When best laid plans go awry, it might be time to make a new plan.
Former SEAL Hugh “Heff” Bradley has put aside his womanizing ways to focus on making the Sanctuary a place for veterans in need. He knows how difficult the transition back to civilian life can be; he’s walked the razor’s edge himself a few times.
His plan: Use his special skills to make the project a reality and stop those … reality and stop those trying to sabotage it. That means keeping his head down and his hands to himself. Then he meets her.
Sandy Summers knows exactly what she wants: to get out of Sumneyville for good. Fate seems to be conspiring against her, however, throwing up one obstacle after another. Her plan: Work two jobs, attend night school to earn a degree, accept a job offer in the city, and never look back.
Impulsively hooking-up with the sexy, skilled SEAL before she leaves wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was her absentee father showing up on her doorstep after fifteen years with another game changer. But she’s worked too hard and too long not to stick to her plan, even if it means walking away from the only good thing that’s happened to her in years.
Heff and Sandy know firsthand what can happen to the best laid plans. But when getting back on track means sacrificing a chance at true happiness, do they take it? Or do they make a new plan?
Best Laid Plans is a contemporary love story with enough steam, suspense, and humor to give you all the feels and leave you smiling.

I absolutely love Heff and Sandy! First I want to say that I love the book cover. He looks like Heff’s description and he is swoon material. I admit to spending a lot of time looking at his picture.
I love Abbie’s books. They have great plots with romance, suspense, hot alpha males who are sweet and protective of their family and women.
Abbie is a wonderful writer who brings the plot and characters to life. The book flows well. There are no slow parts. It keeps you interested from beginning to end. The suspense factor was not as pronounced in this book as it was in her other books but that did not take anything away from the book. In fact it was a added surprise because things don’t happen the way you expect.
Of coarse the whole Sanctuary gang appear in the book, along with the Callahan’s and Brian and Tori. All books with Seals in it have the nicknames being interchanged with real names. Sometimes it gets confusing but that is not a problem in this book. I really enjoyed the focus placed on Danny and Kevin and how the friendship and hippotherapy benefits them.
I hope to see Lenny redeem himself in later books. Maybe he was uncover or something not really a bad guy.
There isn’t any bad points to the book. It is a must read! I did receive a free copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
This just goes to prove that sometimes once is not enough! It just goe to show that you can have your life all planned out and boom, something or someone will change everything in a heartbeat. I love Abbie Zanders and the way she writes. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Abbie Zanders has become one of my new favorite authors. Strong alpha males and stronger ladies. This book is about a SEAL and a local woman with long delayed dreams, about a place called Sanctuary and a group of brother SEALS building their own dream. Bravo!!!
I loved this book. Hugh and Sandy were perfect for each other. Sweet, generous, loving, and hard-headed. The perfect match. I loved seeing the Callaghan clan and friends making an appearance. Action, suspense, humor, and sexy times. Best Laid Plans is a must read. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this amazing series.
Another fantastic book by Abbie Zanders. Heff and Sandy’s story resonated with me and left my heart doing a happy dance. Zanders astounds again with such a great story with the perfect balance of angst, intrique, sacrifice, and passion with such a fantastic storyline at its core. This book had more than passionate moments, it had everything in between. And for those who are fans of Zanders Callaghan series (of which I highly recommend) you’ll enjoy some of the guest appearances in this book.
Hawt, sexy, life changing, emotional, sometimes what you think you want the most is really not what you want, romance that had me laughing, crying and cheering for these 2. Loved it!!
Fantastic Book!
This book is amazing! You think you have it all figured out, then Ms Zanders does what she does best an throws you for a loop. Heff and Sandy are a great couple and you could feel the sparks between them from the first (if you read Protecting Sam first).
This book is book two in the Sanctuary series, but the first is not necessary to follow and enjoy this book completely.
Not only do we get a great new hero and heroine but Brain McCain and Tori are a part of the story and a couple of cameos was f the Callaghans.
Shattered dreams, small town politics, amazing secondary characters and a storyline that holds your attention.
Loved it all and look forward to the next book in the series.
Sandy wanted to live in the big city but when her half brother shows up those plans take a back seat She and Hugh start out with sizzling romance but when he finds out about her half brother he wants to slow down and get to know her he wants her for always they continue to have sizzling romance He is great with the brother because his sister was challenged too when Cage finds her brother’s mom she comes to get him and in a flash they are gone so Sandy gets the chance to go to the city for her dream job but its not what she thought it would be she comes back for Christmas and He doesn’t want to let her go the mom asks Sandy to be a legal guardian to the brother if something happens to her she and Hugh agree a happy ending
I enjoyed this book very much. It was nice to see the guys form the first book and to see what their doing with Sanctuary. We also got to see the Callaghan brothers and their wife’s which was great! We have Heff who works at Sanctuary and we have Sandy who is ready to leave small town life behind till her father leaves her autistic rother on her doorstep There’s action, drama, and we learn some more about Heff’s past. I like the way Abbie handle the brother and gave us a look into his life and what Sandy had to deal with every day. Can’t wait to see where book 3 take’s us!
Allow a full day for this steamy small town tale which touches on autism and PTSD. This is the second in a series and I really wish I had read the first book. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
I love this book. It’s full of action, danger and finding that elusive someone. Abbie Zanders never disappoints. This author is a wonderful storyteller and writes beautiful characters. An excellent read.
I ran across” Ms. Abbie’s Callaghan series a few years back. This series is an off-shoot if the Callaghan books. (Which in my opinion is one of her best series.)
Book one of the Sanctuary series was a page burner, with a bit of intrigue. This book, while far from boring; didn’t quite hold up to the same expectation. But, taken on its own is still quite excellent. It got a little slow in parts, but still held my interest. I have an idea Ms. Abbie may be building up to something with a few aspects of the story (not giving it away..)
I truly loved the autistic brother to the lead female character. Having a highly functioning autistic nephew, that I raised for a number of years and dearly love; I did enjoy how Ms. Abbie showed him opening up because of the horses. Horses and dogs the greatest creatures on earth for all of us!
The romance part was mild, but believable. I think it’s worth your time and money.
Sometimes a change in plans is necessary and for the best.
Sandy and Heff are an unlikely couple. Heff is a ladies man and Sandy, a small town waitress. When sparks fly and a one night stand results, neither one is prepared for the feelings it evokes.
Sandy has big plans to move to the city and become a graphics designer. Her plans change when her step-brother is dropped in her lap and she becomes his primary care-giver.
Heff is helping with the remodel and construction at Sanctuary. He’s looking forward to the quiet and peacefulness of living in a small town.
While Sandy’s big move is put on hold, she and Heff become closer and begin to have major feelings for each other. Both are afraid of what the future may hold. Sandy has to decide what’s more important-her career or Heff.
Loved how the characters grew as people throughout the book. Each learned more about themselves and I was ecstatic when they worked out all the problems in the end. As always, there was some suspense and danger. Love the small mystery in the background of the love story. Another hit from Abbie Zanders!
Best Laid Plans by Abbie Zanders is an awesome contemporary romance. Ms. Zanders has once more delivered a well-written book, but let me warn you, once you start it you won’t be putting it down. AND…her books are addictive. I can’t seem to get enough. The characters in this story are phenomenal, my favorite part of the book. Sandy has had a sad and underprivileged background, but she’s finally ready to move on to the city and leave her hometown behind. Until her father arrived on her doorstep. Heff was a partner in Sanctuary, an operation to help vets. Heff and Sandy’s story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, suspense, action and outstanding dialog. I loved every page of this book and look forward to my next book by Abbie Zanders. Best Laid Plans is book 2 of the Sanctuary Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Abbie Zanders knocks it out of the park with the second book in the Sanctuary series. Heff and Sandy are a one night stand that turn in to more. Sometimes even the best laid plan can change. Loved it, graet job Abbie.
Omg this book started off hot n sexay and never stopped!! Sandy and Heff had an amazing chemistry. My heart went out to Kevin.
HEA RULE!!!!
Abbie Zanders always weaves a good tale. Best Laid Plans is no exception. I found this to be an exceptionally emotional story. Heff and Sandy are wonderful couple. Kevin, Brian, Tori, and the Sanctuary crew make an entertaining group. This story has a great plot, cool characters, feels, some suspense, and a happily ever after. Who says that your dream always has to go as planned? I can’t wait For the next Sanctuary book!
I am a huge fan of Abbie Zanders’ books and was very excited to read ‘Best Laid Plans’. I read the first in the Sanctuary series “Protecting Sam” when it was a Kindle Worlds book (since rewritten and rereleased – and I bought it to read again). I loved the idea of Sanctuary in part because of the way Abbie handled the needs of many of our veterans and I had been waiting for the next book in the series. Based on the type of drama in the first book, I kept expecting something bad to happen to Sandy (female lead) and while there was some danger near the end of the book, the drama in this book was more about figuring out what is important in life. This is a slow burn love story, which may seem unexpected since the book opens after Sandy and Heff (Hugh) have a ‘one-night stand’. Both characters have faced serious challenges and neither is looking for or prepared for love, but they can’t fight the connection they feel (but they do try). Heff is a reformed ‘player’ which explains the nickname (changed his ways even before he meets Sandy) and works out to be a pretty perfect book boyfriend – passionate, alpha without being a jerk, great with kids, puts her needs before his own, and of course handsome as sin. Sandy has had a challenging life and been let down many times resulting in pretty low expectations of just about everyone. How she works through previous disappointments, finds friends and works out what her dreams really are is uplifting. Both characters are such good people who care for others that you are rooting for them as individuals and as a couple. There are plot elements that are not resolved in the story that I assume will play out in future books in the series; however, there is no cliffhanger and the reader does not have to have read the first book to enjoy this one. I also loved that we got to catch up with characters from other books like the Callaghan Brothers. I got this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review. I strongly recommend this book or really anything by this author.
BEST LAID PLANS by Abbie Zanders. BEST LAID PLANS tells the tale of Heff and Sandy. Heff, a former SEAL, has been around the world and seen and done more than the average townfolk. He’s uber sexy with a heart of gold. Sandy has had it rough – life just seems to keep throwing her curveballs. My heart did hurt for her, when once again, her dreams are put on hold. However, I liked her more and more as the story progressed and her character grew emotionally for me. Together, they are off the charts HOT and seem to balance each other perfectly. More than once, Ms. Zanders had my heart fluttering, be it from a sexy scene to a heartbreaking one, I was truly engaged in this tale. This was certainly a love story, without as much danger and mystery as some of her other stories, but still held my interest throughout. It was wonderful to see some characters pop in from other works by this author, although it is not necessary to read those stories to enjoy this one. I do recommend them, though, as they are a treat as well. (received ARC for honest review)
