The first time that I met Jake Matthews, was the very first time that I set foot in the locker room. That also happened to be the first time that I saw his package, because he looked me dead in the eye, and dropped his towel on the ground. He was teasing me, taunting me with his eyes. He wanted me to look. He wanted me to see what he was working with. I fought it. I swear to you, I tried so hard … swear to you, I tried so hard not to look.
But then, my eyes failed me, because before I could stop it from happening, I was staring at it.
It, being a perfect, thick, long…yeah. I couldn’t pull my eyes away from it. In fact, I may have drooled a little bit. It was impressive, alright?
That was my first mistake, because now, the man won’t leave me alone.
He thinks that he’s God’s gift to women and is just expecting me to fall at his feet. I’m not going to let that happen- hotshot baseball players aren’t my type, anyways. Plus, getting involved with the players is totally against my contract. I can’t exactly afford to get fired, especially when I’ve just landed my dream job.
Jake’s not giving up easily, though. He really wants to show me what he’s working with. He’s definitely way more show, than he is tell.
I’m just going to have to settle for one more little peek. I mean, one peek never hurt anyone, right?
Wrong.

Very nice romance
Great read
(4 July 2021) OK, I’m going into this book with an open mind. Overall, it has a 4+ rating with over 400 reviews. Not bad. Definitely worth a try. It’s baseball season. I love baseball. I love stories that revolve around baseball players. So, what’s my hesitation? The few reviews that were 1 or 2 star ratings had a lot to say about how bad this book was. They hit some of my deal breakers. I’m really hoping they’re wrong. There are more books in this series which means I’ll have more baseball if this one pans out. We shall see……
(5 July 2021) Umm, there was much good about this story and enough mediocre (not really bad) that I’m going with a middle-of-the-road 3-stars. Laci has reasons, very good reasons, to steer clear of professional athletes and baseball players in particular. She keeps those reasons to herself. Jake is known as a total player on and off the field. He has earned his reputation and then some. But he has never been deliberately mean so it’s a bit surprising that he gets caught up in The Bet. Well, in his defense, it sort of happens by accident and before he knows it, he’s in the middle of it all. All things considered, I really did like Jake. I understood where Laci was coming from and why she had so many walls built up. There’s nothing really new in this one, just a few things unique to Jake and Laci. I enjoyed it for the most part, toward the end I became a little annoyed. I think the story had more potential than actually panned out. Did I like it? Yep. Was it my fave baseball romance? Nope. It was a quick and entertaining story.
Entertaining
I love reading series & I’m excited to start this one! Book 1 is about Jake & his baseball teammates finding ways to get their newly hired “mom”-ager fired by placing bets. Laci grew up with baseball engraved in her soul. She puts all her knowledge to use when she steps up to be the mother hen of the Rays. With a strict stipulation in her contract of no fraternizing with the players, she knows that won’t be a problem as she will never fall for a ball player. That is until Jake Matthews keeps intruding in her personal life, always showing up at the worst times to rescue her.
Somehow his teammates nominate him to be the next one to sleep with Laci. He’s never participated in the past but he figures he can do it quick & be done with it. But as he finds ways to break through Laci’s tough exterior walls, he finds a vulnerable girl who’s been let down & hurt too many times. Will Jake be another disappointment or will he be someone she can depend on?
Jake was a sweet guy, trying to do the right thing but always finding ways to mess things up with Laci. She held her ground every time & wasn’t a pushover. Looking forward to reading more about Jake’s teammates!
