Once Un-Removed?
Oh I love it, I finally get to read about some of the Crawford Goode history in Lucky Valley! Always wondered what really happened to Marigold Crawford Goode in Lucky Valley. This is going to be the beginning of new great things in Lucky Valley, if the ghosts of the past let it happen.
Lilly, Dante and Jessie did no have an easy life after their mom Marigold abandoned the on the steps of a firehouse at a very young age. Their memories of dear mom are not good at all. That’s why when Aunt Polly calls them to come to Lucky Valley, Lilly and Dante are very suspicious of the reasons behind the inheritance that Marigold left them, nothing good ever came out of a Goode at least that’s what the town residents say. But especially Unlucky Valley, those ghosts just won’t stay buried and they say the Crawford Goode are to blame for that too.
Lilly and Dante just can’t believe they are witches, or that the Gnomes just appear out of nowhere, not to mention all the other crazy stuff that’s happening at the mansion and let’s not forget fruity Aunt Polly and Herman the pet lobster.,
The only thing good from all this, or is he good, is Nolan, but then again he has the Dawson Curse!
Get ready to get a belly ache, it certainly had me in stitches.
Love this author, love this book!
I love a great cozy mystery, and Michelle M. Pillow ramps it up with humor, a great cast of secondary characters and adds the paranormal! C’mon – garden gnomes?! Yes!!!
I must admit, I truly enjoyed this cozy mystery by Michelle Pillow. I love her writing style and how she comes up with such awesome stories. This new series?..i need more..argh..was a welcome surprise. I totally fell in love with Lily and her siblings as well as sexy Nolan and even those gnomes. The siblings are a quirky bunch and the story was very well written.
If you’re wanting a quick read that’s funny, sexy, and a bit mysterious, then I would happily suggest this book.
Love Michelle’s books. They are always so fun and funny. I highly recommend

A well-written book with an ending I did not expect! I enjoyed reading this first book in the [Un]Lucky Valley series I am looking forward to reading the next book. A book I would recommend. I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I was so happy to see that Aunt Polly from Everlasting was in this book. She plays a big roll. Her Niece, several times removed, has inherited a house in (Un) lucky Valley. Lily and Dante grew up barely scraping by. They have no family and out of the blue inherit a big house, which needs a lot of work, and a lot of other stuff. Stuff like garden gnomes. Aunt Polly is so eccentric and full of magic. There is also the lovable lobster, Herman. Maybe Lily ad Dante finally have a forever home? But someone doesn’t like that they have moved in. They are trying their best to see that they leave. I love this author’s writing. It doesn’t seem to matter what genre she writes, she is always able to pull it off! If you like fun, quirky reads that are a mixture of paranormal and mystery, you will love this.
So much fun whenever we get time with Aunt Polly and now we have a whole nother family to learn about. They’re were definitely some ups & downs in this tale as the Goode’s tried to deal with their inheritance. Laugh out loud humor, mixed with backstabbing towns folk and throw in an unknown relative all makes for a truly entertaining copy mystery.
I received an ARC of this story and have voluntarily chosen to review it here.
Lily Gooderstone had need left a dilapidated victorian house in lucky vally from her crazy absentee mother marigold Crawford Goode. She took her 3 kids and left them a fire station in another state then took off. Now her younger brother and her are in this crazy town dealing with all this crazy mess.
Nolan Dawson is a werewolf and he is the city building code inforcer. He has been put in charge or giving the Goode family so much trouble they leave town so the city can take the house over.
But there is more then just that going on.
I love the mystery in this. It has awesome characters and fantastic storyline. Full of crazyness, magic, fun, betrayal, and so much more . I truly is amazing. I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to give it 10 stars
Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
The characters + storytelling were very captivating
Shout out to Aunt Polly ! and Herman, Of course !
Lily did not have the best of luck.
When she inherits a mansion, she thinks that her luck might be changing.
Little did she know that the mansion came w/ a list of problems as far as the eye can see.
What is Lily to do ?
You will have to read the book to find out what happens to Lily and her brother Dante.
The author pulls you into her world + she does not intend to let you go
The storytelling + the character’s build were awesome!
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
With this book you get a little of everything! Aunt Polly was a hoot! Could never tell if she was ditzy or just plain nuts. Stan was pretty powerful. For a ghost! Lily and Nolan get their HEA along with a huge surprise. I received an advanced copy and freely leave this honest review.
Witches, werewolves and gnomes…oh my. From start to finish this story doesn’t disappoint. Aunt Polly is back with her potions and helpful nature. Now she is helping out her cousins Lily and Dante with their inheritance in Lucky Valley, Colorado. They have inherited a home, a home they don’t want, and a town that doesn’t want them to stay. However, they’ve never had a home before and Lily wants to make the best of it. Unfortunately, the town may have another opinion. This story is full of twists, action and comedy. I couldn’t put it down and cannot wait to see more in the series.
I loved the characters and the story was excellent. It sucked me right in from the very beginning and held on tight. Aunt Polly kept me laughing the whole way through, while the “who done it” kept me guessing. Loved this book, I can’t wait for more!
Great launch to this funny series that hosts a wide and wild array of paranormals from witches and weres to Echidna and Erinyes. Throw in some very mysterious garden gnomes, a lobster familiar and an army of ghosts and you have an enjoyable read that will have you wanting more. Lily and her brother Dante have only just learned of their powerful witch heritage and have their zany Aunt Polly to mentor them as they come into their powers. Then there’s Nolan, a cursed werewolf who knows that Lily is his and who would die to protect her from whoever is trying to run her family out of town. Will Lily get to the bottom of this mystery and finally find the home she so desperately wants? Stay tuned. Highly recommended.
Beware Lucky Valley, Colorado! Aunt Polley and of course, Herman her lobster, are moving in with her newly found relatives Lily and her brother. Yep, she’s inherited the Good Family mansion. A crumbling Victorian. Then there is the hunky inspector delivering a list of have-to-do repairs. He happens to be a werewolf, but who’s counting. No one in this town of PNR beings. Oh yeah, and don’t forget the ever-increasing gnomes in and around the house.
The welcome isn’t exactly friendly. In fact, vandals, keep adding to the repair list. What’s a girl to do? Who can she fall back on for help? Polly (AKA weird Aunt Polly), the hot inspector, or the….well, you need to read to see who else can help or hinder. The force behind the bad luck, the secrets in town, so much to discover and so little time. Another fun cozy from the author. If you think having a pet lobster is a bit strange, moving one from Maine to Colorado is one for the books.
Holy HedgeWitches! This is a fab new cosy series. Set in a town were the paranormal are more or less the norm!
Lily and her siblings have the worst run of luck…ever. They were abandoned by their mother, they have no family left and they are pretty much down on their luck. But their estranged mother leaves them the family home in Lucky Valley. But when they arrive in town the locals are anything but friendly. Lily has deja vu and Dante finds out how pretty raccoons look when they are up close and personal!
This family thought they had problems before they found out about being witches! Add in shady dealings by the local council, a not altogether on the up and up curser werewolf building inspector/contractor and the very eccentric but well meant Aunt Polly! The recipe for a superb cosy!
4 Star review of Better Haunts & Garden Gnomes by Michelle M Pillow
Audio Review:
Michelle M Pillow is a relatively new author to me as is the narrator B.J. Harrison. This is a cozy mystery which was fun and entertaining.
I found the narration enjoyable and easy to listen too. His voices were good and he brought the story to life for me and enhanced my enjoyment.
It wouldn’t be a cozy mystery without some suspense and drama. Lily Goode hopes her luck has finally changed after inheriting a house from her estranged mother. However, strange accidents start to occur and Lily soon believes danger is coming.
The secondary characters including her brother Dante, were just as engaging, particularly Aunt Polly who had me cracking up at times.
A fun quick read with a few surprising twists and with enough clues to satisfy my inner detective spirit.
This is a must have story!! The wonderful characters bring the story alive as Lily learns what needs repairing on her inherited house as well as her ‘other’ inheritance. Now throw in a hottie and your companion will be laughter as the story twists and turns you around in a delightful cozy mystery tale. This will be a hard book to put down!! A wonderful book and must have!
What’s one more garden gnome?
I absolutely love this book! It’s full of so much laughter, and crazy, that you manage to get through the painfully sad parts and onto the HEA. I think my favorite line is when Dante says, “It’s probably a shipment of refugee gnomes seeking sanctuary “. It just fit perfectly with the scene and had me rolling on the floor laughing. I look forward to reading the next book and in the meantime, I’ll catch on the other books featuring Aunt Polly.
Lily and Dante Goode have come to (Un) Lucky Valley because Aunt Polly is a relative and she knew their mother and she called so they could come and claim their family estate their mother left them. It was about to fall down around their ears but Aunt Polly is very positive they can get it into shape and they can live there and Lily wanted a home for her and her siblings. They have a sister Jesse that they left because she refuse to come. Now that they have talked to the lawyer and decided to stay if they can get someone to hire them because the estate only pays for repairs to the property but doesn’t include food or clothes so Lily has to figure out a way take care of them. She met Nathan County clerk has many citations that they have to take care of or they could lose the property. They get help from Nathan and he is not sure that a spell has not been put on him he cannot stay away since he heard her laugh at her brothers joke in the lawyers office. He helps as much as he can with everything going on with is issues during the full moon but is hiding the truth. Since the Goode’s came to town things are starting to happen and the people their feel that they are just as bad as their mother. Lily and Dante’s familiar’s, You have to love Aunt Polly’s spells, Herman, the ghost and the fighting gnomes and then someone is continually trying to run them off or burn them out, which turns out to be a the biggest surprise of figuring out what Marigold’s Ghost is trying to make clear. A very heartwarming, magical spells, killer ghost and fighting gnomes romantic love story. Some things left unresolved but their must be another book here. Totally enjoyed the characters. Recommend. I am voluntarily reviewing this book gifted to me by the author without obligation.
