OMG! What a jerk!!! Grayson is just one of those characters you have a love/hate relationship with. I hated him at the very beginning. How could you not want your best friend to be happy?!?! Callie was a better person than I would have been. I’d been all up in his face asking him what his problem was. The circumstances around his behavior is heart-wrenching but inexcusable. I ended up loving him in the end. I was glad things worked out for them because they made a great couple. The characters were well-developed and the chemistry/connection between them was explosive. I didn’t see the twist coming at the end. I won’t give it away but it was surprising! I can’t wait to read Lulu’s next work…
I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy of this book….
Best Jerk
When wedding planner Callie is asked by her BFF to plan her wedding, she is reluctant, but agrees none the less. Her BFF and her fiance haven’t been together very long and Callie is concerned that their whirlwind romance and engagement may be too hasty.
Little did Callie know that her doubts about the happy couple would be the least of her worries. Best man Grayson arrives on scene “to help” plan the wedding and to support his friend. Grayson is also skeptical about the rush wedding, but instead of silently supporting his friend, he goes out of his way to sabotage the wedding planning at every turn.
Grayson drives Callie absolutely insane and not just in a bad way either. He’s a jerk, but he’s a hot jerk and the angry sparks between them eventually heat up over time and the resulting chemistry between them is off the charts hot.
Will the wedding go off despite Grayson’s interference? Will Callie regret allowing her heart to thaw to the jerk Grayson? Will either of these couples end up with their happily ever after?
Callie is the owner of Somewhere Special Weddings. As a wedding planner, she has seen it all – from bridezillas to overbearing mothers or in-laws and everything in between. When her best friend Abigail announces her engagement to Carter and fairly quick wedding plans are made, Callie never expects to have any issues planning the nuptials. Enter one moody, broody best man named Grayson. He is doing everything he can think of to sabotage his best friend’s upcoming wedding. Between upsetting the bride and groom-to-be, Grayson has also made it a mission to annoy the wedding planner. Callie may be hot but her condoning this wedding makes her an enemy. Grayson carries some emotional baggage and he may just ruin the relationship between Abigail and Carter and alienate Callie before all is said and done.
Best Jerk is a book full of various emotions. Grayson can’t believe his buddy is shacking up with someone he just met and is preparing to take the plunge. Carter and Abigail don’t even really know each other. Part of Grayson’s issues stem from a tragedy in his past and the fact that Carson will be moving to where Abigail is, essentially leaving Grayson behind. When he meets Callie, sparks fly but he denies them right up until he doesn’t and they end up in a situation neither expected. The more time they spend together, the stronger their connection becomes until it just can’t be denied anymore.
I will admit, I didn’t really like Grayson all that much – but considering the title of the book is Best Jerk, that’s exactly what the author was aiming for. Grayson comes across as a whiny teenager throughout the majority of the beginning of the book. It’s hard to tolerate an alpha male that grumps around all the time. As he had to be reminded multiple times, this wedding and the relationship between Carter and Abigail is not about him. How he could even think otherwise blew my mind.
Some of the dialogue in the book wasn’t very strong or written conversationally. What was said between characters seemed somewhat forced and unnatural. This made it hard for me to remain engaged in the book, at times. I didn’t stay away for long, however, because I needed to know if the emotional baggage Grayson carried got resolved. I needed to see if Grayson succeeded in ruining the wedding and relationship between Abigail and Carter. I also needed to see if the author did the chemistry between Callie and Grayson justice.
A fun story with steamy moments, I enjoyed Best Jerk and am glad I stuck with it through the grump phase of the best jerk… um, man – I meant best man.
