is rape and Fate is quite compassionate towards Adam. At least Phoebe is learning how to watch her mouth but lets some snark fly along with Smoke the cat. To the author’s credit, details of the incident are not described and I feel she handled it well except for a few snarky comments. If this sort of thing bothers you, you may want to fast forward a little. That being said I loved this book and Katie Salidas & J.E. Taylor did a great job with the story. You will not be disappointed in picking up a copy of Between.
I was given a free copy of the book from StoryOrigin in exchange for an honest review.
A succubus, an incubus, fae, and leprechauns. Phoebe’s next assignment involves many different magical beings, all working together to take over the Earth and Fae Realms. She can take down the succubus and the incubus but she needs to take down the leader. And this job puts Adam’s girlfriend in danger. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good vs evil. This is a fast action packed rollercoaster of thrills. You don’t know what to expect next. Phoebe is constantly learning living above. She is trying to earn redemption. Will she persevere? Can’t wait to see what is going on with her in the next book.
Love the action and all the unique elements in this story. I’d definitely recommend reading book 1 first for the full story. Phoebe is doing a good job of growing and learning. She’s becoming more capable, and on her way to becoming someone truly worth redemption. After being in Hell so long, she’s done a great job of maintaining a good heart. She’s still got a lot of Fate’s tasks to complete, but she’s making her way through them as best as she can.
This book has Phoebe dealing with Succubus and Incubus, which aren’t my favorite to read about; too rape oriented for me, so I preferred book 1’s bad guys more. Still an entertaining and fun story; Phoebe is a great character that I can root for. I was disappointed there wasn’t more to what happened for Phoebe to lose her soul; I was expecting something more grand. Still love all the demon fighting and such, and the world building is interesting. I’m not a huge fan of Adam and his girlfriend; she seems like a shrew and Adam a moron for being with someone like that, but I suppose it works for them.
Overall, Between is a fun, unique adventure with many interesting elements. Excited for the next book!
I really enjoyed this thrilling second book in the series. Still striving to regain her soul, Phoebe continues to do Faith’s bidding in order to try to gain redemption. Not only must she face an old adversary and a human-killing succubus, but also the bigger threat that is lurking in the background. This is a great story and you easily become wrapped up in Phoebe’s struggles and life. I love her interaction with Smoke and am dying to know more of his history and who he actually is. Adam continues to be big hearted but you do wonder why he loves his somewhat shrewish girlfriend, though towards the end of the book you can’t help but feel for her a bit. This is an enjoyable, entertaining story that has lots of action, humour, intrigue, drama and some revelations about Phoebe’s past. I look forward to seeing what challenges she will have to face in book three.
Exciting Until the Very End
Wow, just wow. This book sure takes you on a journey and in the end you find your heart aching along with Phoebe’s. You continue to watch her fighting all this evil and you wonder will she ever get her redemption in the end.
I swear I had come to dislike Adam’s girlfriend in this book, but by the end I didn’t have a choice but feel for her. This book will pull at all of your emotions and you begin to wonder if everything will be happy in the end.
This is an amazing rollercoaster ride and you will question whether or not you are ready to get off.
Until Next Time… Tabi
Once again, I’m left at a complete loss for words. And even if I had them, I’d be too worried that I’d be accidentally giving away all the best secrets of the book. I love Phoebe. I love that she’s learning how to navigate in our strange and twisted society. I love that she’s even starting to learn how to slow down and think (at least a little) before jumping into trouble with both feet. Smoke’s snarky, devil-may-care attitude still lands him most of the best one-liners of the book – all of which I completely adored. Adam’s the one that comes off as being a little “less than” in this book. He’s still got that great big giving heart, but somehow that ended up making him appear a bit of a milquetoast this time around. I’m fascinated by the developing connections between the supernaturals and I can’t wait to read more.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the authors through StoryOrigin.
Still soulless, little power, most of the time without knowing what she had to do or how and dragging herself with Adam and the cat, Phoebe continued doing Fates bidding. Each time she was feeling more pressure upon her and her failures and the insecurity about her deal with Fate were reeling her. A situation that had me intrigued and feeling sad for Adam and her. And that cat was not far behind. I think it’s hiding something that must be important. I’m eager to know the story behind him. The succubus threat brought missing answers and I enjoyed how the authors crafted it. Tasked with hunting demons was not an adventure with almost all the odds against Phoebe. This heroine has been well battered and sub esteemed but at the end she knows how to survive. And the rule that no human should be privy to the supernatural world. Looks like more than one character forgot it and in what way! Each task is more difficult than the previous one and I have no idea what will happen. Interesting and intriguing story with action, suspense, drama, violence, amusing and some tender scenes, secrets, mystery and magic. Fate’s emergency situation left me eager to revisit some characters. I enjoyed this book.
