In a town ruled by sin, will he earn her love or her lies?
Dodge City, Kansas – 1877
Sadie Sullivan lost everything when a herd of longhorn cattle bound for Dodge City trampled and destroyed her farm. Now she works in Dodge—one of the most wicked and lawless towns in the West—at the Northern Star saloon. But her survival in this new world of sin and violence depends on maintaining a lie so … maintaining a lie so deadly it could end her life before the town of Dodge can.
The one man capable of unraveling all of Sadie’s secrets is Noah Ballantyne, the Texan rancher whose herd destroyed her home. Back in town and taking up the role of deputy alongside legendary lawman Bat Masterson, Noah vows he won’t leave until he’s made things right. But with the saloon’s madam unwilling to release Sadie and a rich cattle baron wanting her as well, the odds aren’t in favor of finding love…or leaving town alive.

Book one in the Gambling Hearts series a well written book and I want to read the next book in this series. There is suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, villains, and romance. I enjoyed reading Sadie Sullivan and Noah Ballantyne’s story and all the things they go through to get their happy ending. ONE ENGAGING ADVENTURE!!!
Explosive! Man, talk about everyone wanting a piece of their soul. A tempest of unexpected mishaps and surprising events launch those spinning emotions, coiling tightly, bursting to life brilliantly. Drama, adversity, danger and suspense engage all of your senses while a wealth of twists and turns run rampant. One intense storyline and gripping plot propels this bad boy to life flawlessly. Struggling through all the trials and tribulations along with a few bumps and bruises send this bad boy skyrocketing. The characters are authentic, relatable and realistic with such depth and individuality it feels as though you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are graphically detailed and descriptive making it easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Fantastic job Jacqui, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
Dodge City, Kansas 1877 This is the first story I have read by this author and all I can say is it will not be the last! I was pulled in from the prologue and felt I was there as the cattle destroyed Sadie’s farm. The dust, the noise, the hopelessness she felt all came off the pages by this author’s amazing descriptive words!
Unfortunately, Sadie ended up working in Dodge at the saloon where there was not much law and a lot of rough and wicked people. Worst of all working for Gertie Garrett, no make that owned by her, kept her on a tight lease and with all the rowdy men coming in from the cattle drive, she would have a hard time keeping up her lies. But who would she spot but Noah, that cattle drover who destroyed her home!
Noah couldn’t believe that the beautiful farm girl he had seen last year was at the salon dressed as one of the “ladies.” He vowed he would make things right from destroying her home and get her out of that saloon.
I really could not read this fast enough. Fate seemed to bring these two together. Now, if they only could manage to come together, stay alive and get out of Dodge! Do not miss this story of finding love in the least expected way, while dodging those forces that are hard to be controlled!! Cannot wait to read more. I read this through Booksprout.
This is a sweet historical romance and it’s been years since I stepped out of the paranormal world and stepped back in time. I read it over a couple of days and it flowed seamlessly keeping me glued to my kindle.I connected with the characters and hoped it would work out well for them as I love a HEA. I’m not American so the history was interesting and captured a period when life was certainly different, especially for a woman. I highly recommend this book and look forward to hunting down more by this author.
Great Western! Action/Adventure/ Romance. 1870’s Dodge City with Bat Masterson
This is a wonderful old-fashioned western romance! There’s lots of drama with a bit of romance and brawling. The romance is great with only a couple of steamy parts. Even at that it is more love than lust. This author can weave a wonderful story with a detailed plot and believable characters. It is a page-turner with constant action.
