Carol Bennett was owner of Rudolph’s Reads book store in a small town called Christmas Mountain. She was a quiet, friendly, hardworking woman who loves what she does. When a hard headed, handsome cowboy named Tim Burke comes into her store to pick up his Grandma’s book order, they begin to get on one another’s nerves. You’ll fall in love with this small town and all the people in it! Wonderful 5 star romance read.
Carol Bennett has returned to her small hometown of Christmas Mountain, Montana, as the owner of Rudolph’s Reads, the bookstore that provided a haven for her growing up. She is hoping it, along with a frumpy appearance (complete with fake glasses), will provide a hiding place once again, this time from her past in the big city.
Grudgingly, handsome cowboy/rancher Tim Burke comes in the bookstore to pick up some books his grandmother, a regular customer of Carol’s, ordered before having surgery. Although believing this is a waste of his time, Tim is intrigued by Carol.
Carol is both attracted to and infuriated by Tim, especially when he tells her he sees through her disguise and knows the reason for it. Despite a rough beginning, thanks to invitations from Tim’s grandmother to visit her at the ranch, they get a chance to spend time together and see the true character of each other.
Between Christmas And Romance is Shanna Hatfield’s debut writing a story using first-person point of view. I rarely read these types of novels, but the excellent way in which she wrote this, I could not tell any difference from her other works. The teasing between Carol and Tim, leading to love, is most enjoyable and adds another humorous romance to this author’s growing list of books. I also loved all the heartwarming moments of good deeds – from Carol’s past to Tim’s grandmother to the town’s helping hand.
This is a stand-alone book for Ms. Hatfield, but is also part of The Christmas Mountain Series. It is a cute, clean, easy read – getting you in the mood for Christmas.
I received a free Kindle copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.
Update: I purchased a Kindle edition as well.
As always, truly enjoyed this story , she never fails to make me search for another one of her books
Between Christmas and Romance was just fantastic!! Shanna Hatfield has created another winner, in my opinion, but one that should come with two warnings: a) don’t start this book right before bedtime (since you’ll want to read it in one sitting), and b) don’t read this story with an empty stomach (since the book is filled with so many great recipes!).
I honestly loved getting to know both Tim and Carol. The chemistry between them was off the charts, and even though their “meet cute” was anything but, I honestly fell for him (where do I find one?). Of course, there are many other things in this story that did it for me, such as having two of my favorite holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas), so much food 😉 a bookstore, of course, small-town life (my fav!), lots of romance, and a dash of suspense. Seriously, Ms. Hatfield has outdone herself, and just in time for the Holidays 🙂 ~ 5 stars and completely recommended!!
Carol took over the book store a year ago and it prospers. When she meets Tim she was just annoyed about him making fun of her name, but what he can she can do too. But why is she attracted to this annoying man, the grandson of one of her costumers? But then those kisses… Can she leave her past behind or will that keep them apart forever?
I loved this story, the lovable characters (humans and animals), and her past was a total surprise. A recommend read with a lot of humor.
Christmas Mountain is home and Carol is so happy she returned. However she has been lonely lately and would like to fix that somehow.
Enter Tim, rude but oh so handsome! He drives her crazy. He is one of her customers grandsons and she cannot stop thinking about him. Why???
Shanna Hatfield write romance like none other. Her characters are fun and energizing. They keep you interested to the end and they get their HEA.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
Christmas Mountain is a place I would like to live. The people are nice and friendly. Carol came home a little over a year to hide out and is so glad that she did. Her life in the city was exciting, but there is no place like home. When she left there at 18, she was sure that she would never return. But return she did and is now the proud owner of a book store. Her life is fulfilling, but a bit lonely. When she meets Tim, the grandson of a customer, she is sure that she would never like him. He may be handsome, but he is rude. But, she can’t stop thinking about him. As they get to know each other, they grow closer but Carol is holding back. What is her secret?
this is a wonderful story, carol moves back to the small town tim was in the service but now runs a ranch. their first meeting does not go will , you have to read the book, her cat likes him. I think I might have to put Tim right up there with Garrett, a cowboy that can be romantic and helps when she asked him . if you have read any of her other books you will want to read this one . I was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review. I will be rereading it.
This is such a good book!
I truly adored reading it!
It’s a heartwarming, sweet
& moving story.
Everything you want in a true romance.
Carol Tim, steal your heart
from the very first pages to the last.
It has the small town charm & the comfort
of friends & family.
I loved everything about this
Must Read Story!!
I loved this sweet Christmas story about a girl who left the city life to return to her home at Christmas Mountain. She buys a book store and meets a hunky cowboy. Tim who is ex military and came home to run the ranch after his uncle died. It’s a time when people come together to help others. When Carol’s stalked is caught she can finally relax and hopefully win Tim back.
Carol Bennett owns Rudolph Reads bookstore in her hometown of Christmas Mountain.
A place where she can hide in her own little world, away from everyone and everything that can or has hurt her. Perfectly happy in her little world, sharing it with her bossy cat, that is until a certain cowboy turns her world upside down.
Tim Burke lives on a local ranch caring for family, he stops into the bookstore to pick up an order for his grandmother and is instantly interested in the frumpy little woman who owns and runs the bookstore.
There is a instant mutual dislike for each other in the beginning. He can see through the disguise she has worn for years and she can not have that. Throw in the magic of the little town and maybe a meddling Grandmother and these two have no choice but to get to know each other.
Believe in the magic of Christmas Love!
Carol had come to Christmas Mountain to hide out. But she met someone. As much as she wanted to be with Tim how could she endanger his life.
A great story. One you won’t want to miss.
Sweet romance
Once again, Shanna Hatfield has written a fun Christmas romance. The snarky dialog filled with literary quotes, movie references, and puns related to the characters’ names kept me smiling. Tim, the handsome cowboy who was so determined to get beyond Carol’s defenses had me swooning. And Carol’s very painful past had me sighing.
It was obvious that Carol, the owner of Rudolph’s Reads, had secrets in her past that she wanted to keep there. Big secrets that caused her to learn major self-defense moves which got used on the unfortunate Tim more than once when he surprised her. While I conjectured many scenarios, none of them were correct. The fact that Tim figured out her secret surprised me and the way he let her know that he had was quite fun.
I loved the subplot about Mia, the teenage girl who hid in the bookstore after school. Carol’s kindness to her and how she drew her out so she was willing to share her hurts reflected on Carol’s sweet nature. What Carol did with the information she found. . . Well, let’s just say you’ll have to read the story to find out.
If you enjoy lighthearted Christmas romance with an undertone of mystery, visit Rudolph’s Reads and learn more about Carol and Tim in Between Christmas and Romance!

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
Carol and Tim’s first meeting was funny even if they did rub themselves the wrong way both making a joke about each other’s names. I thought it was interesting he noticed things about her that didn’t make much sense until later in the book. I loved that she owned a bookstore. I would spend all day reading and gushing about books if I did. It was great that she went all out to decorate it for Christmas. I thought it was cool that she learned to defend herself even if she mostly used her moves against Tim. I loved that she named her rescue cat Hemingway. Like most cats he had an attitude, but he took to Tim right away. Big cowboy Tim in the Santa costume with all the kids at the store was so funny. I wish there was a picture. His grandmother was a riot with all her energy even after hip surgery and the way she manipulated Carol and Tim to get them together. There were plenty of laughs, angst among the hero and heroine, and sweet romance in this Christmas story.
I would like to visit Rudolph’s Reads! Between Christmas and Romance is a wonderful holiday story. Of course you can’t go wrong with a hunky cowboy and a girl that loves to read! As with all of Shanna’s books you will find humor, compassion, mystery, love, and good food. Don’t miss this new sweet romance from Shanna Hatfield!
This was an extremely good book! I felt like i had stepped into the story myself. I loved the characters, especially Carol and Tim. Carol and Tim made me laugh with their unkind banter with each other. The fact that Carol owned and lived about a book store in a cozy little town made this story so much more wonderful. There are so many elements to this story besides the romance. There is Christmas cheer, helping a family to love again and a secret that brings potential danger! I anticipated each page, the story just pulled me in more and more. I will definitely be reading everything I can get my hands on by Shanna Hatfield!
Was given a complimentary book. All opinions are my own.
I really like Ms Hatfield’s writing. Her stories always have fun light moments mixed with heartfelt teary ones… and a HEA!
I love books written in 1st person, but Shanna Hatfield’s version is the best I’ve ever read. I “WAS” Carol Bennett in this sweet Christmas romance from the first sentence.
Between Christmas And Romance has catapulted me into the Christmas spirit.
I fell in love with Christmas Mountain, Montana and all the wonderful people who call this town home.
But Tim Burke stole my heart, I fell hard for this handsome, down to earth cowboy.
Carol Bennett recently bought Reindeer Reads, a quaint bookstore, which had always been a place for her to escape, as a child.
She’s a bit of an introvert, or so she “portrays”, but she’s really hiding a secret, one she doesn’t care to share.
Carol is a friend and a blessing with all her patrons, a roommate to Hemi, an over opinionated cat.
Tim has met his match with Carol, he sees right through to her soul and isn’t foiled by her relaxed clothes, comeback lines, or even her surprise “ninja” attacks.
Carol and Tim maybe oil and water, but even that combination has been known to make some of the best concoctions.
As Carol and Tim get to know one another, Tim starts suspecting that she’s hiding something, something that has her on guard. Will they be able to get past her secret or will it be the coal in their Christmas stockings?
I laughed, I swooned, and I celebrated an early Christmas, now if only I could go to Christmas Mountain, Montana, I’d be in Heaven.
Ms. Shanna has written another amazing book, this one is now tied with my two other favorites of hers. Learnin’ The Ropes And Barreling Through Christmas. Ty and Cooper have stiff competition with Tim, as my all-time favorite Cowboy.
I highly recommend this book to the Christmas, Cowboy, Romance Lover!!
Oh my, this story is one of the funniest, wittiest, most sarcastic I think I have read from this author and boy does it ever make it good. I loved this story between Rudolph Reads Bookstore owner Carol and Tim the cowboy who came in to pick up books for his grandmother and shook up her life. Oh my, the words between these two either sends them apart or brings them together. Carol is the queen of sarcasm in this story and she really throws it out to Tim. He however tries to get her back. Meanwhile sparks are flying between them. I am not sure I have laughed as hard as I did than while reading this story in a long time. Oh, and the mishaps are hilarious.
This takes place in Christmas Mountain and this story is part of a series with a few other authors all taking place in Christmas Mountain and each on is the story on one of these girls’ friends. A group of friends came back or stayed in Christmas Mountain, MT and now all have their own stories.
I loved this fun story that I guarantee you will love this story and laugh hard. I highly recommend this story and all the stories in this fun series. You won’t be disappointed.
If you are looking for a book that will make you smile and cry and provide you with an awesome story line then look no further. This is the book for you.
Carol Bennett didn’t have the best childhood, she had a father whom she loved and loved her. However, her Mother was a different story, she had always wanted to be a model but didn’t have the looks and personality for it so she did her best to conform her daughter that way.
So as a little girl she would sometimes hide from her Mother and seek refuge at the Rudolph Reads bookstore in town, they has a little alcove that she could “hide” in and read or just wait until time for her Dad to get home so she could go home. Once her Dad passed away she didn’t have that comfort from him anymore. So she eventually left town.
She knew she could always count on Mr. Abernathy at the bookstore and when she returned to her hometown of Christmas Mountain, Mr. Abernathy mentioned he wanted to sell his store and retire so Carol bought it.
Through the bookstore she met Nancy and then met Nancy’s grandson Tim. From here the story takes a few twists but you won’t be disappointed.
