Right out of the Pulps!
Pulp fiction required action, action, action, and ever mounting trouble for the hero. It was fiction that was visceral. And that’s what we have in KD McNiven’s “Bermuda Conspiracy”. The story starts with action and it never lets up. Decker and company are in trouble right from the beginning and that too never lets up.
Some of the scenes will stretch your suspension of disbelief. Just go with the flow. This is pulp-style fiction, after all. Just enjoy the story and don’t sweat the small stuff.
If you are looking for a read that keeps you on the edge of your seat, then this book and the entire Decker and Callie series are for you. Give them a try — you won’t be sorry.
Action/Adventure stories are among my favorites. Clive Cussler (along with his many co-authors) and David Wood are just a couple that I consider top-notch. And with the fabulous Decker and Callie series, you can add K.D. McNiven to this list of top-notch Action/Adventure writers. In her newest book, Bermuda Conspiracy, McNiven takes the series in a whole new direction, mixing in science-fiction, terrorists, and a government cover-up, amping up the thrills to a level that James Rollins, who writes the Sigma-Force actions novels, would be proud of! And… I LOVED it!
The story begins with the Haydens and crew breaking in their new luxury yacht, the Jade II, off the coast of Miami. The pleasure cruise soon takes a dangerous turn as they venture into the Bermuda Triangle and get caught in what appears to be an electro-magnetically charged storm. As they fight through the high-wind and rain, what they find seems impossible to believe. From there, with the help of good friend Dax Drake and his salvage team, they quickly get caught up in trying to solve multiple murders, kidnapping, espionage, and a cover-up that reaches back to the 1950s.
As a reader of this genre, I expect the action to be plentiful, and McNiven delivers in high doses of heart-pounding action from beginning to end. I really enjoyed the direction this story took in this, the 3rd book in the series, and hope that we will see more of this type of storyline weaved into the pulse-racing adventures I’ve come to expect with Decker and Callie. This is a 5 STAR read and I highly recommend it!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Bermuda Conspiracy. K D is an excellent storyteller. She weaves an intricate plot which periodically strays in a seemingly uncorrelated direction. This is not a bad thing.
It kept my interest throughout as I waited to see just how she would pull it off. Sure enough, near the end it all comes together quite nicely and the dots connect. The book features a diverse cast of characters, Decker, Callie, Dax, Polly and others. Each, along with their individual specialty or skill, add plenty of mystery and intrigue.
You won’t go wrong with this book. I’m happy to recommend it and looking forward to reading more by this author.
