“A moving story of second chances that left me with a huge smile on my face.” -Mary, USA Today HEA The summer before my senior year of high school I had only one goal: to make Alden Warner see me as more than his best friend’s annoying little sister. Finally, my wish came true and he noticed me. In a big way. Too bad that the next morning he had no memory of our night together, leaving me … leaving me heartbroken, and as I later discovered…pregnant.
For the last four years, I’ve been rocking the single mom thing, making sure my daughter comes first. In fact, everything is going fine—until Alden storms back into my life, as my new boss.
His reappearance wasn’t something I planned for. Add my nosy, meddlesome three-year-old and an overprotective brother, and I’m obviously in way over my head.
My only hope now is that I can sway Alden to see things my way…but you know what they say about the best laid plans…

I loved Alden and Nat. Their characters are well written and relatable. When you are young you make choices that at the time seem right and the best decision. We don’t always think what our choices may do to others or we think we are doing the best thing for them. This is what Nat does and a when Alden returns to her life and she has to reveal some truths to him she sees how her choices may not have been the best but at 17 they seemed so to her. Alden and Nat take a while to work these things out which makes them more real to the reader. Little Tatum is just the cutest child character. I loved the interaction she has with all the other people in the story. The story flows really well and I loved every minute of it. Didn’t want it to end. If you are looking for a sweet finally being with your first love romance this is it.
This is by far L.K Farlow’s best book to date. Natalie and Alden have a past that unfortunately, only one of them remembers. They also have a TON of chemistry which Alden wants to pursue now that Nat is all grown up. However, when Nat drops the kind of truth bomb that changes lives, they both must learn to adjust to their new reality.
After Simon, I did not think it was possible to love a hero more but ladies, get ready for Alden. He is what book boyfriend dreams are made of. Nat and Tatum are great characters as well and their eventual family dynamic is so heartwarming. Nate needs a book now!
Alden and Natalie!!! Love this sweet story!!
Natalie a young single mom – made some mistakes! Admits her mistakes! Wanting to do the right thing for her daughter!!
Alden- always cares for Natalie – his best friend’s sister!! As he find out details from the past- he works to make things right!
I loved the honesty, the support and love of this book. Life is not easy, we make mistakes everyday, that’s ok and when honest with those around us- happiness can exist!!
LK Farlow gives such a wonderful book where love is does exist!!!
This was such a good read! Absolutely one of my favorite unexpected pregnancy stories I’ve ever read. Best Laid Plans is very well written and the story flows seamlessly. I love the characters, especially little Tatum! Her character is just precious.
An Unexpected pregnancy with a splash of A second chance romance makes this book perfect for readers who love happy endings with a little drama mixed in. Don’t hesitate to one click this book and show LK Farlow some love!
LK Farlow’s Best Laid Plans is her best work yet! I have read each book in her catalog and I have marveled at the growth of her storytelling over the last year. Best Laid Plans embodies the sweet, sizzle and fun that we expect from a book written by LK Farlow. But it employs something new as well, an increase in the angst from her other titles. The fact that LK Farlow upped that emotion made this romance more realistic—I feel like if a woman was kept a secret of the magnitude that Natalie had, they would undoubtedly find themselves in a very similar situation.
Best Laid Plans is a brother’s best friend, second chance romance. It’s written in dual perspectives. The hero, Alden is a few years older than the heroine, Natalie and has been living abroad for several years. When he returns to his hometown, his attraction to his best friends’ little sister is stronger than ever. That is until he finds out she’s kept a monumental secret from him and her whole family. This slow burn romance is sweet and sexy. Alden is swoon-worthy and Natalie’s daughter, Tatum, reminded me so much of my own three-year-old and had me cracking up. I loved that LK Farlow upped the angst factor in Best Laid Plans from some of the previous stories she’s told. I think the storyline would have suffered if she hadn’t pushed her boundaries. Best Laid Plans is an easy read. You can sit down, jump in and read it in one sitting and you’ll come away from this romance believing in second chances!
So sweet!! Natalie is sassy, kind, independent, strong, and simply awesome. Alden is simply dreamy! And Tatum, that little girl is just plain irresistible! Natalie gets her happy ending after 3 years of single motherhood. All of Alden’s dreams come true also. The trip may have taken a detour or two but in the end, they reach their destination. All the sticky, sugary sweetness you may desire, plus some heat. A fantastic read! I received an advance copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
A teenage girl. Her brother’s best friend, who she has crushed on for forever. A drunken night. You can predict the rest.
Fast forward three years. Natalie and her sweet girl, Tatum, are getting by. Her brother and parents are nearby for support.
Suddenly Alden (the brother’s BFF) is back in town and stirring up feelings in Natalie, and secrets.
One part brother’s best friend. One part second chance romance. One part “oops there’s a baby”. And mix in a little workplace romance! Sounds crazy, but it all works!
I loved Alden & Natalie, but Tatum stole the show for me! I love a little girl with sass & spunk!! And her relationship with Alden was adorable from the start.
I’d say this is my favorite book to date by this author (& I’m hoping there’s a Nate/Jenny story on the horizon!!)
Best Laid Plans is an amazing story about not letting the past hold you back from the future. Natalie shows you that even when you make mistakes when you are younger it does not define who you are and your happiness! Such a fantastic read! There isn’t a single person who shouldn’t read this book!
Y’all already know, I love me some Kate Farlow. I’ve been a fan since I discovered Coming Up Roses… and I knew then that she would be going places. I’m so excited that I can be on sidelines to watch her grow and succeed while cheering her on.
Best Laid Plans was another winner for me. It’s not a home run but it’s definitely a triple.
You get a little bit of everything with this book.
You like the brother’s best friend trope?
It’s got it!
Like single parents?
Done!
Secret baby?
Boom, baby!
Office romance?
Yes, sir!
See? What did I tell you? It’s got it all!
You’re probably thinking “Allyson, if it’s so great, why isn’t it a home run?!”
Well, we all like something different… FOR ME, I saw the story going a certain way and there was just something that I believed was a key aspect of the story that I would’ve liked to see more of throughout the book.
Even though that didn’t pan out for me, it didn’t take away from the writing and overall storytelling.
I thought Best Laid Plans was a really good read. It kept me interested throughout. I didn’t want to put it down for a second!
Kate just has a way with storytelling and knows how to keep readers interested and on the edge of their seat to find out what’s happening next.
This is definitely a book that I will read again and I cannot wait for more from her!
(I also can’t wait to grab that paperback… that cover deserves ALL the hearts eyes!! )
Words to describe this book a beautiful heart breaking story about a girl named Natalie that is in love with her brothers best friend Alden that finally gets a chance to be with him but the only thing is the next day he doesn’t remember but years later they see each other in a awkward situation but she’s harboring a secret that could destroy lives! You will laugh & cry reading this book beware but I promise it’s well worth it! You will fall in love with this book like I did!
Loved it. Super sweet with a side of drama. My favorite part of the book had to be Tatum. She was the cutest freaking thing ever and I loved all the talking she did. The characters were great as well. They had awesome chemistry and really clicked. Overall a great read with a cute ending.
Gosh, I’m not sure where to start on this review. Each book LK Farlow writes I feel like it’s as good as the previous one, I wouldn’t be able to pick a favorite. How can you not love a book with a three year old? The way LK Farlow writes I can really imagine Tater Tot saying it, with her little kid accent, it’s the cutest. And then Alden that steps up without a hesitation to be a dad. I loved this book, definitely need a tissue or two at the end….
So so good. If you loveeee the brother’s best friend trope then this book is up your alley! I loved how Natalie just took responsibility for what had happened and made sure Tatum was well taken care of no matter what. Alden was a great guy and loooveeeed all the food. TATUM was super adorable. I loved how she talked and everything. I will say I’m begging absolutely begging for a story for Jenny and/or Nate, Natalie’s older brother because um hellooooo I need more of those two together or not. Idc. Just gimme something Haha.
I loved it. You can tell there’s personal experience when it came to certain scenarios in the story from L.K. This book was funny, loving, and had some feels. I tried to put myself in Nats shoes and I would have done the same in her situation. It’s a must read!
I am so in love with Natalie and Alden’s story. This was the perfect second chance/secret baby romance. It was swoony and tense. Sexy and funny. As someone who became a mom at the same age as Natalie I felt her struggle and feelings so much. The author did such a great job of expressing the emotion and drama that can come with a storyline like this. I appreciated that she didn’t keep it all sunshine and rainbows. She showed the struggles. She showed the strains it can have on all the relationships in her life. It was real. I just really enjoyed this read. This is definitely one I’ll be coming back to read again and again.
We all know what they say about Best Laid Plans…
He was the guy she was crushing on forever. However, he was also her brother’s best friend. Nothing was ever supposed to happen…until it did. Too bad he doesn’t even remember.
Four years have passed and Natalie is the single mom of an adorable 3 year old girl. Tatum is all love, light and sass! You cannot help but fall in love with this kid. Natalie does online classes at night to get her degree while working at a cafe by day. And she has a new boss…
Nate is back in town after traveling and studying in Europe to become a chef. He’s determined to take back the cafe his family once owned and make it the success it was meant to be. He soon finds out that the sister of his high school best friend is now his employee.
Natalie is keeping a big secret and she knows that it’s finally time to come clean.
The chemistry between Alden and Natalie was just irresistible! They were super hot and totally sweet and being witness to Alden falling in love with his little girl will just melt you. It was a great read with lots of heat and sweet!
First book by this author and it my ah-mazing!! It had all the feels! It tore your heart to pieces and put it all back together. Tator Tot stoled the show and owned my heart! What a great story about how things that happen seem so bad but end up in the most perfect way. Such a sweet read with the right amount of hotness to it. Loved Alden and Nat’s story. I’m hoping for Nate’s story now (hint, hint).
Best Laid Plans was so good! I loved loved it! Natalie, Alden and sweet little Tatum were awesome! Natalie and Alden had amazing chemistry. They were perfect together! Little Tator Tot was so adorable. This was a beautiful and sweet read! Definitely recommend!
Oh, what a ride this book was! Natalie has had a crush on Alden forever and doesn’t realize that their one time together was while he was so drunk, he doesn’t remember it. When that test comes up positive, she sees that he’s moved on with another woman, so she keeps the news to herself….until the day Alden comes back to town.
Alden has been burned by his ex and is now face to face with his best friend’s sister, who just happens to be the same woman he’s harbored feelings for for years. Unfortunately, he handles Natalie’s revelation worse than just about anyone could, and crushes Natalie with zero effort. Then he continues to crush her, just for spite, until he realizes just how nasty he’s being and how scared she must’ve been on her own.
Once Alden’s brain finally kicks his feelings back into place, he decides that he wants a real chance with Natalie. We have a few bumps, caused by bitterness and regret, but these two finally find their way and Alden finally puts his head back on his shoulders, where it belongs.
This book was so fast and difficult to put down that I finished it in an afternoon, which made me happy and sad. Happy that I got Alden and Natalie’s story and HEA, but sad that the book was done.
Good Heavens, Best Laid Plans has it all!
– Brother’s Best Friend
– Age Gap
– Boss and Employee Relationship
– Secret Baby
– Sexual Tension
– Drunken Nights
– Lust-filled Looks (see sexual tension)
– Teenage Pregnancy/Mom
– An adorable little 3-year old that you just want to gobble up!
Everything made this book impossible to put down. I fell for Tatum so darn quick!! All of Natalie’s family was sweet as pie… ok, so there was a couple scenes where they might not be considered pie-like by Alden but I loved it and saw the sweetness that is a family being there for family. That’s one thing Best Laid Plans shows in spades… family love and loyalty. In my heart I know that what Nat did is wrong, hiding something that big is monumental and life changing but… I understand it. The age gap makes it tricky and the memory of the night is shaky so … yeah, I understand her side and I’m gonna stop because I feel a rant coming!! I could also see Alden’s struggle with the anger and hurt… the betrayal. I understood how he felt like time was stolen from him because it was.
BSP made my heart happy! I flew through the entire book in a day, ok just a few hours really!! It was adorably sweet. It made me want to spend the day cooking with my daughter and husband. Ms. Farlow has a great way of developing her story because while this story was angsty and there were lies and secrets; it never felt overdone or too much… it all felt plausible. I think I enjoy that the most in Farlow’s books… it seems like it could happen. Keep it up Farlow… you know, right into giving us Nate’s story!!! Grabby hands on the cop!!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
