Summer had returned. The nightlife lit up the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama with scantily clad sun-kissed bodies, live music, the smell of fresh cooked seafood. Taking it all in, he wondered if coming back had been the best thing. He wasn’t the same man who had driven out of town a year ago on the motorcycle he’d bought after his best friend’s wedding. From the messy blonde curls he’d let … let grow out, to the tattoos now covering his arms, part of his chest and even the side of his neck, it all represented a part of his journey. Eli Hardy was back, but he didn’t plan on staying for long.

I truly enjoyed reading Eli Hardy and Ophelia Finlay’s story. Best I’ve Ever Had is Book 3 in the Sea Breeze Meets Rosemary Beach Series. This book can be read as a standalone, as I can attest to since I unfortunately had not read any of the previous books in this series and had no trouble following along.
I felt this story primarily focused more on Eli’s character. He so obviously is seen as the nice guy and he’s hurting because he keeps getting left behind. That would totally mess with anyone’s head, and leaves you questioning what’s wrong with me? Am I flawed? Eli is not alone in that sentiment as Ophelia is in the same boat. Though most would assume that Ophelia is doing the leaving.
After Bliss’ wedding, Eli takes some advice from Cruz to leave town and live. Upon hearing about his Gran’s illness, he returns for the first time a year later a truly changed man. Friends and family don’t know the new Eli and find it hard to understand the changes in him.
“Life had changed me. They would never understand just how much. No one would and I wasn’t ready to tell anyone why or how. I had dealt with the demons and they hadn’t destroyed me. But there were times I thought little reminders just might.”
Ophelia is the only person who seems to calm the darkness within Eli. She may carry some issues of her own, but she is the balm that Eli needs after his experiences.
“Where Ophelia was sunlight and positivity, I was darkness and pain.”
I’d like to thank the author and The Next Step PR with providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Best I’ve Ever Had by Abbi Glines is a MUST read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!
When we first meet up with Eli, he’s lost. A total mess. He’s falling hard, but in that moment of despair, he’s given the chance to leave. A chance to go find himself and live his life to the fullest. But, when a family crisis has him returning just a short year later, Eli comes back a changed man. The old Eli has been left behind and in his place is a more rugged, tattooed version with secrets and pain in his eyes. Eli doesn’t plan on staying home longer than he has to…that is until Ophelia Finlay enters the picture. Ophelia is like a breath of fresh air and represents everything Eli never knew that he wanted. He wants nothing more than to stay away, but the pull towards Ophelia will prove very hard to ignore…..
Best I’ve Ever Had is classic Abbi Glines. With her fast paced, yet beautiful writing, she has delivered a story that not only pulls at your heart, but is completely addictive. Eli & Ophelia fall hard and fast and their story will leave you glued to the pages. I don’t know about you guys, but I am a total sucker for the bad boy. You know the kind I’m talking about. The kind that has secrets and has been hurt by love in the past. The kind that thinks there’s no way he’s good enough and doesn’t deserve the love of a good woman. That in a nutshell is Eli. He is the sweetest guy, if only he could let his fears stay away. And Ophelia is the light to his darkness. She accepts Eli for who is and for all of his faults. I loved the push and pull between the two of them and I loved watching the two of them try to figure things out. While these two fell hard and fast, it wouldn’t be an Abbi Glines novel without a little angst and drama.
Overall, I found this book to be an enjoyable read. I loved the fast pace and addictive quality of the story-line. The characters did a good job of pulling me into their story and keeping my interest the entire time. I loved that this was a quick read, one that you could easily finish in a single sitting. And while The Best I’ve Ever Had does wrap up Eli & Ophelia’s story, I’m not gonna lie, I would have loved a little more of their story in the end…just a chapter or two more…but, I’m greedy like that 😉 I do believe the story ended the way it did so that we could start the next book in the series right where this one left off.
I had a fun time getting swept up in Best I’ve Ever Had and look forward to seeing what this author has in store for us readers next!
I really enjoyed “Best I’ve Ever Had” by Abbi Glines. I love the next generation series that highlight the grown children of the characters we fell in love with during the earlier series. This one is no exception. It’s a little confusing at first- remembering which kids belong to which character but eventually you figure it out. Regardless the characters are well written and keep you entertained throughout the book.
It’s a great addition to your book collection.
Happy Reading…enjoy!
i thought it was too short, like half a book.
I really enjoyed this book from Abbi Glines. The characters were all relatable. The storyline was a steady pace that kept me sucked in from the start. Eli was so tortured. I loved how Ophelia helped him through everything. This was my first Abbi Glines book and I will definitely be reading more!
This was my first read by Abbi Glines and it makes me want to run out and find all of her other books. This book definitely made you feel. It made you hurt. It made you want. It made you smile. It made you love. It has all of the feels.
Eli is definitely a complex character. I love how his character was written and how his story was told. He was damaged. All the good male main characters are!
Ophelia is another character all of herself. I found myself liking her but then not liking her. It all depended on the scene – but I liked her for most of the book. She had good interesting qualities but fell in the trap of needing Eli.
The writing was captivating. The story line flowed very well and the dialogue felt natural, for the most part. The whole thing was fluid throughout the book.
I’m going to have to find more of her work! This really was a great read! I kept finding little bits of time to read when I wasn’t able to sit down and read because it was that good!
I was a big fan of this author’s Rosemary Beach and Sea Breeze series, read all of them, but that was the first generation group of characters, Best I’ve Ever Had consists of the second generation group of characters. The thing I liked about the story is even though you might not have picked up an Abbi Glines book for a couple of years, the story reads like you were reading it yesterday. Even though these were the kids of the Rosemary Beach series, it’s like the parents are in the story. The thing I didn’t care for, it reads like the parents story! I expected more imagination from this author, not the same old stuff, I found myself jumping ahead just to get past the repetitive characters behavior, didn’t do much for me unfortunately. What I would love to see is another series from this author to take me away like the earlier series did. Just an okay read for me.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
I haven’t read an Abbi Glines’ romance in quite some time, so I enjoyed returning to Sea Breeze, Alabama, catching up with old friends and meeting the second generation of characters in the Sea Breeze and Rosemary Beach series.
The Eli Hardy who left Sea Breeze after his best friend’s wedding is not the same one who returns when his family needs him; the once good-natured guy…the dependable, do-gooder with perpetual hope and niceties is no longer, and in his place is a man who holds pain and sorrow behind his eyes, never allowing anyone to truly seen beneath the tattoos on his body and the shadows that he seems to rely on to hide himself from those who knew him before left to live life and ended up living with regret, loss, and an emptiness that he would wish upon no one.
Ophelia Finley may have only briefly ‘known’ the Eli Hardy from a year ago, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to understand this new version of him and spend time with the man who makes her feel more than she’s felt for any guy in a long time, which both excites and scares her because she knows he’s not a safe bet and he has the ability to tear down her highest walls, destroying her heart in the process.
Eli and Ophelia’s journey to something more is a fast paced one, and while it’s clear that there are feelings of lust, pulling them towards one another, Eli’s demons keep him closed off from anything truly developing between them. I will say that I struggled to understand why Eli felt so damaged and scarred because the baggage of his past was hinted at many times before it was actually revealed and then once it was exposed, the reality of everything that happened to him was was only briefly explored and it didn’t feel like it offered up the necessary insight to all that he went through and why the peace Ophelia gave him was difficult for him to wrap his mind and his heart around without feeling like he didn’t have enough to give back to her.
Best I’ve Ever Had is a quick read that packs a lot of characters and conflicts into a small number of pages, and while I was able to comprehend the ins and outs of who was whom and what happened to the main characters, I wanted the characterization of the hero and heroine as well as the plot line to be presented with more in-depth details so that I could see a clear picture of everything and fully grasp just how significant it was for Eli and Ophelia to find their way to each other and love one another as freely as they could for as long as they could.
3.5/4 Poison Apples
“Scale from one to ten?” she asked me. That one was easy. I finally gave into the smile that tugged at my lips. “Best I ever had”
OH. MY. GOD! I seriously LOVED this book so hard! It was worth every minute of the wait! Every time I think I have a Seabreeze/Rosemary Beach crossover book favorite Abbi makes sure she proves me wrong. Best I’ve Ever Had is hands down my favorite in the series so far! I’ve been ready for Eli’s story since the series started, and Eli did not disappoint! It was nothing like what I expected it to be, yet everything I wanted it to be at the same time! It felt good to be back in Seabreeze.could not get enough of these two characters! I could not devour the pages quick enough! I just needed MORE! And the FEELS! Don’t even get me started on the FEELS! Because this book brought all of those as well! It was a emotional roller coaster ride I wanted to ride I over and over again! I never expected Eli to end up with Ophelia but man was they explosive! Their chemistry was off the charts, and smoking HOT! They was simply perfect together. Their love story definitely warmed my heart. If I had any complaints it would be why all the quick endings anymore!? A epilogue definitely goes a long way with books and its hard not to miss it when you don’t get one.
“Just watching her was like being given a small gift. Her beauty could make a man forget every dark corner of his life. That either made her dangerous or an angel. I wasn’t sure which.”
Ophelia is one of those heroines you can’t help but love. She was so easy to relate too, and such a breath of fresh air to read about. She was sassy, quirky, and unique. Her character was the perfect mix of both Rush and Blair. I loved Ophelias innocence. She was completely unaware of her beauty and charm. While easily wrapping you around her finger! She was a surprise love interest for me, but I couldnt have pictured a more fitting heroine. She took me back to the reason I loved Rosemary Beach and I can’t help but admire her character for that.
“Even if this woman found a way to destroy an already broken man, I would never regret it. Some moments were worth losing your soul over.”
Eli has officially earned a place in my favorite Abbi Glines based hero’s! Seriously I call dibs! I loved his character when he was the good guy. But I especially LOVED his character as the bad boy! Eli was the perfect mix of haunted, broding, and HOT. He commanded your attention, while melting your heart. Every time he spoke I either found myself fanning, or swooning. Even the strongest hero’s have their vulnerable moments. My heart ached for Eli so many times over this book. He is one of those characters you can’t help but root for.
“No woman will ever make you happy until you can appreciate her. Living life and making wrong choices makes it easier to know when you find what’s right.”

Well earned for another fantastic installment in the Seabreeze Meets Rosemary Beach series! I can not wait to read the next couple’s story that will be coming next! Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
This was another good story from Abbi. I liked both Eli and Ophelia. At times though it was hard for me to remember who was who, and where all the family connections came in, because there are so many characters in both the Rosemary Beach and Sea Breeze worlds.
The ending seemed a little bit abrupt without enough resolution and discussion between the characters, but all in all this was another great book from Abbi and I do look forward to seeing what comes next in this series. I can never get enough of these two worlds, and its great that there is now a crossover series.
I saw this title and let out a happy little (internal) squeal of delight. I mean it’s Sea Breeze meets Rosemary Beach!! But I have to say I was a little disappointed. There was just something off in Best I’ve Ever Had and I can’t exactly put my finger on what it is.
I will say that I liked Ophelia. She was kind, insightful and tenderhearted. But she also had her moments of boldness which were some of my favorites. Eli’s too. Sheesh Eli. What a mess he was. I liked his broken heart and pain. I liked that life changed him. I liked that only Ophelia could calm him. Could get him to open up. And I loved his dirty, dirty mouth when him and Ophelia were getting down.
There was a hair of drama when Eli’s not too distant past came back to haunt him and sent him running. But it was Ophelia, in one of her braver and possibly reckless moments, that made the effort to fight for him.
I did find the ending quite abrupt. There was the profession of love on both sides, and in the next sentence, the book was over. There was so much more that needed to be explored and said between Eli and Ophelia. She didn’t even get his side of the things that drove him away. With a touch of the sentimental, a lot of steam, and a few oh so sweet smiles, Best I Ever Had, while not Abbi Glines’s best work, was a nice easy read.
Abbi Glines never disappoints.
I was immediately drawn into the book.
Eli is a good guy who’s now supposedly a bad boy with long hair and tattoos. Eli is Marcus abs Low’s son. He took off after his best friend’s wedding to live life. He comes back a changed man. One who has experienced love, loss and lies. He and Ophelia met at Bliss’s wedding.
This is a book that you can lose yourself in and forget the outside world for a while. I liked Eli from the other books. He’s very much like his father. But he comes back a changed man.
Ophelia falls for Eli quickly and she never once him about his past. She sees the pain in his eyes and never questions him.
I would’ve liked if Eli and ophelia had sat down and talked about his past instead of she overhearing what happened. I would’ve like to know tattoos Eli had and what they meant.
A really good book where we catch up with Bliss and see what she’s up and we get to hear about Ophelia and Marcus parents and sibling. I highly recommend this series and the two series these books blend together, Sea Breeze and Rosemary beach series.
Gosh, I sincerely thought I was gonna love this book, and that was not the case. Best I’ve Ever Had was a book, that just dragged and dragged and dragged even though it was a shorter story. I seriously almost fell asleep. This is my first read by this author, and I must say, I am not particularly a fan. I feel like her writing was monotone, but in the recess of my mind, it would not shut up. There was not much dialogue between the main characters, which lead to awkwardness because it’s like, how can you have feelings for someone you barely know? Not only that, it was like the secondary characters wouldn’t stop showing up. It was like being in a house surrounded by people you do not know. So, as you can imagine, soooo awkward. It felt rushed, with too much missing information. The story was underdeveloped, as well as the characters. I also could not get over the fact that the heroine acted so desperate. She was a pushover who deserved so much more, than to beg someone to be with her. The plots held a lot of promise, but they fell through as well, because they were resolved so quickly, and pushed under the rug as if nothing had happened. And last but not least, there was not a good ending. It ended so abruptly, that I was confused for a moment.

Eli Hardy is back and not looking for love. After being gone for a year to find himself, he’s forced home for family matters. Eli is no longer the good guy, but now the moody bad boy.
Ophelia Finlay is stuck. Not happy with her last relationships and not looking for anything new. On a visit to SeaBreeze she finds herself face to face with Eli. And there is something there…
I enjoyed this story. I have been waiting for Eli’s book since this series began and I wasn’t disappointed. Eli was always quick to fall “in love” but didn’t know to true meaning. Now he’s able to get his HEA. I would have loved an epilogue, cause I do enjoy seeing how the relationships develop. BUT, I know Abbi will have them and more of their story in her next book. Thank you Abbi for keeping these stories going. I love revisiting these friends!

This was a beautiful read!! One of my favorite series ever!
There was no way to put it down! Eli has been one of my favorite characters EVER! He has always been the perfect book boyfriend and now, Abbi brings us his story and it is epic!
Eli leaves Sea Breeze to find peace, and when he comes back, he is totally different! Though this version of him is my favorite! I fall in love with him over and over again! His family and friends look at him differently but Ophelia Finlay is attracted to him and she accepts Eli in the only way he needs! God… the connection between them is great, the attraction and the chemistry is to die for! They have everything I like in a couple!
The story is full of passion, sexiness, love! I finished with a smile on my face and sad at the same time, I needed more from them!!!
Can’t wait to read the next one!
Moody and mysterious! Good guy Eli rides back into town as a broody, sexy, sad sack of a man with mystery surrounding him so thick it’s impossible to see the real guy behind all the changes. I didn’t read the previous stories in this series so I probably missed out on the good guy Eli that everyone loved. There was a glimpse in the beginning and it was kind of dark but I loved his interaction with Ophelia before he rode off to experience life and grow up. That appears to have been a bad idea. As his tragic mystery slowly unfolds he’s not the bad boy everyone thinks he is. I was confused by the suggestion that tattoos and a bad attitude made him a bad boy. Other than the dirty talking during the hot sex the only bad was his treatment of his wonderful family and friends as they tried to get to know the new Eli. He did grow on me as his love for Ophelia grew and he reconnected with his family. I really couldn’t get a bead on Ophelia other than her beauty. Her personality seemed to be all over the place but her love of family was stellar and her blossoming relationship with Eli along with her giving him the space he needed was wonderful. I didn’t get that she couldn’t figure out some of his past while they were naked and she had access to his tattoos that told the story of his time away. I wanted to know what his tattoos were all about! There were a lot of characters to keep up with in this story between his side and hers. Got a little confusing but for the most part the author did a good job of keeping us straight. I’ve read this author before and there’s something intriguing and different about her writing that I like but this story was not my favorite. I do look forward to Crimson’s story and I gather by the ending that hers might be next. Speaking of ending…good one. A little angsty but good resolve with a twist to Eli’s tragedy. Terrific cover! 3.5 stars
4 STARS FOR ELI AND OPHELIA!! This was a sexy fast read!! Ophelia and Eli have so much chemistry you can feel it on the pages. These two have had bad relationships in the past, but need each for comfort. This is the first book I had read by this author and I can’t wait to read more.
‘Best I’ve Ever Had’ is the next book in the Rosemary Beach/Sea Breeze crossover. I am a huge Abbi Glines fan! Her books are my go-to when I want a pick me up. I was so excited when Abbi announced the Sea Breeze/Rosemary Beach crossover! A whole new generation of characters to get to know and love!
“The men in my family were ridiculously protective of their women.”
Rosemary Beach gave us Rush & Blaire Finlay. Oh how we love their story!!!! Well now their baby girl, Ophelia, falls for Sea Breeze’s newest bad boy, Eli Hardy – son of Marcus & Low.
We last saw Eli at the end of Because of Lila, riding off into the sunset on a motorcycle to find adventure, go and live…..
“Make bad decisions. Get a tattoo, date a stripper, work in a bar.”
Eli returns to Sea Breeze a year later for a family emergency and is a different man. He has changed inside and out. The once reliable, good guy is now closed off and tatted up! Seems he should have stayed the nice guy because being the bad boy didn’t work out so well. His pain runs deep. And his family, well, they don’t understand what happened.
“What had this Eli seen, done and experienced that changed him so much?”
Ophelia was a surprise love interest to me. Ophelia reminds me so much of Blaire! She has an innocence that Blaire had. So unaware of her beauty and thoughtfulness. But she is hesitant from being hurt in the past. She too is lost and looking for her road to follow. She is just sort of drifting and existing.
“Everyone said I was so much like my mother. But I know it was in looks only. I looked like a young Blaire Finlay.”
Ophelia is very perceptive. She has a connection with Eli that has been there since the first time she met him one year ago at Bliss and Nate’s wedding. Ophelia can still see through the new Eli and is cautious with him.
“The easy-going Eli was gone and I wanted to warn them all to be careful.”
There is no shortage of chemistry between Eli and Ophelia. The sexy times were HOT! It brought back many memories of Rush and Blaire. Eli is a dirty dirty lover! And he also talks dirty during sex! #SorryNotSorry for the spoiler!
“The beauty beside me had no idea she was breathing life where I thought there wasn’t any.”
Here are my small “complaints”- I would have loved a bit more content. There is so much that wasn’t answered or explored. And please, please – can we have an Epilogue next book?? You dropped a bomb on us and then the book just ends…?
I hate admitting that I struggled with the beginning of the crossover series – ‘Like A Memory’. The second book in the series, ‘Because of Lila’, had an insane plot twist that I never saw coming! I felt like things were starting to shape up! I feel like Abbi is getting her groove back and I am excited! This is the author that redeemed Nan!!!!
‘Best I’ve Ever Had’ features classic Abbi Glines story telling. It is told in dual POV’s with flashbacks and references. The flow is much better. There are references to characters and their relationships to each other. A huge improvement from book one (Like A Memory) where we were introduced to A LOT of new characters with very unique names (there are sooo many).
I am hopeful that things will be even better with the next book. I am guessing we will be reading about Rush and Blaire’s older daughter Phoenix next… Abbi dropped a bomb on us and I can’t wait to see the ripple effect!
