KILLIAN
Love can destroy a man. Bring him to his knees. That’s why I never let anyone get too close.
Until Eden.

Feisty.

There is no way this was a debut novel!!
This book was such a surprise! I think I went in with no expectations but in hindsight even if I did, they would have been exceeded regardless!
I loved the slow burn between Killian and Eden because it was the perfect balance of lust and sweetness.
I was invested in this one from the very beginning.
Killian is this mysterious bar owner, struggling to keep ghosts from his past at bay and Eden stumbles in to his world at the perfect moment.
Weighted down with her own emotional baggage there was a real sense of fate when these two met.
I was instantly drawn into the push/pull relationship that these two formed. Both guarding their hearts behind solid walls of self preservation it as such a beautiful story reading along as Killian and eden knocked down the barriers between them throughout the pages.
There was a perfect amount of chemistry between the mains to keep things interesting and the storylines swirling around them just seemed to add to the anticipation as it grew the further you got into the story.
I really really enjoyed every minute of this book and couldn’t recommend it more!
What a beautiful debut novel!
Can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for us.
4.5 stars
I rented this book on KU…and I liked it so much I purchased it for my library. Eden moved to find herself. Her former best friend and her longtime boyfriend will be proud parents soon, and since she has spent the last few years living for him, she moves to a new city.
Killian is a former MMA fighter and part bar owner. He has a past he is trying not to remember as well.
Killian takes a chance on Eden and hires her to bartend and they build a friendship that turns into so much more.
Great chemistry between the characters, and a fresh story with a HEA. I’ll be watching for more!
I loved reading Beneath Your Beautiful by Emery Rose. This book sucked me in from the very beginning. This book was an emotional rollercoaster full of romance, love and just the right amount of sexiness.
It was about Eden and Killian. The two main characters were perfect for each other.
Eden was an strong minded optimistic young woman who knew what she wanted and could handle her own.
Killian had a past that caused him lots of mental anguish. He built up major walls up to protect himself from the emotional pain of life.
?When Eden goes to Trinity Bar looking for a job. Eden crosses pathes with Killian. They are both attracted each other from first sight. It takes them becoming friends before their relationship takes the next step. Eden teaches Killian about Hope, Possibilities and never giving up what he believes in. This is a must read. (Eden has this quote engraved on the back of the world key ring she gives Killian for his birthday.) “It’s a new day and there’s a world of possibilities.”
This is a first novel from this author and let me tell you, it was amazingly written. A perfect 5 star.
Eden find herself in need of a job and she convinces Killian to give her a chance at bartending. A thriving artist, she was betrayed but it doesn’t bring her down none the less. Killian is a former UFC fighter that wants to protect her even if she doesn’t need it. Killian is harbouring a lot of guilt over circumstances that he had no control over.
This is an enticing story that captivated me from the very first page read to the last one. These characters were perfectly created in depth that made me feel so much for them. A great storyline with some plot twists that kept this story addicting. Level of writing that shows maturity. Meaning it wasn’t full of drama, just the right amount that I love to read about. Bottomline is that this author shows a promising writing career, she’s got me hooked.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend giving this author a chance, trust me you won’t regret it. P.S. I want to read Connor’s story badly.
I read this book as part of the Beautiful Series Box Set release. After I finished, I did a little background research on Emery Rose and was stunned to find that this was her debut novel.
This book was perfectly and beautifully written. The plot is rich and well detailed. Primarily set in Brooklyn, Ms. Rose has brought to life her own little neighborhood world in the borough known for its neighborhood feel. The characters feel well developed and remain consistent throughout their story.
Beneath Your Beautiful is a mix of a few genres. Featuring Eden, a newly graduated student from UPenn who has moved to the city after walking in on her long time boyfriend cheating on her with a friend, Eden’s story within this book is a bit of a coming of age plot. After abruptly finding her high school boyfriend in bed with her best friend AND hearing that they are pregnant, Eden has a light shone on her life. She moves to Brooklyn to pull the pieces of herself that she’s let float back together. Realizing that she had just gone along with expectations of family and boyfriend she is determined to finally create her own self.
Killian has had a life that is starkly diverse to Eden’s upbringing. Killian has literally fought for everything in his life. From escaping a physically and verbally abusive father, to creating a successful MMA fighting career, to helping his younger brother fight against his addiction problem. Killian’s fighting career is ended abruptly when a childhood friend dies following an arranged fight. Killian carries a huge burden of guilt. Through the story we’ll discover that Killian has a huge heart and protective instincts that drive his actions.
Killian and Eden’s love story unfurls slowly but with heat. Some reviews reference a mechanical feel to the love scenes between the lovers. I can see and understand that thought. While the love scenes aren’t as richly detailed as other novels can be, nor are they written for a reader but as a necessity in the physical relationship of the characters, they didn’t feel stiff or forced. Again, keep in mind this is the author’s debut. It could be that this is her writing style, or it could be an area that she grows upon in her further works. Either way, the richly detailed and engrossing interactions of the characters doesn’t require or need a burning love affair.
Overall I felt that this book was well plotted and well written. It left me wanting to know what happens with several characters within this world immediately. The box set includes Connor’s story and Deacon’s stories. Connor’s I understand. He is Killian’s brother and Beneath Your Beautiful crescendoed with a epic scene that placed Connor and Eden in mortal danger. Deacon was a bit of a surprise to me. He’s a very minor character in Killian’s story. To see he was the third of the trio is intriguing. (I still need to read these books)
I am hoping that Sawyer and Zeke have their own stories. Sawyer is Eden’s younger brother and another haunted soul. Zeke is a fun loving trust fund baby with a brain. He hides behind a pretty face and a life is good attitude, but he’s more than that.
Other reviewers have noted that the end of the book seems disjointed to the bulk of the story. As I read the climax of Eden and Killian’s story the unfolding events that Connor and Eden live through make sense to me. Connor has a past and it needs light shined on it. This plot allowed that light to begin to crack in.
As a book I was thoroughly engrossed and entertained. It’s a fully developed world with rich characters. Knowing this was a debut work, that blew my mind. Ms. Rose has gained a new fan. This woman can write.
Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.
This was such an incredible debut! After reading last year’s Wilder Love and this year’s Sweet Chaos and falling head over heels in love with both stories I knew that I had to pick up this author’s backlist titles.
I am so in love with this author’s writing style. It really speaks to me. I feel so at home in this author’s prose. The narration was smooth and inviting. There were a few points in the middle of the story where the flow really slowed down. I wouldn’t say that I was completely bored but I definitely felt the change in the story’s pacing. I enjoyed the overall plot of the story. It was engaging and interesting. I felt that some of the conflict was glossed over at the end though. I really loved how the author was able to pull me into the story from the first page. I felt an instant connection with the story.
Both main characters in this story were complex and realistic. It was so easy to fall right into their orbits. Eden was my favorite kind of heroine. She was strong and sweet and always a ray of sunshine. When the story starts out her world is turned on its axis and she leaves home to find herself. Then her path crosses with Killian’s. He is a broody and a little closed off. He fits the tortured hero definition to a T. I really liked that both characters had a lot of depth. The reader can really feel the character growth for each of them as the story progresses. Especially for Killian. I felt that there was a missed opportunity with Eden’s character growth, at least in a certain area. Her closure in this area felt a little too neat. It had build-up but then kind of petered out. I really loved the friendships in this book. And Eden’s family was wonderful. The secondary characters in this book were just great.
Killian and Eden were so perfect together. I absolutely loved Killian’s protectiveness towards Eden, even when they first met. While they both had a lot going on in the background, they were able to open up to each other. I loved that Eden was able to bring out the best in Killian. They definitely had chemistry with one another and all their friends could see it from a mile away.
Overall, this was a compelling story with a wonderful cast of characters. This is a story that will keep you on your toes. I can’t wait to read Connor and Ava’s story in the next book in this series!
After reading this I learned this was the debut novel by Emery Rose. I did not learn about this series until a few years later and I am glad I did. She knows how to draw her readers in and have them on the edge of their seats. This book had me going through so many emotions from start to finish.
I always like when authors have a buildup before the characters get together. Although their relationship was nothing more than boss/employee at first, I could see Eden growing on Killian the more time they spent together. While he is known to be the knight in shining armor for all women you could tell it was different with her. Killian’s past was not pretty and up until Eden showed up, he never thought he would ever be happy. While Killian had been her protector at times, Eden was really the one to save him.
I was waiting for something to happen with Luke. He called a few times so when we did not see anything come from that I was a little surprised. I also wish we could have gotten a little deeper with Killian’s past, but I have a feeling we will get more in Conner’s book. I feel like I have so many unanswered questions but being this is a series I will have to keep reading to get the answers. Great job Emery Rose I cannot wait to see what happens next!
“A wish. I looked at her again and made my wish. I wanted every new day to include her. She was a world of possibility and it was a world I wanted to live in…”
This story broke my heart in less than thirty percent of the book, not because of any inconsequential drama between the characters, this is deeper than that; somehow I could relate to the part where you make a shell of your emotions, the part of life where you don’t know who you are or what you want. This book brought back so many emotions that when I finished reading, I could only think of how sometimes it is in ourselves to bring the light out. This story is just beautiful.
After being in a relationship for 5 years and getting cheated on, Eden decided to take control of her life and now she finds herself living in Brooklyn, looking for a new job, a new start where she can be herself.
Killian “The Kill” Vincent, champion of the Octagon once, now runs Trinity bar one of the hottest bars in Williamsburg. For years he has carried a weight that no one seems to lift from him, so he learned to live with it but the moment Killian saw Eden, he felt different, not himself; there’s something about Eden that makes him think of a better life with her; but there are so many secrets, so many insecurities he is not sure he is right for her.
I won’t say it enough, this story was amazing!!! And so, it deserves a special place in my forever in love list in Goodreads, this is the first story of three stand-alones that will capture your heart!!!
This is the first book in the Beautiful series, and the story of Killian, and Eden. When Eden starts over in a new city, with a new bar-tending job, she crosses path with Killian, the sexy bar owner, and sparks fly. This was an entertaining read, emotional, steamy, dramatic. and intense.
My Rating : 4.5 stars
This is my first time reading a book by Emery Rose. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I went into it with an open mind.
I loved the book. The story of Killian and Eden has to be one of my favorites that I have read in a long time. To me their story didn’t feel forced or rushed and escalated naturally. The wittiness of Eden was a perfect characteristic for her. I like how this relationship progressed. I feel like Killian and Eden where meant to be. The book was filled with fun witty moments as well as romantic moment through out. It also had that unexpected plot twist toward the end that came out of nowhere but I appreciate.
This is my first read from this author but it wont be the last. I cant wait to read the rest of this series and see where it goes.
I know for a fact that I cant wait to read Connor and Ava’s story.
This book is really well written. I didn’t realize it was at the time it released, the author’s debut novel. Its amazing. I love Eden and Killian. Their story is proof that you can find love in the most enexpected ways regardless of your past. I’m looking foward to reading the next book in the series.
Beneath Your Beautiful is my first book by Emery Rose and her debut novel. This book was recommended by a fellow reader-friend, and I’m so happy I gave it a chance.
Summary:
All Eden Madley was searching for was a fresh start in a new city. Nothing too complicated. She was finally following her dreams and the only thing she needed was a chance. She never expected to find that chance or love, in a bartending job. But the way the tattooed bar owner makes her feel is undeniable, and Eden isn’t the type of girl to ignore a challenge. He may be tall, dark, sexy, and brooding, but he also helps her feel light and free to be herself. She’s smart enough to know not to let that feeling go. Killian knows love can hurt, so he keeps his distance and emotions on lockdown. Until a bright ray of sunshine falls at his feet. Eden is determined, stubborn, and hard to resist. She wants to knock down his walls, uncover all of his secrets. But Killian’s secrets are far from happy, and still very much apart of his everyday life. He’ll have to convince her there’s nothing there, for both of their well-being. Except only with Eden has he ever felt anything resembling love, and he’s not entirely sure he’s selfless enough to let her go.

This book turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I’m not sure what I expected, but I quickly learned that it was a story that would grab and hold my attention. Considering the Romance genre is a vast and competitive world, writing something that will hold a reader’s attention from beginning to end becomes harder and harder. Ms. Rose got me with her characters. I liked Eden. First, because she’d had her heart and trust broken, and as a card-carrying member of the sisterhood, I wanted to support and comfort her. Eden was so much more, though. She was strong, funny, down to Earth, optimistic, caring, and compassionate. I loved how she treated her friends, and adored the way she stood up to and for Killian. Killian was amazing. He had the dark, broody thing down pat, but he was also protective, possessive, funny, and could be sweet. The demons that plagued him broke my heart, thinking of how he came to have them. Not only that, but they were practically eating him alive. As a couple, Killian and Eden’s relationship progressed naturally. There was undoubtedly a connection from the moment they met, which they both felt, but it wasn’t acted on immediately. They spent time together and let the initial spark build. In my opinion, this gave us a chance to get to know both characters better, and to really delve deep into the feelings each were having. They had some sweet and sexy intimate moments that I was happy didn’t take over the story. My only issue with the sex scenes were they seemed a tad rushed. I attribute this to the author still finding her groove in her writing. Overall, I fell deep into Killian and Eden’s world and friends. They were both complex characters in their own ways, and I enjoyed seeing their world unfold. The storyline flowed easily, and I had no trouble turning page after page when the anticipation of how it all would end kept me going. An exceptional secondary cast of characters also pulled me in. I’m looking forward to Connor and Ava’s tumultuous story. I really, really hope we get stories for Zeke (he’s so fun, and I want to see him settle down, maybe with Hailey), Sawyer (swoon, he needs a woman to help him feel at home again and heal his war-ravaged soul), and even Jack Madley would have a sweet second chance at love story. Emery Rose did an amazing job on her debut novel. It was full of emotion, and even had a couple of intense chapters toward the end that were a little unexpected, but not entirely out of left field. The writing was fast-paced, not rushing the story, but rather moving from scene to scene quickly. There were a few places in the beginning that, to me, were overly detailed, but not bothersome. There were also places that could have used some expansion including, Eden’s talk with Luke, some of the “dirty” talk, and at least the start of Killian’s healing process. That said, Beneath Your Beautiful was a great start to the series, and left open many possibilities for more to come.
For a debut novel, Emery Rose knocked it out of the park!
I was so pleasantly surprised with how much I loved Beneath Your Beautiful and this authors’ writing style. Killian and Eden are perfect together and witnessing their journey towards each other was incredible. Also being able to witness their struggles as individuals just enhanced the reading experience and made the book all the more realistic and not crazy out there like a lot of books in this genre can be. She also writes some very entertaining side characters!
The authors prose is beautiful and poignant, her stories are unique and make for amazing reads and her covers are absolutely stunning!
I can’t wait to read more from this author, hopefully soon and start Connors’ book – Beautiful Lies!
This was a great debut novel, I loved it! Emery gave us these amazing characters & a great story. I liked how Eden was tough and leaves her hometown for a fresh start. I also liked Killian who has walls up & he is trying to keep her from breaking them down. Their chemistry was off the charts.

I really love discovering new authors and I can’t believe this book is just the debut of this ‘newbie’ author. I can’t wait to read what she writes next. I definitely enjoyed reading the story of Killian and Eden! A great way to start a series 🙂
Eden moves to Brooklyn for a new start after her boyfriend cheated on her but it’s not easy to find a job when no one seems to want to hire her and give her a chance. But when she literally stumbles in the arms of a hot brooding man, who happens to be looking for a new bartender for his bar, she finds herself being hired for the job. There’s an instant attraction between them but she won’t get too close with anyone anymore, not after everything she’s been through. But there’s something about Killian that makes him different from anyone else and there’s something underneath his bad boy exterior that makes her want to try…
Killian used to be an MMA fighter but gave that all up after a tragic incident. Now he’s one of the owners of a bar where he’s spending all his time now. When he’s looking for a new bartender, Eden seems to fall into his lap, literally, and even though she’s got no real experience, he hires her on the spot. Killian doesn’t let anyone get too close anymore because of his past but there’s something different about Eden that makes him not able to stay away from her. His walls seems to be crumbling down but he still finds it hard to let her into his heart. All his secrets will be revealed in time and in the end maybe he’ll find more than he ever thought he would find…
I just found a new author to ONE click!!! what a beautiful love story!! I fell in love with killian and Eden! Two souls who needed a fresh start and aren’t looking for love, yet that’s exactly what they find in each other! Killian is your typical angry brooding man, whose had a hard life. Eden is a beautiful fun loving spirit whose trying to start over after having her heart smashed. Two complete opposites, yet so perfect for each other!! This story is so beautifully written, and will give you all the Feels!! I love the banter back and forth between Killian and Eden! you’ll laugh, cry, and fall in love!
I really loved this book and I can’t wait to see what this author has next!
