A serial killer strikes at the Roarke Palace Hotel and Lt. Eve Dallas works hard to stop him before he gets to his possible finally target – Roarke.
Poor Roarke. He always seems to be indirectly involved in all of Eve’s cases. You would think this would make reading this series tedious, but it really doesn’t. The cases are all interesting and suspenseful. It’s been a while since I read the previous In Death book, but I feel like Eve is starting to loosen up a bit and I believe her relationship with Roarke has been a good thing for her. The term “opposites attract” rings true in this series.
Mick, an old friend of Roarke’s shows up in this one and Eve doesn’t trust him. I got bad vibes from him too. With everything that was going on, his sudden appearance seems obvious. Peabody and McNab really have issues in this book. Hopefully we will see them together soon. They are a perfect match. Mavis makes a short appearance, but makes a big show out of it. I love this character! Somerset plays a bigger role in this one and I was hoping that the situation would resolve the issues between him and Eve. I was wrong, but that doesn’t upset me. I would miss the snarky remarks.
Love J. D. Robb’s “In Death” books.
Betrayal in Death is the twelfth book to J.D. Robb’s In Death series. I finished reading this book back in December 2020. I’ve been meant to review it, but life gets in the way sometimes.
Storyline/My Thoughts: I cannot get enough of Eve Dallas and Roarke. These two characters, plus the secondary characters, make this series addicting. It also helps with the storylines that J.D. Robb makes these characters go through. The title of this book gives you a hint what is the main storyline. This book is going to test relationships and friendships again. I swear both Eve and Roarke need a vacation so that they can get away from drama and death for a while. (I say that in every review because these two deserve a break.) Unfortunately, they have to solve the current crime(s). This book’s villain is easy to figure out since he’s a hitman, but Eve and her team are unsure why he’s targeting certain people who don’t stand out. Roarke may know why, though, since he’s close to the case. Roarke is always involved somehow. I enjoy it when he helps Eve because she’s so stubborn about having her husband help her.
J.D. Robb has become a favorite author of mine, and I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the In Death series. I hope, though, that J.D. Robb slows down, so I can catch up.
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the In Death series.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. I give this book 4.5 stars, and I would recommend this book/series. If you enjoy Romantic Suspense, then you will enjoy this series. If you also love your storylines set in the future, you’ll enjoy this series. I know one thing there better be real coffee in my future and not the fake stuff. I can’t live without my coffee, and when Eve first described coffee, I was upset, but now she gets the good stuff due to Roarke.
I have listened to all of the In Death series and am always looking forward to them. I like some of the earlier ones better as they delve more into Eve and Rourk’s past and relationship.
Love this series, the characters, the dialogue, the layered plotting … reading these books keeps me engaged, smiling and guessing.
Love Eve Dallas !!!
Love all of J.D. Robb’s In Death series.
6stars. Awesome book
Never read a J.D. Robb I didn’t like. Takes police procedural and adds a futuristic slant, then includes a romance. Its part of a series and some people will do better or enjoy it more if they start at the beginning of the series with Naked in Death. But still a darn good read!
I love the Eve Dallas books. This one did not disappoint! I recommend it to anyone but since it is a later book in the series I would suggest reading the earlier ones to get the history of Eve and Company.
Love all of the books in this series!
This series is outstanding!
Fantastic story and characters, I’ve read quite a few in this series.Great author
This used to be one of my favorite series..I LOVED the characters, Eve and Rourke – WHO DOESN’T WANT ROURKE. When my grandson was young we would watch the gargoyes animated series. When I started this series, the female detective – Maza is who I see as Eve and Xanatos as Rouke because he too had longer hairhe pulled back. WHO WOULD NOT WANT HER LOVE AND LIFE and friends.
BUT somewhere along the way Robb/Roberts lost track of Eve and the people that were important and less and less of the characters that made this a loved series.
I no longer buy her books. If they come in my different sites at very reduced prices I will buy them and read them, but just not the same.
BUT if you never read these…read the first 35 because I could not read them fast enough and loved the buildup of their lives and Mavis and all of it…
I love all of the In Death books.
As usual these book are wonderful reads
This entire series rings the bell. The future setting is interesting, the interaction between characters entrancing, and many of the plots ‘out there.’ Reading in order builds continuity, but is not necessary.
I never miss one of her books, love every one of them. Until I am finished it less than 48 hours and have to wait at least 6 months for another!
Just about anything from J.D. Robb. Us an excellent choice. This is one in a series so I suggest reading all of the series for great reads.
I have loved every book in this series. Great mixture of criminology and science fiction. Never disappoint.
