Welcome to Tilley, GeorgiaEx-FBI agent Benny James tries to disappear and retire on a houseboat in this sleepy lake town, but the local police won’t let him spend his days basking in the sun. Murder comes to town and they need his help.Introducing Benny JamesHe’s cool, calm, and you guessed it – collected. The FBI calls it fired but Benny would rather use the term retired when talking about his … the term retired when talking about his former career. He was the best of the best and even though he doesn’t want to admit it, he’d like a shot at redemption.
Meet Red
Red was raised deep in the Ozark Mountains by deaf-mute parents away from the world. He’s a young guy who talks like a drunk four-year-old and will steal your heart and have you laughing out loud with his view of the world. Red was only supposed to stick around for the first book, but I had so many emails from people who fell in love with his character that he hangs around for all three.

I loved the characters. Lots of twists and turns. I was guessing right up until the end.
All three stories held my attention throughout, and that’s not always easy to do. Absolutely loved the characters. Red is definitely unique, Uncle Karl is weird and so on to others.
Hard to put down!
Enjoyed the book. As a retired State Law Enforcement Supervisor, I stayed ahead of most moves, but sincerely enjoyed these books.
When I first started reading this series I had a little trouble getting a feel for the characters. After a bit though, I was hooked. The characters are quirky and lovable.
So where do I begin? When I first began to read Birdsongs (book 1 of the Benny James Series) I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it or not. However, it wasn’t long into the first chapter that I got hooked.
I absolutely loved Red. He is such a unique character and the way he speaks is hilarious. All of the characters in these books have their own distinct personality and mannerisms.
Jason Deas has created a series of books that are not only enjoyable to read but have you guessing “who did it” right up to the end.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Enjoyed the characters. good story.
I couldn’t put these down. I hope to find more with Benny James as the star.
An absolutely amazing series. Benny, Red and all the characters are great. All the books are thrilling, suspenseful and exciting to read. I really enjoyed them
Really great characters and excellent story lines! Benny, Red, Vernon, and Rachel are a fantastic team!
Haven’t finished the last one so please don’t tell me the ending.
Beats getting hit across the belly with a dead fish
Well written, clean mystery with a little romance.
Not great, but a good read. Perfect for a long airplane ride. Enjoyable.
Enjoyed the characters and the interaction . It was easy to read and entertaining . Some of the people were not what they seemed !
Moved along, keeps your interest.likeable characters
enjoyed all the Benny & his friends novels.
I really enjoyed spending time with Benny and Red and the other characters in this three book set. The first mystery was quite good, the second a bit less so, and the third mystery leaves me unsatisfied (who actually did what and why). Still, i’d be happy to spend more time with Benny and the gang.
I enjoyed all three books in this series. I read everyday on my commute to & from work. So books that make my time fly by & i can hardly wait to get back to are the best. All three just had me in the very beginning and i hated to see the story end. The diversity in the peoples lives that filled Benny James life made me love him. I hope you read this series
Uniquely twisted mysteries with believable southern locations and southern characters. Great fun!
