Being able to stand on your own two feet, sometimes requires getting knocked off them completely… McKenzie “Kenzie” Lane is newly graduated from college and looking forward to a dream internship she has lined up for the summer in LA. Unfortunately, her controlling mother has other plans. Colby Singer, with his hot-as-sin looks and wicked charm, is never without attention from the ladies. … attention from the ladies. Despite suspecting how Kenzie feels about him, he’s always kept her comfortably off-limits since she’s the baby sister of one of his best friends. But when he’s determined to distract her temporarily from the stress of her mother’s ultimatum, deciding to show her some fun, he quickly finds that keeping her in the friend zone is not as easy as he’d hoped.
Once Kenzie realizes this may be her last opportunity to gauge her long-time crush’s true feelings, she puts it all out there in the form of a bet. It’s the perfect idea for her perfect man.
Until he isn’t.
Will a dose of reality lead to true love? Or will it crash and burn before it can even get started?
Full Length Standalone book with no cliffhanger. Third book of the “Something Series”
Bet Me Something is for mature audiences, due to steamy bedroom scenes that are in no way contained to just the bedroom.

McKenzie was in love with Colby all her life. Colby was a play boy. I love that we were able to get a small glimpse into what these two were up to before they were together. Yeah, you can read this as a stand alone without reading the 2 before. But had I not already read them before, I would have wanted to after reading this. The characters are all wonderful. And the writing is so great that I feel emotionally attached to them as if they were in my own circle of friends. And I do love when my friends get their HEA. I am very much looking forward to reading more about this group of people.
Short review. First book by Aubrey Bondurant that I have read but not my last.
Engaging sexy funny story about finding the courage to break free from the shackles and finding yourself and about not letting the past be what defines you for the rest of your life that it makes you feel not good enough.
Let me just get this said, upfront, If you don’t like blunt talk, ending more times than not, in sex, most of the in them bantering, and downright laughter. This book is not for you. It was sure for me.
This book is fast-paced and has a lot of characters who, you will get to know quickly, and grow to love. This is a gap book, of only 9 years, and it is, Kenz, as Colby calls her, being madly in love with him. Her big brother, Brian’s best friend. However, the two do not have, a clue.
The only one she has really confided in, is Sasha, Brian’s girlfriend. It’s at her unwanted graduate party, that she gets confronted, by her, sister-in-law, whom she hates. About, how the only reason she moved to, LA is to be near, Colby. When she hears, Colby behind her. Knowing he had to hear, part of that.
Along with her mother’s bombshell of expecting her to permanently move home to Virginia. That after the party Colby whisks her off to Cabo. This time together changes their focus on who they really are and what they are to one another. Their Sunday dinners were taking new meaning.
But, when Kenz is injured, things pile up as do emotions. They must look closer, and see if there is anything there. Can anyone overlook, Colby’s past including, Colby himself? Josh his brother must eat his works alongside her, brother, Brian. And, Colby must wallow in his insecurities. Because Kenz is not about the allow the men in her life to, stand in her way, without being, a hellcat.
I started this book and the first few chapters were difficult to get into (maybe because I hadn’t read the first 2 books in the series?). I almost stopped reading it and started on something else but it got better and better. Turned out to be a great read!
Bet Me Something is the third book in the “Something” Series by Aubrey Bondurant and I have no adequate words to describe how this book made me feel. It is a standalone with no cliffhanger but do yourself a favor and read the first two before you read this one in order to avoid spoilers for some of the couples this book includes.
McKenzie “Kenzie” Lane is Brian Lane’s half sister (from Ask Me Something). She is young, just having graduated from college but has issues with her mother who insists on completely controlling her young daughter. Kenzie has different ideas about how she wants her life to go.
Colby Singer, Josh’s brother (from Tell Me Something) has a past. He has a panty dropping grin (PDG to those in the know) and is very charming. He never lacks for attention. He and Kenzie have been friends forever and Kenzie has wanted him since the ripe old age of 6. He, however, has always kept her in the friend zone because her brother and his buddies are his closest friends and because his past (or is it present?) keeps him from pursuing anything with her.
A weekend trip to help free Kenzie from the disaster that is her mother makes it difficult for Colby to keep his distance although he does try admirably. Kenzie is beginning to think that perhaps it is time to take Colby down from the pedestal she put him on and resign herself to being only his friend. A series of bets begin to change things between them but will his past and his inability to leave it there and her inability to go after what she really wants in life and for her future derail them before they ever get started?
This book is full of firsts including a first that is probably one of the hottest scenes I have ever come across (although I won’t say what it was…it could be anything from first kiss to first time…I’m not saying).
I enjoyed Kenzie and Colby’s story. After reading the first two books in this series I was really looking forward to this brother’s best friend/ age gap romance as I am a big fan of those tropes. Although characters appear throughout this series, this is a standalone read and it reads very easily as such. I’ve come to count on the fact that this author’s characters will inspire strong, complex feelings in me. I feel that this is because they are realistically flawed. So even if you like them, you are just as likely to not like everything about them. This makes for interesting charters with lots of room for them to grow. I thought Colby could be very sweet and he had charm for days….. as long as he kept his mouth shut. Otherwise, I kind of wanted to smack him in the back of his head and ask him, “Really???!!”. There were truly moments when I felt bad for him but I can’t lie, there is one pivotal moment in this book that was a huge turnoff for me as far as he was concerned (and no, it’s not cheating or anything like that). But for me it was kind of an unforgivable mistake that I’m not sure I would have been able to let go and move past. As for Kenzie she was a unique combination of fierce determination and weakness. I love the longing and angst of unrequited feelings that comes with this type of read but I felt she came across as way too desperate for comfort. Even with those pet peeves though, I liked this story and this couple. You could feel their attraction and chemistry, they had such fun together and they certainly brought the heat when they finally surrendered to it. I am choosing to post a sincere review.
Loving this series! Glad I got to know the real Colby in Bet Me. I was pretty indifferent to him and his partying ways in the previous books. Kenzie had to find that she could stand on her own two feet and not let her parents dictate her life. Bet Me was an emotional book. Aubrey knows how to make you laugh, feel teary and fall in love from page 1. Looking forward to book 4.
A BRILLIANT SIZZLING FRIENDS TO LOVERS STORY.
My second book in this series by Aubrey Bondurant and although after reading the first book I knew this series would be addictive I jumped straight to book 3 instead of book 2. Something about Colby pulled me towards this book rather than Brian and Sasha’s story but I will certainly read their story too as there are no spoilers in this book even though Brian is Kenzie’s brother and is in her story a few times with Sasha.
Colby is the brother of Josh from the first book in the series, he’s a hot bachelor with a playboy past and reputation.
Kenzie has always had a crush on Colby she even moved out to LA to attend school were Colby now lives and works continuing their close friendship that was definitely a big factor in her choice of school. Now Kenzie has finished school it’s time for decisions, move home to finish college like her mother is demanding she does or stay in LA. Kenzie is still at a place in her life were she is deciding what she wants to do with her future.
I loved Kenzie and Colby’s story. Colby and Kenzie grew up together, lived next door to each other and their older brothers Brian and Josh were and still are best friends. Brian, Colby, Josh and Mark are all a close group of friends and as the group grows and there are additions of women in their lives the women also grow friendships too, making this a great interconnected series too.
This is the kind of friends to lovers story were the hero is definitely in denial, especially with Colby also being a friend of Brian’s and Kenzie being his little sister but the pull is strong and the more time Colby and Kenzie spend together especially following Kenzie’s time in hospital and needing to move in with someone the attraction becomes impossible to ignore.
I loved Kenzie and Colby’s relationship, they are fun, flirty, hot and dirty, they’re a perfect match and I thoroughly enjoyed their journey to more, to building up the courage to telling the rest of their group and to the perfect hea.
I can’t wait to read Catherine’s story, she is a character who came into the story in book one following her divorce and was having a tough time, she has remained friends with them all since. Like I said earlier this series is addictive, the authors writing easy to follow with great word and plot building and I am looking forward to more.
Bet Me Something is Book #3 in the Something series. It can be read as a stand alone. This is Kenzie and Colby’s story and I loved it. Looking forward to continuing on with the series.
This review is from July 2016 and it was my first read by Ms. Bondurant:
You guys! This book was SO GOOD!! Aubrey Bondurant’s fabulous storytelling sucked me in from the very beginning and had me turning page after page, thoroughly enjoying every minute. Her writing style is one I highly enjoy and I couldn’t help but greedily devour this story.
This RomCom has the perfect blend of sass & heart and is loaded with plenty of humor that made me laugh out loud. Bet Me Something is book #3 in the Something series, but can be read as a stand-alone. But, trust me, if you read this one first, you will want to dive into books 1 & 2 – just like I did.
The author did a great job at creating interesting & lovable characters that captured my heart and made me fall in love. The witty banter between Kenz & Colby was absolutely charming and had me smiling from ear to ear for most of the book. These two are perfect together. Their chemistry is so natural, so intoxicating, and so very HOT. The steamy scenes were filled with passion, increased my heart rate, and I’m pretty sure I had to fan myself a time or two.
Ms. Bondurant is a new-to-me author and I am absolutely in love with her and her writing. I’m going to keep her. She is on my radar and I cannot wait to read her next story in the series! I messaged her to let her know just that…and kindly asked her to write faster. I said please…I hope that helps. 😉
This story is super fun & sexy and I’ll be telling everyone I know to read this!
Bet Me Something (Something Series Book 3) by Aubrey Bondurant is a contemporary, new adult, erotic, friends-to-lovers romantic comedy. Although it’s the third in a series, this book can be read as a standalone. It follows the relationship between 22-year-old college student, Kenzi, and 31-year-old Colby, her longtime crush and younger brother to her older brother’s best friend.
Kenzie and Colby grew up next door to one another. She always had a crush on him and he always knew but never acted on it. Colby has a player’s reputation and has always thought of Kenzie as a little sister. Over the past four years, while she was in LA for college, they got to know each other better and became closer friends. Despite his attraction for her, Colby has put Kenzie in the off-limits category. Will Kenzie be able to get out of the friend zone? Will Colby be able to let go of the past?
I really enjoyed this story. I loved Kenzie and Colby as characters. They were very likeable and their witty banter was so much fun. The book had more graphic sex scenes than I’d prefer, but there was enough of a good, solid, entertaining plot that it was not overshadowed by all the sex. Funny, steamy, touching and sweet – each book in this series is better than the one that came before. This one’s my favorite so far.
