One who would rather pretend to be human than to rule them.
One with no magic.

And now, I just discovered how grandma found us refuge in America, how she thought she could save me.

This book definitely went a different direction from what I thought it would and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The background stories and way they learned through the book definitely grabbed my attention. I believe this is the first book I have listened to from Kara Lockharte and have to say I will be looking for more. Narration is perfect!
I loved how this started out and it kept up the pace until the end. Sophie is a spitfire from the start. She is full of energy and isn’t about to let her grandmother’s promise slow her down. Hunter is her salvation and undoing. He was perfect to complete them. Victoria Mei did a wonderful job with Sophie expressing her snark as well as Hunter.
This is a intriguing shorter story. It really makes me wanting to read more in this series. I enjoyed Sophie. She knows what she wants or doesn’t want. Hunter is just…well sexy as all get out…then he’s a freaking DRAGON! His words to her right before they bond? So HOT!
Sophie comes from a magical family… she just doesn’t have any. She is a dud. Something is after her and she can only get protection from one guy or should I say dragon.
This is my first book by this author. The story is easy to understand and to follow along with. The characters are fun with the element of danger. I did listen to this on audio. Victoria Mei does a wonderful job with this story and these characters.
This is my first book by the author and narrator and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So good right from the beginning. Hot, action, page turning good.

Betrothed to the Dragon: Lick of Fire
Good characters and an interesting story, Hot naked dragons are also included along with the action
This was a really, quick, fun, action-packed read. Hunter and Sophie are a good couple who are made for each other. Although thrown together quickly, they trust each other intrinsically. At times both horrifying and bittersweet, this was a good read, and I am very much looking forward to the next book.

This is a sweet yet action packed story starring a handsome Dragon and a shen. Shen is new to me, I haven’t read any of these authors books, so not sure if they are mentioned before this. I did love the magic and story behind them. Sophie has been on the run her entire life. The Devourer is after her and all shen. She gets surprised by learning she is betrothed to someone, that someone being a dragon.
Sophie is a bit stubborn, she’s tired of running but doesn’t want the help Hunter offers her until she has no choice. She does seem to realize she can’t go at this alone and has Hunter there to help. Hunter is pretty amazing. He’s sweet and kind, with a hard protective side. He’s a dragon who knows what he wants, knows the danger of trying to obtain it, but still goes for it!
I enjoyed this story and would really like to know more of what exactly Sophie is. I wish there was more explanation into what she is and what she does. I feel like it was a bit of a leftover piece that should have been wrapped up. Maybe we will find out in a different book! It’s still a fun story that I will add to the re-read pile!
first read by this author and first in a new series
Sophie is a Shen ( a species of magical being that can take many forms ) raised by her grandmother following the death of her parents. She is however hiding in plain sight working at a museum, pretending and passing for human, despite her truly powerful grandmother and parents she has no power.
Despite her lack of power she is wanted and tracked by the Devourer, an entity that has killed and destroyed many beings in its mission for knowledge.
But Sophie’s time for hiding is coming to an end…on the day she finds out her Grandmother had bartered her off for protection and refuge into america. Sophie is adamant that she will not marry anyone for protection, especially when it turns out the hunky guy at the museum is actually her potential husband. It also turns out that her grandmother wasn’t as honest regarding Sophies Powers or her future either.
I am not normally a fan of novellas, but this was such a great book…
It was action packed and really gripped me from the start. I loved the interaction between Sophie and Hunter.
My only bug bear would be that I would have adored a longer book, just to get better clarification on the Shen and Dragon species as a whole and for more moments between them ( Sophie and Hunter ) as a couple to allow for a more natural progression to their relationship.
I wanted to read more of her sassy stubborn nature and his dry sense of humour.
I will be reading the second in this series as the set up of future characters is too tempting not too. plus I’m looking forward to seeing how and where the series is going to progress to story wise.
This is an excellent new book and I roared through it in a couple of hours! Hunter and Sophie are betrothed by an old tradition to be bound together. Sophie is being hunted and Hunter wants to protect her. I loved reading about the Dragons and Shen and look forward to reading more in this series!
I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.
Excellent paranormal romance with dragons and other forms of magical beings. There is action, mystery, magic, and suspense as well. There is an evil known as the Devourer. It killed millions of magical creatures. It was an enjoyable story and I look forward to reading future books by Ms Lockharte.
This was a brilliantly written paranormal romance!! Interesting world building and great characters – plenty of action and passion moved the book at a really good pace.
I really enjoyed this one!!!
I liked it but it felt a little rushed. Needed more character development.
Dragon Lovers Book One.

3.5 stars.
This a quick, easy to read story, the first of a series. Very steamy. A lot of action and magic.
I read and enjoyed this book as part of the Dragon Lovers Box Set. Dragon Lovers by Kara Lockharte is a box set of the following three book: Betrothed to the Dragon, Belonging to the Dragon, and Bonded to the Dragon. Each book is a stand alone story featuring a specific couple but all three books are part of one overall incredible story. These characters are unusual and the individual books are so compelling, I couldn’t put them down until I finished them all. I fell in love with every character in this series while reading it and especially loved the way all the characters that were featured in the first book continued to be part of the overall story throughout all the books. This book is a wonderful read that anyone who enjoys reading about magic, magical creatures, and dragons will love. Betrothed to the Dragon is an amazing book full of magic and romance.
First book in a new mini-series set in a fascinating world. You’ve got the Shen, a magical race with a great variety of gifts, dragons from an alien planet, and of course the big bad enemy in the Devourer. Sophie is a Shen who never manifested a gift of her own despite a powerful lineage and has adapted to living as a human. Her life has been shaped by the deaths of her parents at the hands of the Devourer and all the running she has done since then. When her Grandmother tells her she’s been betrothed to a dragon since she was an infant, she doesn’t know what to think. When she meets a drop dead gorgeous man at her work, then literally runs into him again, she never expects that he is her betrothed. But the Devourer is making moves again and when Sophie runs, this time she has some unexpected help. Fast-paced and filled with action, this short story will have you glued to the pages to see how things turn out.
This dragon shifter story pleasantly surprised me. We not only get a dragon but we get much more. Sophie has no idea what game her grandmother is playing with her future and she is about to get enlightened literally. Her grandmother wants to make sure Sophie is safe and Hunter is just the man errr dragon to do it.
We get action, and the characters and chemistry are perfectly done.
hot dragons and more!
get ready for this action pack dragon series!! its bloody gorgeous and plenty of swoon worth scenes!!! Good vs Evil! Survival is the key and yet so hard to achieve!
I was able to read this in one day. It was fast paced and had some interesting twists in it. I would have liked a bit more background into the escape to earth for the dragons and shen. I wish we would have been able to meet Sophie’s grandmother. I bet she was a hoot. I was a bit disappointed in Sophie’s total lack of trust in herself. She spent a lot of time feeling sorry for herself when he could have been actively learning about herself and her species. Hunter was my heart throb. I can see why he had the attitude when he first met her, but she just flaked out. I was really proud of her when her when she finally gave in and let Hunter help her. This was a really good story and I look forward to the next story.
I’ve been getting a kick out of reading about the world of dragons! They’ve definitely become a new fave to read about in the shapeshifter world. Betrothed to a Dragon was a great starting point for the Lick of Fire series and after devouring this one, I’m beyond eager for the next couple!
This was a first time read from Kara Lockharte and I’m hooked on her words. I love the characters dialogue, it was relatable and definitely the way I talk among friends when we’re all hanging out.
I was so fascinated by the world building especially since it’s so new to me. This will be the second dragon series that I’ve read and I love noting the differences between the two. There’s definitely some new elements and other out of this world characters that I’m dying to learn about like the shen.
I got the sense that we’ll still have plenty to learn about Hunter and Sophie especially since she’s still adapting to everything she’s learn in such a short amount of time.
Brava, Kara and absolutely can’t wait to read more about these dragons!
