For as long as I can remember, I’ve been the dark to my sister’s light—the awkward loner to her social butterfly. Growing up, she had it all: our parent’s unyielding approval, perfect grades, a permanent spot at the popular table, and the attention of the hottest guy ever—Duke Kincaid. After eighteen years of living in her shadow, I couldn’t wait to escape—to finally be my own person. Yet here I … Yet here I am, I’m back in my hometown, once again in Valorie’s shadow. Only now, it’s eternal.
I had life all planned out: join the force, marry Valorie Parsons, and start a family of our own. I have the job, but the girl and all my dreams died before my very eyes.
At the urging of my friends, I agree to a blind date. Imagine my shock when I arrive and find, Valorie’s twin sister, waiting across the table from me. Mallory should be a reminder of all that I’ve lost, but instead she feels like my redemption . . . like maybe life’s giving me a second chance.
But, how can I be enough for her when I’ve already given her sister the best of me?

LK Farlow LK Farlow Man oh man what can I say? I’m always excited to jump into one of Kate’s books!!! Soo when I first opened this book & read the prologue, I was reading along as I normally would. By the time I got to the end of the prologue, I was near tears so I had to set my phone down and take a second to compose myself before I could continue reading!!! The prologue ripped my heart out!! But I’m so happy that I did continue reading!!
At one point I posted this online.. So I’m reading “best of me”. Last night my kindle app showed I was at 43%, an hour later I had to stop at 74% when i literally couldn’t hold my eyes open anymore! Kate’s words just flow . You guys are in for an experience when you read this one!!”
This book had me feeling all the feels!!
Some of my favorite lines are:
“I. Love. You. I’ve loved you since I kissed you in Alden’s laundry room.”
“Exactly! It’s just like that. Mr. Duke knocked over your block heart and made you sad and mad. But remember what you told Amelia, Ms. Mally? You tolded her it was okay because she could rebuild them into something even better! You can do that too! You can rebuild your heart with Mr. Duke into something better!”
“You love my weird, bitch”
This was an emotional story of healing and getting a second chance at finding happiness and love. When Duke lost the love of his life, he thought she took the best of him with her. However, he is about to discover that his best is yet to come.
Mallory has lived in her sister’s shadow her entire life. The first chance she had, she left her family behind to start her own life. Now she’s back, just one town over from where she grew, starting a new job. Leaving her sister had been hard and now that she’s gone, she lives with that guilt.
Mallory never expected to see Duke again. He was Val’s. Val loved him completely. Now she is forced to face her past and the guilt that she carries.
Struggling to move forward after the most devastating loss, Duke is floundering. He never expected Mallory. She’s nothing like her twin sister. She’s everything he needs to heal. He just doesn’t want to want her. Falling for your dead girlfriend’s sister is just wrong…isn’t it?
Duke wants nothing to do with Mallory. She’s a constant reminder of the love that he lost. The only problem is that he is drawn to her. Their connection is undeniable, no matter how hard each pushes the other away. It’s up to them whether they choose to embrace a new love and move forward or let the past continue to tear them apart.
This story was emotional and beautiful. It definitely tore at the heart strings. I felt their struggle between honoring Valorie’s memory and also choosing happiness. It really wasn’t a choice, because both were something they should have had. They deserved peace with the past and a forever love. In the end, it should never be a question…love always wins!
Best of Me is a second chance at love story which breaks through quite a few barriers. It is a unique and thought provoking tale but also a beautiful love story. L.K. Farlow tackles the subject matter in this story with flawless grace, and the characters’ emotional states offer the readers a glimpse into how two people can connect through shared grief and more importantly, beyond their grief.
On paper, Duke and Mallory shouldn’t work. But their connection is undeniable and they can’t help the attraction to each other. They’ve both been through hell and back and find solace in the other. It’s not an easy journey, and there are bumps along the way. Duke and Mallory may have a rocky start, but love always wins. And their love is absolutely epic.
Best of Me is my favorite book in this series and it’s no surprise that Duke and Mallory are my favorite as well. Duke is everything charming and had me swooning nonstop. Mallory is so strong, determined and a fighter. They both were every bit deserving of a HEA. Every page captivated me and I couldn’t turn them fast enough. I was completely enraptured with L.K. Farlow’s words and I felt like I was in this story right along with the characters. A beautiful and heartfelt second chance romance with all the emotions.
Wow what an emotional book. I was crying just a few pages in. Duke a man who loses it all. Mallory a women who just wants to be loved for who she is. A girl who was never wanted to a women who is loved by almost all. She has a hear t of gold. A boy who loved with all his heart to lose that love. But learns to love another. Such a great read !!! Really enjoyed it !!
